  1. That is weird. Lotta' brown and green in there. Looks like a modernized version of "Cleveland's Municipal Stadium". The stadium serves one purpose.........so make it look like the Buffalo Bills actually play there. I like the Flutie/Johnson mural on the side of the upper deck facing the big end zone walk way, though.
  2. I basically disagree with each point in this post. Yes, Allen has a strong arm but top QB's have LONG careers now that often extend far past their "athletic" peak. Ben Roethlisberger had a cannon for an arm 15 years ago..........now his arm strength is very poor for an NFL QB. Wind impacts at least half of the Bills home games every year. Whether it's discussed by the talking heads on tv when you are watching the game or not it's evident from the stands every week. We don't know if the environment for pro football consumption will be worse post-covid. In the 20th century, economic recessions often took many years to get out of.........but things move much more quickly now...........go back to 2008 and look how fast the economy bounced out of that........even after the government gave the farm away to the auto industry etc.. People will still feel that instinctive need for "communitas" in 20 years...........stadiums aren't going away.
  3. No my position on Addison was that they should cut him and saved the $8M and lost his phone number. My position on Butler was split. He didn't play well enough in 2020 to warrant the cap hit in 2021..........but he also played out of position to benefit the team so I understood bringing him back at a reduced salary. Not a fan of pay cuts but in Butler's case he is a young player entering a free agent walk year so he has plenty of reason to be motivated to put good football on tape even if he wasn't happy about having his deal reneged on. One of the things that Beane has been praised heavily for is signing players to deals that are easy to get out of if the player doesn't play well. The problem has been Beane still retaining them after they haven't played well. Murphy, Star and Kroft are all prime examples. Now Addison, Butler and Morse are up. Hopefully it turns out better this time. As for whether it's better to cut and re-sign later...........of course it is..........save A LOT more money and give the player the chance to test the market. Not saying he still wouldn't be unhappy about it but there is the issue of THE MONEY...........and otherwise that's just life in the NFL, a player can't ask for much more than to be able to test the market when the money is out there in February and March. And let's face it......Beane is 0-2 in pay cut scenarios so far so his batting average can't get much worse. Instead we have the same people on here who lauded the paycuts now theorizing that Addison and Butler could be cut at the end of camp...........when they might have a hard time finding jobs or one's that pay more than week-to-week league minimum amounts. Like that wouldn't be a double dickmove by an organization.
  4. Ed Oliver was both double teamed and playing a different position the majority of the time last season? Say what? The tales are getting taller with each passing week of the offseason.😂 He took "a few" snaps at 1 tech but once they decided on the Phillips/Butler rotation around mid-season those guys played the majority of the 1 tech snaps and that was where the majority of the doubles were going.
  5. I was just responding to you claiming that the players weren't dissatisfied with taking a pay cut. Now you are agreeing. Make up your mind. The fact that they were compelled to make that decision by the fact that the market for their services was probably very poor isn't irrelevant with regard to their happiness with the decision. So basically, you are off on a "they made their bed now they gotta' sleep in it" tangent that serves no purpose to the discussion. And I've been very complimentary of many things that McBeane have done. The whole truth is never the most popular position on a fanatic site so the timing is irrelevant. You, on the other hand, showed your complete lack of any faith in the McDermott hiring by dropping your 24 year season tickets in frustration/anger with the organization that you are supposed to be rooting for and supporting. You were fed up and the hiring of McDermott and his implementation of "the process" weren't changing your mind. You were wrong. You made a mistake posting your thoughts/reasoning regarding quitting on your season tix on here........now we all know.........you are the epitome of a non-Billiever and now you want back on the bandwagon. Quitters never win @eball. 😞
  6. McD did say that Star had A LOT of work to do in the last of the 18 months that he has had to prepare for this training camp...........that wasn't exactly a ringing endorsement. Butler played a lot of 1 tech as well. He is more of a Jordan Phillips-type penetrator by preference but he was plenty serviceable as a space eater in the second half of last season.
  7. I think it's reasonable to expect that they were dissatisfied with having to take a pay cut. What the open market would pay is not the only consideration.........it might even be the last and least important one in their opinion. Their opinion of their effort on the field and their opinion of their own production doing what they were asked to do(in Butler's case, play a different position) factor in..........as does the idea that they signed a deal and it is being reneged upon by the people who signed you to it. Would you like it if I cut your social security check by 20% because you aren't being a good consumer and buying NFL season tickets and plane tickets and hotel accommodations anymore? I think not! That wouldn't be fair. It doesn't take in all the extra beverages imbibed to keep you hydrated when you are crying those tears of regret. Only you can make you happy @eball! Beane needs to remember that when he's tryna cut people's pay...........they don't like it........it's not a great way to to motivate, really.
  8. I think Josh is a bit too much of "the guy who has it all" right now to be a quick go-to for advertisers. He is actually an "every man" kinda' dude but until the nation sees that it's kinda' like rooting for Superman. Right now advertisers are really looking for traits that are more relatable..........like Aaron Rodgers and his bad facial hair looking like every bad Detroit Lions QB from the 1980's..........or Patrick Mahomes being multi-racial and quirky........or Baker Mayfield being undersized and brash. Mr. Perfect Tom Brady never really became a huge endorsement guy...........I think Allen will get there but the nation needs to get to know him better and that's probably going to require getting their attention first........probably by beating guys like Rodgers and Mahomes.
  9. I don't expect a trophy-husband like you to be smart at arithmetic so I will forgive you for being wrong about this. @Royale with Cheese though.........he has so many withholdings on his weekly paycheck to dispute that I would expect that his math would be sharper than this by now. What gives RwC? The math is not that difficult...........the dead money is a sunk cost..........if you can cut a player and create more cap space than adding an equal or better player will cost........then it's a net positive wrt to cap space. Beane knows this.......he just seems to want to try to make more people happy than he realistically can.
  10. Cutting John Brown saved the team $8M in cap room..........they replaced him with Emmanuel Sanders with a total cap hit of $6M(though 1.3 of that is pushed into 2022)............so if you think cutting John Brown and replacing him with Sanders didn't "reduce the cap hit one microbe" then you are just embarrassingly bad at basic arithmetic. 😆
  11. Not a fan of the pay cuts. Of course it's not a given that they will all turn out as badly as they have in the recent past for Beane but it's not a good plan, IMO. Some players are realistic about their situation.........but being highly competitive people by nature to reach the NFL.......you can assume that many are not. I would have been fine with Morse being released and going with Feliciano and Bates as the center options. Prior to the switch to regularly running outside zone I thought Feliciano had clearly been the better center when given the opportunity and when you factor in the concussion issues for Morse I thought he might be on his way out in 2021. Morse is a good fit in outside zone but I think Feliciano gives them more scheme versatility if they decide to run more of the power run game that they did in 2019 when Singletary averaged over 5 yards per carry.
  12. Obviously. But if you save $6M cutting a player and can then re-sign him for $2M you are ($6M-$2M) $4M to the good. People get confused about the importance of dead money.........but that's a sunk cost either way. Here is a real life example: Cutting John Brown saved the Bills $8M..........he then signed with the Raiders for 1 year @ $3.75M. Had the Bills signed him back for that amount they would have saved $4.25M by releasing him and re-signing him. If a young, versatile DL like Efin'A Obada and a former second round pick coming off 16 starts like Forest Lamp signed one year deals with Buffalo for just $2M and $1M , respectively then the market for Addison and Butler coming off down years was no more than that. But by just giving them all pay cuts Beane has both grossly overpaid them versus their market value.........and left them dissatisfied with management.
  13. Or.......perhaps a young DL will be traded to open up space for Addison or Lotulelei. Like the trading of Wyatt Teller to retain roster space for Spencer Long etc..
  14. You are incorrect. Once you cut a player with enough service time to not be subject to waivers they are a free agent.........meaning free to sign with ANY team. There are limitations on HOW MUCH you can cut a player's pay though........even if they were agreeable to more.........that figure used to be 20%. It's not common and obviously the Bills should have cut both Incognito and Lotulelei rather than go the pay-cut and guaranteed salary route.................but your assertion above is incorrect.
  15. I merely listed Beane's past history with pay cuts. 1 player manipulated the team into releasing him post pay cut. 1 player opted out of the season post pay cut. 0-2 Worth noting that neither Addison, Butler or Lotulelei were at ANY of the non-mandatory offseason team activities.........despite all seeming to be at career crossroads and in a tough FA market, very lucky to be getting paid what they are scheduled to receive. Pay cuts simply don't make people happy about their situation..........even if their situation is still pretty good..........but since some people work for businesses for free I understand why THOSE people might not understand this concept.
  16. I'm in favor of building a dome. I much prefer being outside since we spend about 8 hours tailgating outside for each game and having to dress down to go in and re-assemble to resume post-game would be a hassle. But the reality is that the quality of football play is more consistent and the execution is better in perfect playing conditions indoors.......and we are there to watch teams play good football. And, of course, even big fans like @Stank_Nasty have for years skipped late season games because of the weather. Even when the team was a regular playoff contender in the 90's it was a glaring issue. The season ticket base will be higher with a dome and ex-pat Bills fans would travel from farther away if they weren't ascared of the uncertain WNY weather like @eball. IMO the NFL will continue to push it's season deeper toward the end of February as they eventually go to an 18 game regular season schedule and likely add another bye week or two in the future to appease wear-and-tear concerns. February is a black hole for meaningful sports broadcasts......it should, can and will happen. Which means the Bills could conceivably be playing multiple regular season games in January and possibly home playoff games in February going forward. Not good if the team is winning.........imagine 4-5 games after Thanksgiving if they are not.
  17. How was cutting Incognito's pay going to help resolve his addiction problem? You don't cut an addiction-addled employee's pay to get them to seek help...........you make them go into counseling or you outright release them..........that whole line of reasoning for cutting Incognito's pay never made any sense whatsoever. And Star had no financial incentive to take any risk with covid..........Beane guaranteed his salary.........so yes there is obviously literal evidence by definition. And since: 1) Very few players actually opted out 2) Similar players his age struggle to get work at all 3) His paycut indicated that the team was preparing to move on without him after 2020 Well let's just say that the preponderance of evidence would suggest that yes, he likely did opt out because his salary was guaranteed and he didn't have much to gain for taking the risk that other players did. Star re-defined the term "stay-at-home DT" in 2020.
  18. The guy who needs to stop agreeing to pay cuts is Beane. Incognito and Star should have taught him enough lessons about how players respond to pay cuts. You are better off cutting them outright, letting them explore the market and then gratefully accepting a greatly reduced salary with you later if they can't find a job. In the cases of the aforementioned AND Addison and Butler the only one who might have gotten the same kind of money on the open market was the non-ex-Panther Incognito.
  19. You thought Addison and Butler actually WANTED to take pay cuts? They were coming off years where they were most likely going to get much less than their reduced salary in an open market............they didn't do it to help the team. This "don't be aggressive in personnel decisions because players will collectively hold it against you" nonsense has been around since the beginning of the drought. Players look out for #1 when it comes to contracts. Less money for that guy that didn't produce is potentially more money for them.
  20. The 2015 and 2016 Bills teams had A LOT of talent. They didn't have a franchise QB.........but that's about all they didn't have on either side of the ball..........they were massive underachievers and McCoy did his share to make that so........especially in 2015 when his head wasn't into being a Buffalo Bill. Who could forget him falling flat on his face against his nemesis Chip Kelly in a game the Bills should absolutely have won. There was no excuse for that team missing the playoffs either season. The 2017 offense was diminished by trading Watkins and not retaining Woods.........but McCoy wasn't raising the level of the offense.........their offense went from one of the better ones in the league to one of the very worst. They won in spite of the offense.
  21. Yes, 2010-2013 Shady was tremendous.......but it's not even a partially RB driven league.........teams that win SB's now do it with inexpensive RB-by-committee approaches. No matter how good your RB is he is not going to average near 8 yards per attempt that you can expect from a QB like Josh Allen. When Shady's decline started in 2014 the Eagles fed him the ball like crazy on the ground and in the air.........and he ended up leading the NFL in LEAST yards per touch(6.3). The diminished Buffalo version of McCoy struggled in outside zone.........which is what Daboll wants to run...........it re-awoke Shady's bad habit of 2014/2015 of trying outrun the defense to the edge in a league where LB's were getting smaller and faster. It absolutely, positively is a passing league and a strong focus on RB play isn't the way to get it done.
  22. Some of the angles people take......."I didn't know this was a political board" when they are rapid to get political...........or my new personal favorite is the ginned up "half of my family is in medicine".
  23. @GunnerBill approves the first half of this message
  24. Oh hell.......you can find similar runs from Mike Gillislee and Karlos Williams in that offense. That offense was VERY RB friendly........like the current Baltimore offense. People remember some of Karlos big runs but also MG had runs of 44, 50 and 60 in 2015 and 2016. McCoy left hundred of yards on the field in his first season in Buffalo by refusing to follow the dance steps of Roman's inside zone rushing attack..........he admitted as much and bought into the gameplan in 2016.....and even though he was physically diminished from the 300 carry guy he had been in Philly by that point he had a GREAT season..........but so did whoever filled in for him. McCoy was mostly a celebrity in Buffalo. They got some nice performances out of him and once he got his act together he was a solid teammate but Roman's offense was going to produce big time anyway and once McDermott got there McCoy was washed up. That was ultimately an astonishing amount of money to waste on a RB to get one excellent season out of 4.
  25. Quick, give this guy a $40M deal
