  1. There is no more reason to think Wanny took over the defense than there is to think that as asst. head coach he had no involvement in it. Aren't Gailey and Edwards buddies from before the Bills? If so, that might be way Gailey didn't want to can him. Or if he had an escape clause in his contract.
  2. These kinds of thoughts make me smile. Chan, the players, and the front office of the Bills would understand Stache leaving for a better opportunity as they would probably do the same thing in his place. It is business, not personal, and they all understand that. But the funny part is what I bolded. The Stache is going to turn down a promotion because it is the most important thing to have the respect of the Bills fanbase What's a couple million dollars more or less as long as you have the Bills fans respect I have no idea if Stache will be the DC of the Bills next season or not, but thanks for the chuckle
  3. Unless someone here knows the detailed terms of the staches contract, stating that he can or cannot leave to take another job is pointless.
  4. Most people on this forum I would expect to be against a dome. But I think the majority of the people that go to games would prefer a closed roof during the winter at least. I think a dome would also help sell tickets to the late season games that always, even in the 90's when the team was good, had trouble selling out. Personally, I would prefer not to be in the rain and snow during any sporting event.
  5. Hmmm. Perhaps. But at least they did make it to the big games.
  6. Because it IS different. If my Doctor is a drug addict my life is at risk. If he beats his wife he probably doesn't value life very much and that also puts my life at risk. If, however, my Doctor made it rain at a strip club it certainly would not make me drop him if he was a good Doctor. I get your point. You seem to want to put people on a pedestal and expect whatever your definition of good behavior is from them in all aspects of their lives. I disagree and generally only care if it directly affects their performance. I do admit that I would be more inclined to scrutinize my Doctors behavior more because of the impact (s)he has on my health. But I literally could not care less what any player on a sports team that I only follow as a hobby does in his private life, as long as it does not affect his performance. In short (and hopefully in conclusion ) we disagree on the role of professional athletes in society in general. You think they should be held to a higher standard and I cannot think of one reason why they should. At the end of the day, they simply play a game.
  7. There you go. I knew someone could sum it up in one concise statement
  8. Sports figures are not, and never were, heroic. They play a game for a living, period. People, mainly kids I would think, might look up to them for various reasons. But they are not heros. You aren't really equating a Doctor, who holds the life of you and your family in his hands, to a professional athlete are you? You really don't see those two professions as holding the same importance in society, do you? If you do then that is incredibly sad.
  9. Exactly. And there is no harm in kicking the tires just so you are prepared in case someone does drop into your lap.
  10. #9 in completion % as you say, but also #23 in yards per attempt. In this case the low yards per attempt explains the high completion percentage. Stats are wonderful things, but you have to take them all into account. Not just the ones that look good. The QB rating is not perfect, but to say Fitz is better than his rating because of a couple cherry picked stats does not make sense either. YMMV.
  11. I never understood why fans of a team care about what the teams players do off the field. Makes no sense to me. I don't know the players or interact with them directly in any way. These guys run around and hit each other for a living. Why would anyone hold them up to an inflated standard? So getting smoked by the cowboys if their roster was filled with Mother Teresa types would have removed your pain? Not mine. Weird, but to each his/her own. OJ is in prison now. Does that change your opinion of him as a Bill?
  12. He is actually neither.
  13. Particularly football players in my opinion. A million dollars a game base salary for one player is insanity.
  14. It's all about production to me. The way you stated your question, "Assuming production is equal no matter the mentality.", I would take the player with character of course. Who wouldn't? But if the choice is a player with "character" with a production of say 75% and a player who lacks character with a production of 90%, I take the 90% production every time. This is just football after all. If the topic were dating my daughter, it's character all the way.
  15. None. I suspect the "kids day" game will be against the Steelers.
  16. A 4? Is that even possible? Only answering the multiple choice and selecting the first answer every time would almost certainly give you a score higher than 4 I would think.
  17. Oh there is no way at this point in his career that Fitz is going to change his throwing motion that severely. I think Gailey knows Fitz's deep ball limitations and figures he (Gailey) can work within that constraint. I'm sure Gailey loves all the other things Fitz brings to the table, particularly his toughness. And why wouldn't he?
  18. And yet they made that four loco stuff illegal. Go figure.
  19. and smoke some cigs and drink that red bull!
  20. I agree that in the current NFL it is unlikely in the extreme that a player would be one of the top players and sit in bars all night. My point is that I do not care how a player gets himself ready for game day, as long as he is ready. All of the other stuff that writers like to write about and forum dwellers like to post about during the off season like good locker room guy, good leader, hard worker, student of the game and so on doesn't amount to, in my opinion, squat. That's all. I have never coached, and I have never played football at anything above a high school level (and only did that for 2 years). But I have played hockey at a reasonably high level, albeit many moons ago. My experience is you count on your teammates on the ice above all else. It simply didn't matter how they got themselves ready to play, as long as they did and could play at a high level. "Cancer" meaning someone who constantly blames others publicly and negative things like that, yes a team is far better off without them obviously. But I just never found any of the "intangible rah-rah" stuff to matter much except to sports writers trying to fill a column. Again, just my opinion and as eball says I "and idiot"
  21. No you phrased it right and my example was poor. Hard worker, film junkie, coach on the field, locker room leader, I could not possibly care less about. How effective he is at his job on the field is the one and only thing that matters to me. How he gets himself to the point where he is the best at his job on the field is his business. He can watch film and work out endlessly, or he can sit in a strip club pounding beers. It matters not. The only thing that matters is what he does on the field game day.
  22. Ok so whats the over/under on china availability of these Nike jerseys?
  23. Ahhh my favorite topic, intangibles Not only am I not a big believer in intangibles, I'm not even a small believer in them. For example, I don't care what a player does in his off time. Be it watching old superbowl reruns, going to strip clubs, or watching old superbowl reruns in a strip club. I also don't care if he rants and raves and goes nuts in a locker room, or quietly goes about his business. The one, and ONLY, thing I care about is how he performs on the field every game. There are no absolutes when it comes to predicting how players will perform in the NFL (otherwise we would all be GMs ), but I believe comparisons between players like they do at the combine is considerably more meaningful than comparing their off field hobbies and habits. But YMMV.
