  1. Given soccers popularity in the rest of the world, and its popularity among kids (at least in my area), it is pretty amazing to me that it hasn't already. Its pretty interesting to go to a kids soccer game and talk to some of the dads. In the beginning of the season they claim a dislike for the sport, and at the same time admit to not even understanding the rules. They have been to trained to believe "football good, soccer bad". Then by the end of the season after they have watched some, and took the time to learn the game and the rules, they reluctantly admit starting to like the game. That its possible that "football good, soccer good too" is also a possibility.
  2. Hmmm. What's better, one knee completely healthy and the other banged up twice. Or each knee banged up once. Not sure.
  3. I agree with eball here. There is no reason for national media to pick the Bills on the road in this game. That being said, I'm starting to think I'm suffering from a koolaide overdose or something reading the threads here this week. For whatever reason, based on my limited watching of the Stillers the past few weeks, I will be very disappointed if the Bills don't pick up the W this Sunday.
  4. Having seen how some areas, particularly in the south like Texas, treat high school football I think that it will take more than a few years. But yeah, this brain injury snowball is just starting to gain momentum.
  5. The season started 10 weeks ago with, I believe, nearly everyone healthy. Every team has injuries. Successful teams overcome them.
  6. Yeah I hear ya. But I'm talking about some of the play calls, challenges, and general clock management for all the games so far. Remove Pettine from the scoring and I have a hard time grading the rest out at a B.
  7. I think the people in attendance Sunday did that on their own.
  8. If I am the "he" then I don't care where they play the games, studio or otherwise. My enjoyment level is considerably higher when I can watch at home and at the time of my choosing. That's just my personal preference. Kirby and I were just discussing the economics of it is all.
  9. Really? I know for a fact that some places like immigration and customs don't allow cameras. I figured polling places would be afraid of people zooming in on other peoples ballots, or taking pictures of the sign in sheets, or other such things and ban them as well. Guess you really can learn something new every day.
  10. So your point is if you want to go by yourself (or at least only buy one ticket) and sit in a seat with a view such that you can't see half of the game you can do it for cheap and that negates price concerns? I strongly disagree. I suppose I could go to a movie theater alone and split the cost of a ticket with someone and only watch half the movie. Doesn't mean I'd ever want to do it. FWIW I personally don't think $500 for a season ticket is a bad deal. My reasons for not wanting to go to games are not (or at least not entirely) monetarily based. But I have no problems agreeing to disagree.
  11. 14 pages about whether or not to release the only completely healthy QB on the roster and who happens to know the system. When the other 2 QBs may or may not be able to play this weekend. Brilliant.
  12. The Steelers are preparing for Manuel. If they get Lewis instead, no big deal as Lewis is a less athletically gifted version of Manuel. If Tuel starts then the Stillers DC smiles and loves life. What's the mystery here. There is no genius ploy by Marrone. This sounds like all the "mega-mind" nonsense posts about Gailey last season.
  13. I agree with you. It is understandable for the casual football fan, but inexcusable for someone doing that for a living.
  14. Yeah a pretty fair assessment I'd say. Giving coaching a B overall might be a bit high in my opinion. But I can see where one could think Pettine can pull the overall up to a B I guess.
  15. He also took the trouble to pull out and use a camera. Which I think is frowned upon in a polling place
  16. About 1/3 of the positions on my ballot were uncontested. Certainly no harm in a write-in there. I wonder if Marrones Dog (who I wrote in) won the Sheriffs race?
  17. I watched the Stillers a bit this past weekend as well as a week or two ago. They look bad .... I mean REALLY bad. Particularly defensively. Being in Pitt, and it being Buffalo coming in at 3-6, I'm sure the Stillers and their fans will be looking to add a W to their terrible season. But honestly, I will be extremely disappointed in this Bills team if they don't come out of there with a win. That being said, the Steelers are favored by 3.5 (basically home field advantage) and 6 of 8 CBS pundits pick the Steelers with as well as without the spread
  18. Yeah if you don't want to see the game, and are single or leave the family home. . This year Bills ticket prices range from $225 to $720 in regular seating areas and from $1278 to $2790 in club seat areas. So if you take the average of just the regular seats, that's $472.50 per seat. There are 5 members in my family that I prefer watching games with, so that makes my cost $2362.50. Call it $100 for parking and ignore incidentals like gas (I live in Rochester) and food/drink I am at $2462.50. Could I budget for that, sure. But when I analyze the situation, I can't for the life of me come up with many reasons why I would. And I can always find good uses for that kind of money elsewhere. The numbers don't look so bad when you take the cheapest ticket and assume you are only buying one. Not everyone is in that situation.
  19. ???? If you sit anywhere near either endzone in the lower bowl you end up watching half the game on the scoreboard. I call that a bad seat. YMMV
  20. Not for me. They could give me seasons and I would rarely go (excluding club seats). I want to be able to see the game. Being comfortable and not having to deal with traffic and a-holes is also a huge plus. But you also have to remember that some absolutely LOVE the atmosphere, the tailgating, and the feeling that they are somehow helping their team as the 12th man by screaming themselves hoarse and beating on those cold aluminum benches. They can always DVR the game and see what really happens later And I have to admit that since I started recording the games and watching commercial free, I enjoy the games a LOT more. However it does make watching any tackle football game live painful. Sabres games are a different situation for me. There are only a few areas in FNC arena where you don't get a decent view of the entire game and the TV timeouts are not overboard..
  21. I see this as an indictment of the American education system.
  22. Hmmm I can vote tonight as well. Perhaps Coach Marrones Dog should get a vote.
  23. My take from lots of threads here, not fixed in general, it's just the Bills get screwed constantly and the league conspires against them every game..
  24. "Best 3-6 team on the planet" ranks right up there with "morale victory" and "intangibles" with me ... which is not worth a ****.
  25. Yeah I made the mistake of taking my then 9 year old son to a Sabres/Habs game a few years ago. Several drunk obnoxious Habs fans near us. Plus on the way out we were going to use the bathroom before the drive home when my son asked what that was all over the ground at the entrance to the bathroom. I had to answer puke, and we went to find another bathroom. I avoid Leafs and Habs games in Buffalo, I haven't seen issues with any other teams fans.
