By giving up next years 1st and 4th round picks he greatly reduces his chances of trading for one, even if one did come on the market. That means the Bills more than likely would have to get one in FA, which is even more rare. Or wait for 2016 and try again. Whaley gambled on his read of Manuel. We should see if his gamble paid off this season.

That's exactly the difference that a lot of people don't quite grasp and what makes this move ballsy, and very risky. If Manuel turns it around this season and becomes a viable NFL QB then Whaley comes off as a genius. If not, he is a moron. Let's hope for genius.

Respectfully disagree. Jones is one of the 32 owners of a multibillion dollar enterprise. All 32 of them know far more, and have people in their employ who also know far more, than any of us could ever hope to from reading websites, blogs, fan boards, links to lease documents, and journalist musings. It's just the nature of business.

If you really think we as Bills fans know more than one of the existing owners you are kidding yourself. A ton? Probably one. The only one that would matter anyway, from Erie County. You really think the majority of the US congress is going to stand with Senator Chuck if he decides to grandstand and propose such a thing? You think the representatives from the other 31 NFL cities and wherever the team wants to move (assuming it is in the US) are going to fall on their swords for Senator Chuck and Buffalo NY? One thing you can count on with politicians, they will cover their wrinkled old asses every time.

All that means is that the people writing these articles don't know any more than the rest of us. Jerrah and the other owners on the other hand could very well have some information. As it was from the time of Mr. Wilson's passing ... we will know when we know.

Huh, more tax breaks for the rich ... awesome. And for a slightly different spin ... new ownership cannot borrow half of the purchase price so their debt payment won't be as extreme as the OP suggested. So now if you assume a 30% tax rate for the owners, you get roughly $20 million in tax savings per year. And over 15 years that amounts to $300 million. That puts a big dent in the lease buyout, but it is spread out over a long period of time. Of course my math can be way off seeing as how I can be a moron as well.

i completely understand it. And I would probably do the same in his position. But what it comes down to is this, football (or any sport for that matter) has no inherent value at all. It is simply entertainment. And in the case of the the NFL in the US, an amazingly profitable form of entertainment. Limiting press access, while undoubtedly a good thing regarding football itself, would seem counterproductive when considering press coverage equals free advertising.

None of them except for the lease, in my opinion, will factor into the Bills relocating or not. They are simply not important.

Number one makes it very inconvenient (and probably expensive) to move, at least during the period of the lease. The other 10 reasons listed really amount to nothing IMO. Probably could have added 12) Mary Wilson's desire to keep the team in Buffalo if at all possible.

I can't imagine anyone in law enforcement would do that. However it would not surprise me if the lawmakers, who routinely receive bribes from lobbies, acted this way.

100% agree. If I were a projected 1st round pick I'd hire the biggest prick of an agent I could find. It only makes sense. They handle the biz and I handle the football.

Well, the Bills traded next years first and fourth round picks to move up this year and get Watkins. By definition that is "mortgaging the future".It may end up being a really good move, a really bad move, or something in between. That remains to be seen of course. But mortgaging the future is a fact.

While generally correct, they actually will in extreme circumstances. Google "Brompton Cocktail". But people generally do not know this unless they are unfortunate enough to know someone who needed it. Pharmacies (at least some) keep some extraordinary pure cocaine on hand for such things.

Each employer has the right to set the standards for their employees. My employer (in NY but not anything government) has a zero tolerance for any drugs including alcohol with the exception of cigs (in designated outdoor areas). I imagine employers in Colorado can still forbid weed even though it is legal there just like mine forbids alcohol even though it is legal. The NFL is their employer so they can determine what they will and will not allow. And also, Colorado has a NFL team and weed is legal even for recreation there. So for the Broncos at least it isn't a question of being above the law.

And besides, he isn't a Bill so suspend away!

I'll go you one better than that. There is no "see if Manuel is the guy". They gave up next years first to acquire Manuel as close to a sure-thing star weapon as there was in this draft. There is no "see". Whaley is all in on Manuel.

How it affects people DOES speak to what's best for the Bills franchise. Making it easier for more people to get there in a shorter period of time, for example, would typically mean the potential for ticket sales to go up.
