Russ Brandon will be employed by an NFL team for the next 30 years IMO. He is a great great marketing guy that knows how to mint money for an owner. Owners do not overlook performers in marketing, it would not surprise me if the reason Russ got the GM gig was so RW could be sure of retaining him. John Guy, may be driving a yellow cab next year though.

He was definately hired as an interim coach and was close to being replaced several times during the first few months of his tenure, to the point where he said "make me permanent or I am leaving". I remember it well.

Remember how the Sabres found Lindy Ruff? He was an assistant promoted as a temporary thing, then was on the bubble and threatened with replacement several times, then became the best coach the sabres have had since Scotty Bowman. You can never tell, maybe Fewell has the stuff to be good.

By nnext year this OL woll have a year experience and another training camp under their belt. Assuming that at least Wood and Levitre and one other guy (Bell, Meredith, or Handgartner) continue to be the starters, I think they will be much much improved. Learning by fire isnt great whilst is happening, but the results can be beneficial very long term, IMO, for this group. No more DJ to hamper their development, either, the improvement may be quicker thatn expected.

Russ may not be all that as a football GM, but as a marketing GM you would be hard pressed to find better. Should he ever leave the Bills, 100% a big market team would gobble him up. Before you could blink. Great marketing mind.
