Bobby April STILL looking for work
Delete This Account replied to Trent is Unstoppable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
as upset as Bobby was that he didn't get the interim head coach's job, am told he was very professional in dealing with Perry and keeping the team first. kudos on that front. jw -

Bobby April STILL looking for work
Delete This Account replied to Trent is Unstoppable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i know what Marty's said on his radio show, but he told Adam Benigni and I a week ago that he'll never say no until he must, thus not entirely closing that door. and yet, with all due respect, Marty doesn't have a contract with the bills to opt out of, as was the case with Bobby. as for establishing some kind of post ban, well, i'm against it, because otherwise, how else can we determine who the early crop of jokers might be. jw -
Bobby April STILL looking for work

for someone with a tag "Trent is Unstoppable," i can appreciate how your comprehension skills might be somehow skewed. first of all, Trent Edwards, Trent Green, Trent Dilfer have proven very stoppable for some time, even though one of them did happen to win a Super Bowl. but none will ever be confused with QBs named Peyton, John, Jim or Tom for that matter. secondly, as it's been pointed out, Bobby April took the opportunity to opt out of the final two years of his contract because he decided it was, as he put it, "time to move on." that, as far as the English language goes, can also be interpreted as Bobby meaning, "I don't want to come back," or "See ya," or "Bye." in any case, Bobby April doesn't want to come back and is looking for work with another team, quality or not. as for the hatred for Bobby April in WNY, that seems to be relatively missing. there are no and have not been any billboards going up demanding the Bills fire April, or any threads on this board that i've come accross demanding that he never come back again. but, uh, thanks? jw -

RUMOR: Jim Kelly spoke w/Bill Cowher?

if anyone manages to interview Cowher in the next few weeks, i don't think asking about the billboard is going to be near the top of the list of questions asked. jw -
RUMOR: Jim Kelly spoke w/Bill Cowher?

Mr. Wilson never said $10 million. that number was put out by Shefter during the Shanahan discussions. was that what the Bills were offering, or a number that Shanahan wanted. might never know. i don't foresee anyone getting a share of the franchise, or even offered one, as that topic was broached earlier. also note, Mr. Wilson said he wanted someone who wanted to come to Buffalo. i think that was in reference to both Shanahan and Cowher. jw -

dunno. my guess, question asked the previous week, and answered: Cowher saying he's not going to discuss search. it does put CBS in awkward position. jw -

RUMOR: Jim Kelly spoke w/Bill Cowher?
Delete This Account replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
there are many who have agendas, though i don't know if Mr. Wilson is one, though i'm sure he was expecting questions about the coaching search and Cowher, when he returned my call. as has been the case before, Mr. Wilson is willing to answer questions as best as he can (so long as they don't deal with contracts). and by as best, i mean, by him providing the most information he can to sensitive issues, such as coaching searches, Jauron's status in Dec. 2008, when i got him, Toronto. he's in a unique position, as owner, to be able to speak his mind without agenda. and he's the one Russ Brandon usually refers to as the person i need to talk to about issues regarding the bills. Mr. Wilson runs the show. they're not counterproductive if Bill Cowher has snubbed the bills or ruled them out. they went after the splashy names because that was Mr. Wilson's initial intention. thing is, it takes two to tango. shanahan went to Washington, and who knows where Cowher will end up. unlikely here. jw -
no problem, and apology accepted. wedgie, though, is too good of a word to pass up in any situation. as for news, i wrote something on another post noting how highly respected Leslie Frazier is in NFL circles. i do think Brian Schottenheimer has a shot, my only question is his age. that said, Nix knows him. jw

right, only because you missed that day still recovering from the wedgie. jw

RUMOR: Jim Kelly spoke w/Bill Cowher?
Delete This Account replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
based on what Mr. Wilson had to say last week, i don't foresee Cowher to be in the picture. to me, the telling comment was Mr. Wilson saying, "We don't need a splashy name," and adding, "we want someone who wants to come to Buffalo." and the fact that Mr. Wilson acknowledged they had spoken to Cowher, leads me to believe that that's over and done with. ... as for choosing Frazier over Cowher, i'd think it wouldn't happen. as for all the Frazier bashers on this board, everything i've heard about the guy has been high praise. and this isn't from Bills people. it's from people that have followed Frazier up through the ranks and not necessarily coached with him or played under him. he's been groomed by Dungy to be a head coach one day. and it would be realistic to believe that having the Dungy stamp of approval would help in assembling a capable staff. BSchottenheimer could be a wild card in this bunch. bills, though, are high on Frazier. jw jw -

i was there. Jim said he "might" pick up the phone to talk to Cowher. when asked again if he intends to, Jim reiterated that he might. jw -

no problem. just a pet peeve of mine, just as i'm sure it would be for anyone else's publication. and technically, actually in reality, you got the story from The AP (off ESPN). .... again, it's a pet peeve, because all reporters, no matter who they represent, should get the credit, and in this case it should go to Ron Blum. jw -

Bands worse than Nickelback?
Delete This Account replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in Off the Wall Archives
well, not entirely, though i won't lay claim to saying Canada has produced a large amount of great musical artists -- though how we got the U.S. to adopt celine dion might say more about America than the Great White North that said, aside from Neil, there are a few notables that require mention: Joni Mitchell, Robbie Robertson and The Tragically Hip, a band that's flown under the radar, and has produced some compelling music that, in my opinion, stands up as well as some of the early U2 and REM stuff. that said, Canada has also produced loverboy, so take it for what it's worth. (and yes, i'm not including Rush on either side of the list, because, well, they were ok while i was growing up and then not so much.) jw -
