These are total garbage links. No where in the Bryant article does it even remotely name Buffalo. Likewise in the Pierce piece.

Nice Deadpool pic...

Wow, out of all of the gaping holes in the Bills roster you pick the kicker?!!? I mean, if anything the Bills HAVE done good over the past decade is have a league leader in special teams. Moorman and Lindell are probably the most consistent, most reliable, and best unit the Bills have fielded this decade.

I like Sullivan's article today calling on the Bills to go after the Steelers NT Casey Hampton. We have Modrak, Gailey, and Whaley in our program, and Whaley is familiar with Hampton. I'm not sure what Wilfork will be going for, but Hampton might be a nice #1 option for a team like the Bills. Also, he reports that Hampton is not too sure if the Steelers want him back enough to get into a bidding war, and word out of New England is that Wilfork will not be lost easily. Banta-Cain, I probably would not bother with. Let's remember that last year he was cut from the team, cleared waivers (as he said he would not play anywhere else), and then resigned with the Patriots. He looks good every year against us, but let's consider who he is playing against on the offensive line. Chambers makes everyone he lines up against look like an All-Pro. Regardless, this should make for an exciting offseason. Schobel is up in the air. Kelsay and his $6 million salary might be gone. Parrish makes $3 million. Trading or moving a couple of these high contract guys that don't produce like their salaries say they should may be gone.

I'm excited about the restructuring, as well. Losing John Guy and getting Nix were high on my list. Now add in the Whaley thing, the coaching staff finally has a QB coach, a revamped strength program, and bringing DeHaven back really makes me feel good. I think DeHaven got a raw deal after 'Home-Run Throwback'. I am still not too high on Modrak, but most of his work is already done, and losing him before this years draft would not serve any purpose. Besides, with Nix now working the lines, I feel that the bust decisions that have marked Modrak's tenure will suddenly come to an abrupt halt.

Eerily similar to McGahee and Peters. They're both gone and I certainly don't want another.

What about now, Billsfreak? I would say that Cortez as QB coach and Gailey as offensive coordinator/ head coach will prove positive. Providing Nix gets some offensive tackles in Buffalo.
-
Or that one pass to #85 of the Giants, where it was like 3rd and 15, and he broke Talley's tackle, Kelso's, and like 3 other Bills to get that 1st down. That play still drives me nuts. Poor, poor, poor tackling on that one. And I think that was the drive that proved to be the winning points for the Giants.

I agree with this. We scrapped Losman because he was way too erratic and turnover prone. That was a positive, but I also don't believe that Edwards was coached by someone who knew what they were doing and was thrown into the fire too soon. "Oh well, too bad so sad", some may say. "That's the modern NFL". Ok. I don't disagree with that. But if you can put yourself into a position to train and groom an eventual franchise QB, why wouldn't you? Edwards has played behind a hideous offensive line and how many offensive coordinators in the past few seasons? Getting knocked out of that AZ game certainly did not advance his career. I say get a veteran in here, capable of leading, winning now, and bringing some consistency to the QB position like Jeff Garcia. Then I would say get a capable #2 guy who has demonstrated being able to carry the load if need be, but also being younger and may even eventually step into the #1 role like Thigpen (who looked good playing under Gailey in KC), or even Gradkowski in Oakland. I would probably draft a solid QB at #2 this year like Tony Pike. Then I would have both Brohm and Edwards duel it out in camps this year to determine who stays and who goes. This would give Edwards a chance to start over, as he, Brohm, and Pike could all be trained and groomed under Cortez while Garcia and Thigpen lead. Edwards still has 1 year left on his deal. I'd atleast give him this offseason and training camp to see if he can start over and get his confidence back. And Nix will also need to be hard at work getting some starting tackles in here as well.

The way we watch football could be changing soon...

I don't know how anyone could give Berman any grief. Besides the late Tim Russert, Berman is one of the few national personalities that actually backs the Bills. If you want to talk about lame personalities, one need look no further than the horrid CBS pre-game show. Shannon Sharpe is a loud mouth baffoon, Marino is a whining baby, and Cowher's chin owns so much of the camera that it's hard to see anything else. None of them are funny or even the slightest bit entertaining. If it wasn't for James Brown and some reasonable input by Esiason, I'd say blow it all up! Berman is a legend and it would be disappointing to see him leave ESPN for the NFL Network. I personally feel that Rich Eisen's schtick is getting old, but Berman IS ESPN. Berman and Tom Jackson rock! -
I live in DC. And....NO.

I want: Jeff Garcia, Tyler Thigpen, Tony Pike, and a battle to determine the winner between Brohm and Edwards. I also think Bruce Gradkowski has shown flashes of brilliance and ability during his short career thus far, and would also be a reasonable acquisition until the 'Next One' emerges to lead the Bills.

Or Whitner for Ngata?

Interesting. We'll see if the injuries subside.

C'mon, the Sabres have recently hit a slump, but this is the time when hockey fully fills the void.

Anyone else feel the SB was boring?
Red replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not really too hyped about it going in unless the Bills were playing. Since that has not happened in a few years, the Super Bowl has been something I have watched with a passing interest only. This past decade though has really had some good contests (Titans Rams, Philly- New England, Carolina- New England and a couple of others that I am sure I am missing), yesterday's game certainly had something lacking. Even most of the commercials were lame. -
Where was Elway from again? Moon? Brady?

How many of us wanted Hargrove gone?
Red replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was. He himself admits that he had to hit rock bottom for him to finally get himself turned around. I'm sorry, but he 'aint that great. Last time I checked, the Bills were a professional football team and not an addiction center. -
Excellent points and examples. And I am a Garcia proponent. I agree that both Walsh and Levy liked Edwards coming out of Stanford where all he did was pick himself off of the turf. Under the Mularkey (that name is so funny) era, we had Sam Wyche as QB coach. Before that both Williams and Jauron after chose not to focus on QB development with hiring a specialist. Now, Gailey has brought in a QB coach who has some big names attached to his resume on having a hand in grooming. Its about time. Gailey is also offensive minded, which Ralph can deny it as much as he wants but this change in overall perspective at the head coaching position, IMO, will pay dividends for our offense for years to come. I think we need to bring in a starting veteran (Garcia), and younger, solid #2 (Thigpen), draft a QB in the 2nd (Pike), and let Brohm and Edwards duel it out with the rookie for a roster spot. Edwards has 1 year left on his current deal, and I think he was thrown into the fire too soon and never given proper coaching. The concussion did not help along with our porous offensive line. IMO, Edwards has never had a chance TO develop! As far as San Diego, they had Brees coming off major shoulder surgery and had a promising 1st round QB in Rivers chomping at the bit to get on the field. In the free agent, dollars and cents era of today's NFL, Brees was questionable as to whether he could regain his form, and the Chargers had invested big time in what they hoped would be their QB of the future. It was a calculated gamble, and I don't think anyone in San Diego is hurting themselves at all over Brees.

Kelly played in Miami....

That's a great point, actually. And for how much he focused on building an awesome 'D', Williams and Donahoe probably would have done something stupid had they even gotten Brees. Like draft another Mike Williams or something...

Brees more proof....Always take your QB FIRST
Red replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not convinced in any of these guys coming out this year. None of them strike me as a Manning or even a Brady. I like the idea of getting an older, solid veteran that can still do it for 1-2 seasons (McNabb, Garcia), a solid, younger #2 (Thigpen), and drafting perhaps a 2nd rounder (Pike), and letting Brohm and Edwards duel it out for a roster spot. I think that this would send a clear message to both Brohm and Edwards, while giving them some time along with the draft pick to slow down, start over, and begin anew with a QB teacher we now have on our coaching staff. Let competition bring out the best player. I still think that the Bills threw Edwards into the fire too soon. I don't think that legends like Walsh and Levy were wrong on him. He's got 1 year left on his current deal. I don't see the harm in taking him away from all of the pressure and truly allowing him to start over again before we make a decision on his future. Same thing with Brohm. He looked like our most talented QB in that Falcons game. 1 game does not a career make, but he is young and was incredible in college. We got him for practically nothing, and I would like to see him given some tutelage like Edwards and groomed/ eased into the pro game. I mean, I love Kelly and all, but it's not like it was when he was playing. Teams had the luxury of keeping its talent because free agency hadn't hit yet. Teams like the 49ers could have a Montana and Young on their team for years. I would argue that the time sitting behind Montana added to Young's career and improved him as a player. Trust me, I think Edwards has regressed ever since the concussion he suffered in AZ 2 seasons ago. I'm not an Edwards lover. However, he has shown some flashes to me that would atleast warrant giving him a chance to start over under some sound coaching and a hopefully ever-improving offensive line. And if drafting a QB is such a gamble, then sheer numbers increases your odds of striking gold. GO BILLS! -

Not only that, but the last time I checked, Brees plays for the team that did NOT draft him at all....New Orleans. -
Report: Bills one of 3 going for McNabb
Red replied to shaker4187's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McNabb is a better option than Vick- as I want the Bills to have nothing to do with Vick. I personally like Jeff Garcia for a 2-year deal, but McNabb could be just as good- though McNabb does seem to go through lapses sometimes. Bringing in a veteran would provide insurance and allow either a draft pick or free agent or somebody already on the roster (Brohm or Edwards) to develop while being protected from the ravages of the NFL. It's a smart idea. This would not put the QB position in as much pressure as say, the offensive line was last year by trading Peters, not drafting a replacement like Oher, and cutting Walker the week before the opener. Regardless, I truly believe that the Bills now have the proper staff and QB guru to help train and develop our future franchise guy. Whether that comes from the roster or the draft or free agency (I also like getting Thigpen in Buffalo as a #2), I don't really care. I trust Nix will do the right thing. -
This is old news. This topic came up when Williams was interviewed this past season when the Saints came to Buffalo. Williams said that both he and Donahoe wanted Brees, and were planning on selecting him in the 2nd round. San Diego ended picking him a couple of picks ahead of the Bills. If I am not mistaken, the Bills took Nate Clements #1 and Schobel #2 (?). Williams then went on to say that he would probably still be in Buffalo if they had gotten Brees. My comments were to the effect of can you imagine how differently our team could have looked? We wasted approximately 3 1st round picks on trying to find a QB this decade. The Losman pick, the trade to New England for Bledsoe, and if they pick a QB in the 1st round this year. Brees would have eliminated atleast 2 of those 3, and if those 2 had been used on a LT or RT, LB...we would be in a totally different boat. It may have even had us taking a RB before Lynch, perhaps another WR to complement Evans, a pass rushing DE...the potential is endless. Combine that with selecting Ngata instead of Whitner, and all of a sudden the Bills are looking a whole lot meaner. Ngata would help me to forget about Pat Williams. The Bills have been a cluster this past decade because the people calling the shots don't know what they are doing. The Bills have been effectively chasing their tail since Butler, Smith, Ferguson, and Nix left. They take 1 step forward and then 2 steps back. Here's to hoping the Nix regime will change the trend and soon.
