Bills Raiders AFC Championship game - the National Anthem
Red replied to bbb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My friends and I drank so much for that game that the only thing I can remember is never sitting down because the Bills kept scoring. -
I defer to the experts actually doing the scouting and drafting. Heck, even those guys can't get it right. I'm hesitant to mortgage the future to pay for today.

The HELL with the coaching search...
Red replied to Solomon Grundy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
no, linebacker. -
Good points, all...but here's the thing: he's interviewing for the head coaching position, not offensive coordinator.

Dear Mr. Wilson, I Am Done With The Bills.
Red replied to tonyd19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey VA, I live in Northern VA, and am a Bills fan too. Have been since '88, when I started watching football. The Bills ARE my team. In fact, if not for the Bills, the NFL would be getting $0 from me. I love the game, but without the BUFFALO Bills not enough to pay for it. So, if the Bills ever moved I would probably be done caring about professional football. Though my wife and I no longer live in WNY, I can proudly say that I completed all of my schooling in WNY. Alot of family still lives up there. I still call it home. DirecTV makes alot of money off of me every year, simply to follow the Bills and Sabres. But I question what you want to be loyal to, exactly? What I can't seem to understand, is how all of the dingleberry posters on this board can't seem to do 2 things at once. Why can't you be a fan of the Buffalo Bills, but not support the past decade of mediocrity and demand more from the owner? Apparently, many on this board see them as separate. I don't. To me, refusing to hand over another cent until this team improves by sacrificing seeing the team is perhaps the ultimate act of fandom. Sacrificing your own instant gratification while demanding something greater. Alot of posters so maddened by anything less than undying loyalty and forking over an ever increasing bundle of cash every year for Bills merchandise ('gotta support the team') are probably of the sort who want to surrender their liberties inherent as Americans to a bloated, socialist government that can't call a terrorist a terrorist. Blind Loyalty leads to tyranny, my friend. You should go back and read your Jefferson. And tryanny is exactly what Wilson has given us this past decade. It is not until a concerned population (albeit Bills fans) stand up, demand accountability, and truly DRIVE this message with their collective pocketbooks that any meaningfull change will occur. -
Bills Have two options & two options only @HC

What about Stanford head coach jim Harbaugh? -

And thus you allow yourself to be held hostage. Support mediocrity because you are afraid of losing it. Don't the fans of Buffalo deserve more? -
I think you are giving the Tampax 2 defense too much credit. It was truly only efficient in being a bend-but-don't-break, stop the bleeding-type of philosophy....

My first choice was Gruden. I then believed that Schottenheimer or Cowher would bring the hard-nosed, run-oriented offense we need. Now, I'm intrigued by Stanford's Jim Harbaugh.

Raiders to Fire Head Coach Cable Today
Red replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Huh? Yes they are. ALL 3 teams in CA are targeted. Since the Oakland is in CA, that would mean that they are on "the list". -

Red replied to tonyd19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you in principle. For all of these dingleberries giving you hell, maybe the "old-timers" they claim to be can remember times when the Bills sucked, and nobody went to the games. Does that mean that they weren't "fans"? Less Buffalonian because they were not mindless drones who threw away hundreds of dollars on garbage? For someone like an owner of an NFL franchise, the only thing that gets their attention is less butts in the seats. It is the only thing proven to create positive change. The recent fan protest in Cleveland, or the public outcry in Washington are perfect examples. They all threaten the bottom line, paint the owner in a negative light, and demand to be addressed. What is wrong with demanding a better product? -
Would You be Excited with Pete Carroll as Head Coach?
Red replied to Hsp08's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. Both the Jets and Patriot players, when he was originally fired from those posts, both breathed a collective sigh of relief that his sophomoric antics were gone. None of the professional athletes liked his collegiate approach in the locker room or on game day. Carroll is ideally suited for the college game. He has a tremendously successful and well-built team at USC. He could become the Bowden of college football if he stays. He will crash and burn if he returns to the NFL. -
Could the Bills be playing 'hardball' with Cowher?

Could the Bills be playing 'hardball' with Cowher?
Red replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, the CBS broadcast sucks royally (I keep wishing that Bruce Smith comes ripping from off stage and then sacks Marino, knocking him to the ground, causing Marino to cry to the producer), as none of them are charming or really informative. James Brown is the sole bright spot, and Esiason with a better cast could be respectable. One thing that irritates me is how irrelevant the Bills are. I would even notice during the season how Brown would not even mention the Bills final score, as if they did not even play. Now, based upon what we have watched this season I would have to agree, but to not even mention the game is a serious slight. Cowher is really starting to irritate me. Like the previous poster said, if he wanted to squash the story he would just come out and say that he is not interested. Instead, he is not doing that. He is playing games. I say quit the tap-dancing already. Either ****, or get off the pot! I would like to see the Bills pursue Jim Harbaugh. -
Could the Bills be playing 'hardball' with Cowher?
Red replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, but Cowher did not really develop a Super Bowl legacy until Big Ben arrived. That has me wondering how much of it was truly Cowher and how much of it was finally getting a franchise QB. For all of the (what I am sure is flattering) interest in Cowher (do we really need to inflate that ego anymore than it already is?), his tap-dancing is getting really old, really fast. Either be a man and say 'no, you are not interested', or sit down and talk out a deal. At this point, and with all of these coordinators who now seem so happy in their current post, I like Jim Harbaugh in Stanford. -
Jay Glazer has a ton of "buff news" on coach
Red replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would like to see the Bills interview Jim Harbaugh from Stanford. He always played with fire, and although he never QB'd the Bills, he sure did know how to circle the wagons. We could use a guy with that fire and heart in Buffalo. Especially after all of these "big name" former coaches and "hot" coordinators want everything handed to them. -

Red replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think that they are playing hardball. As evidenced by the Shanahan courtship, the Bills are not afraid to throw entire banks worth of cash at their next coach. Money is not the issue. I think that the issue truly is a belief held around the NFL (true or not) that someone or some group of people in the Bills organization are real problems with truly building a winning team. Whether that's Overdork, Brandon, Wilson, whomever. People 'in the know' know that something either is or has been dysfunctional with the team, and don't want to go near it. On the one hand, I am amazed at how these supposedly big deal coaches with Super Bowl wins want everything handed to them; which I imagine is to not tarnish their precious records or "legend". Which to me is cowardly and too self-serving to warrant any further consideration. But on the other hand, reports are leaking out about all of these coordinators- supposedly hungering for their shot at an NFL franchise- suddenly content at their current position. First the young Schottenheimer, now Rivera and Grimm are rumored to be saying the same thing. I grew up with the Bills of the late 80's and early 90's. But I can remember how Jim Kelly elected to go to the USFL instead of the Bills. How Bruce Smith grumbled about coming to Buffalo. Bennett the same thing. NOBODY wanted to come to Buffalo. I don't see this as any different. If the Bills really wanted to play hardball, they would publicly state that Cowher had his chance and they are moving on. That, atleast for me, would make me proud that they are serious this time around, and no prima donna coach looking more to pad his stats than truly build a winner need apply. One person I am starting to become interested in (in part because of his brother's success in Baltimore and also in part because of his play when he was a QB of the Colts) is Stanford's Jim Harbaugh. His play was always Flutie-esque, and he played with heart. I think that he'd be a good fit. -
Loving it!! Especially the Brady screw-ups! Baby must be getting to him!! Anyone who thinks that the Patriots better days are behind them are delusional.

Just read the article, and it could be pure conjecture on the part of ESPN. Then again, with our track record thus far, it does not seem so far fetched. It really makes me mad, however, that these coaches would shun the Bills and look down on them like they are garbage. It does say something about the team's management structure as viewed by the rest of the league, and I sincerely hope that the Nix to GM and Brandon to CEO make the needed change. I'm also hoping for a Guy and Modrak firing to come soon. That being said, I am hoping that the next coach we find is the 'real deal'; whether he be a known name or an assistant or a college coach. And then I hope that we never let up on the gas pedal and smoke all of these teams led by these cowardly coaches who want everything handed to them before they sign on the line.
-
I like the ideas and emphasis on building the lines. I also like Pike coming out of Cincy- although in their Bowl game he did not look too good- but neither did their entire offense. The Bills really need to start building those lines, as Wood and Levitre were good starts, Meredith and Bell may offer some development potential, and I like Incognito. We need mauling tackles. With the exception of K. Williams, our D-line is getting nothing but older, and needs a fresh start. I would have loved Ngata or even Bunkley over Whitner, and Orakpo over Maybin. Oh well.

I'm with you on this one, and feel that choice 'A' is also a good answer to Holmgren's "NO" and Cowher's goofy tactics at this point. I am also losing a tremendous amount of respect for all of these coaching candidates, as they all apparently want everything handed to them and be in place when they arrive (franchise QB, offensive line, etc). In today's Buffalo News piece, Cowher is listed as wanting a team with a QB already in place. I mean, the reason a job even becomes available is because the team that did the firing is in need of change and does not have the pieces to compete. With the exception of the Tony Dungy firing in Tampa (and perhaps his hiring in Indy), seldom does a new coach walk into a situation already in place. To me, BUILDING the program into a winner is often more exciting than having one already in place.

Or Plaxico....or Tank.... ...hey, didn't Donkey Kong or Mario Kart or Pac Man (Whatever his name was) have gun problems, too?

Anyone else feel like just giving up?
Red replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who says anything about changing teams? Why can't one demand more from an owner and management group? -
Question: Why would you, as a professional anything, be in an area where someone would even think about putting a gun in somebody else's face for anything other than self-defense?
