  1. If we blow up this squad in the offseason, they need to clean house and I mean really clean house. This includes dumping people who may not be ready to go just to clean out the regime. Just going to the roster, I think the following people must be gone:

Owens - He is not going to want to return. His drops have been painful to watch this season.

Reed - Years have gone by where we have heard about his great route running and good run blocking, he is part of the old regime, needs to go.

Parrish - His fumbles have killed us one too many times.

Fitzpatrick - clearly not the answer, starter or backup

Edwards - Did not think I would be saying this, as I am a big fan of his, but he can not win. His head is just shot (I will bite my tongue as he shows up elsewhere and leads them to the playoffs).

Butler - His talent is there, but he is too injury prone. If we could trade him for a draft pick, I would do so.

Denney/Kelsey - We have spent too many years with this 2 headed monster

    Whitner - needs to go.

There are other fringe players on defense that I would also dump, but most would have some value as backups or spot starters (i.e. Shobel, Ellison.)

So next years lineup would look something like this:

    QB - 1st Round Pick

    RB - Jackson

    WR1 - Evans

    WR2 - Hardy

    WR3 - Johnson

    TE - Nelson

    LT - 2nd Round Pick

    LG - Levitre

    C - Hangartner

    RG - Wood (Simmons platooning)

    RT - Bell

    - If we keep Incognito, move Levitre to LT, Wood to LG and Incognito to RG

    DE - Schobel

    DT - Williams

    DT - Stroud

    DE - Ellis

OLB - Poz (yes I am moving him outside)

    OLB - Mitchell

MLB - 3rd Round Pick or DiGiorgio

    CB - McGee

    CB - Florence/McKelvin

    S - Byrd

    S - Wilson

Ideally, I would like to replace Mitchell and Ellis (maybe another year and Maybin will be better?)

    thoughts?

Your concept about WR production is well noted. Good/bad or other, the production we are seeing there does not pass for any of the current top 4 bills wideouts, so why not unload them and start grooming the next crop because it just makes no sense to invest $ for less than 160 total rec yards/game.

For example, no need to pay 6.5 million/yr for 51 yards/game (TO), 9.8 million for 31 yrds/game (LE), 2 million for reeds 21 yrd/game, $2.5million for parrish 2 catches and punt returns. For that level of production we should not be paying over $20 milllion. In fact it looks like the Bills are by far and away the most expensive group of WR's. In fact based on 2008 data and adding TO, almost twice any other team and over 3 times the average at WR. I was shocked when i started looking at these numbers.

Not only are you right on about the other 3, but Maybe lee needs to go too. I know fans like him, as do I, but for $10 million a year the Bills should be paying for the entire reciveing corp and have a couple $million left over for a above average, TE, Linemen or LB.

    Man this team is mismanaged...

  2. Aside from your apples to dumptrucks comparison, I've never said Vick shouldn't be allowed to play football.

I've said I don't want Vick in Buffalo because he's a sh--ty QB; in addition to being a convicted felon. Big difference.

Its true. Even when he was at his best, he was an occasianal electric play-maker, but not a leader or solid NFL qb.

I am guessing the majority of folks that dont want Vick the felon probably wouldn't want him even if he never cuddled up to bubba in cell block D.

  3. I am interested in him as well. He floudered in Greenbay where Mccarthy is a QB guru. They liked him enough to try and hide him on their practice squad. They even matched the Bills Offer. That says something at least. He's got the arm and Size to be a NFL QB. If he can't grasp the mental part which he reportedly had issues with then he will be a journeyman QB.

The Bills seem impressed with him but that doesn't say much given their track record with QB's. Holcomb, JP, Trent, Fitz have all been terrible.

    dont forget Nall...

  4. I don't think there's been an "ovefblown sense of optimism" on this board since the 5-1 start last year. For the most part it's been down right negative. And what difference does it make to you if there are some out there that may be overly optimistic, why do you take it personally?

In Bills nation, its so bad that having any positive feelings can seem to some just overblown optimism...

On the pats thing, any team can beat any team on any given sunday, the Bills could beat the pats, but the chance is likely under 5%.

    On the QB note:

It took two games for the NFL to figure out how to render fitzpatrick useless... Maybe we should activate the Newbie from the practice squad and we can play QB roullete every week to confuse opposing D.

    *sigh*

  5. This is all a symptom of how bad it really was. Just like Buf News article comparing Fitz to Manning. When you have gone so long without knowing what good looks like, even slightly better than marginal looks good.

Yes we are now watching a gamday run like the current roster seems to be built. Taking risks and playing to win. DJ played not to lose but never had the defense or power running to pull that strategy off. Fewell, is taking risks and allowing fitzP to take risks which make sense with the skill position players...

I remain with many other posters here, maybe Fewell stays HC, maybe back to his old spot or maybe he goes, but a real GM is the need... Period. After that a real football guy can look at the organization and figure out what is broken, what is working, what is missing, etc.

  6. I was watching ESPN news and they mentioned that Dungy could be a serious candidate. They did note what he did for the Tampa frachise as well as Indy. Maybe that is why he said Vick would be in Buffalo next year.

I am shocked. Dungy left an outstanding situation with a great GM, owner and personnel with at least a few HOFers, and a great supporting cast. I cant imagine one wanting to leave that situation then wanting to come into this one now.

Marty is probably the only realistic name of those expereinced coaches mentioned. Gruden perhaps on the outside.

  7. Without a plan in place going forward this was an absolutely pointless move at this time. The Bills should have already had multiple interviews scheduled for their permanent coach when they pulled the plug. Maybe they do, I don't know. But if not this move is just stupid and pointless.

If they want to do anything positive in the near future they should have a coach in place by Thanksgiving (and I don't mean Fewell or April or anybody else on staff) and a new GM and a reorganized front office completed before Christmas. If they can't manage that, then this move was nothing but more of Ralph Wilson's mindless bullshlt.

Ralph has been a respected businessman his whole life. We are talking about a sought after, highly compensated position, not the truck unlaoder at Walmart(not that there is anything wrong with that if thats how you choose to make a living). No way Ralph would act that unprofessionally, unethically and classless. Not even Al Davis is that slimy.

  8. I don't like Shanahan for the Bill's job because of how bad his defenses have been. He has never been able to put together any sort of reliable defense. I think we really need to get a defense together that can dominate.

That being said - I'd take Shanahan andf who knows, maybe he will hire a defensive coordinator and let him get some players for the defense.

Have you seen his jewlery collection? He must know somethign about getting a defense on the field...

  9. In general I have to agree with the poster here. TE's issues are more mental than physical, like JP. The difference is JP was not too bright, and TE is just not that passionate and does nto have the fire to win. I suspect DJ would never be visibly mad at a player and bench them unless it was about effort or attitude.

I always felt a good coach could have worked around that, but it's mute, his stint here is over.

And unlinke many NFL'ers, TE actually got a decent education in a field that would have required some smarts. Maybe he doesn't care that much but is willing to take the NFL paycheck until he accumulates enough to be financially independent.

  10. He's played at Notre Dame so he knows how to play in Winter conditions unlike QB's from Tulane and the Pac-10.

As others said this organization is toxic for QB prospects... Without changes Clausen would just be another tackling dummy that acts like a team player in press conferences...

As an interesting side note on drafting QB's. Have a look at the first 5 QBs drafted Losman's year: Eli Manning, Phillip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger, J.P. Losman, Matt Schaub

  11. Ticket sales, not team record is the metric here. It's all in the buzz factor. The firing will lead to a positive buzz.

If the firing occurs now, the buzz will be wasted as the Bills are so awful, that nothing done now will change the season results.

But if the buzz happens in February or whereabouts, the buzz may help season ticket sales.

Wouldn't it be nice if they turned that problem on its head by ask the season ticket holders to renew now and after acehiveing x% renewals, they clean house now,so we can hit the ground running next season...

I know its just not how the world works, but if Bills nation is given the option to vote it would be interesting what the poll told us...

  12. Same thing here. I end up laughing. It is a coping mechanism.

Seriously, how can the fans be smarter than the people who get paid to do this? It is actually funny how bad russ brandon is. He should go to hell. It makes me laugh, not cry, how bad this front office is. DJ's gametime decisions are actually funny! Really, how much more of a joke could it be?? So I laugh.

Fans are not smarter. According to the Sporting news revenue profiles the Bills organization is raking in a 20%+ margin on a consistantly below average product... That's brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
