You have no way of knowing if he is a Barry Sanders or a Reggie Bush (3rd down back) and Chris Johnson is good but the titans were still only 8-8 last year with a better D, and better QB situation.
If you feel you are a RB away from a super bowl contender, go for it. A mediocre line will get a guy like this killed. By the time the rest of the team is built up he is 3 years older and his surgically patched body runs a 4-5 40.
The only way I am happy with the bills picking him up is if they structure with him right after the pick for a linemen, and my read so far of Nix tells me there is no way Spiller is a consideration at 9.

RIGHT THERE....perfectly said....Haloti Ngata...HELLO Ray Lewis again....the big fat men eating up all the blockers for the LB's to run around and make plays...totally agree...and lets not forget Cody is that man for McClain
Great point, didn't even think of it. I agree good big men make everyone else better. FJ and ML behind a stout line would put up 1000 a piece.
I think any of the QB's we have could handle handing the ball to a running back. (see NYJ playoff run)
-
Smokescreen time. Players who were considered great will all of a sudden have "questions" and "flaws" that nobody talked about before now. McClain is a stud and will be a stud.
I hope to see the 1 jersey wrapped around a 300+ lber myself. I think someone like SF makes a surprise move and grabs him earlier than what was thought.
-
Clausen is going to be there folks.....
Then I hope he is there at 10 too. I am pulling for an OL or DL... Not sold on any projected first round QB.
-
Why not rotate him is as NT on passing situations? (assuming we get a run clogger in the draft)
-
Dude, we get it. You want the Bills to draft Bradford. Even if he were there at #9, he still ain't worth the pick. He's not a franchiser and there is not a franchise QB in this draft. The Bills already have 3 backup QBs, adding a fourth is only going to ensure thay have someone to take snaps when the other three go down with injuries.
Sorry That can't be the trooth... There is a franchise QB in the draft as there is just about every year, it's just a question of who will be smart enough to pick him as he is not always the guy touted as the #1 QB coming out.

Well, I live about 3 minutes from the stadium, so it wasn't quite a transcontinental journey. Some large segments of society would probably deem someone who has posted almost 900 times on an NFL message board a loser.
I guess it's all perspective, aye?
If you aren't one of those things maybe you could/should be. It was more insightful than most of the formally published material. Thanks for the post. I'd tell you to ignore the D-bag wonderful guy, but it’s clear you’re not the one with self confidence issues...
-
I read these postings everyday on this site and I'd say 90% of them are all negative comments about either our coaching staff or current players. Kind of strange that so many people call themselves a Bills fan but yet do nothing but trash the team and give their great insights why good players will be bad and why bad players will be good. Kind of pathetic!
This is a very negative post. Should really try to be more constructive...

I second and third that.
and she know sports...
ADD: I forgot- great pick up. I am really encouraged by everything I’ve seen from the new and improved front office so far.

Yeah He barely accomplished anything in college:
2008: All-Pac 10 Conference first-team selection…
The three-year starter
Defensive MVP award at the Holiday Bowl
Fourth on the team with 83 total tackles and second with 60 solo hits,
1.5 stops for minus 3 yards…Caused and recovered a fumble…
five interceptions, good for 52 yards in returns
19 pass break-ups and ranked second in the league and third in the nation with a total of 26 passes defended (1.46 pg)…
Finished third in the conference with a 12.31-yard average (20th nationally) on 26 punt returns for 320 yards and a touchdown…
Benefited from tremendous strength as he joined a pair of current teammates in equaling the program's all-time power clean lift by a defensive back (330 lbs.) during the 2008 winter testing...
Byrd started each of his final 37 contests during a 39-game career at left cornerback, recording 203 tackles (143 solos)
with six stops for losses of 17 yards, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries…Deflected 53 passes, The Pacific-10 Conference's honorable mention all-league standout and leader in interceptions was the Ducks' fifth-leading tackler...
2006: 13 GP; 11 GS; 40 Sol-56 TT, 0.5 TFL, 5 INT, 7 PBU, 1 FF; Earned Pac-10 Conference Co-Freshman Player-of-the- Year honors as well as second-team Freshman All-America
***************************
DJ was a lousey HC, but he knows DB's. Byrd is the real deal and he is going to get even better.

I believe you have made your stance with striking clarity, however, in effort to open this up to the forum:
Riddle me this ICEMAN... with regard to the age old "best player available" vs. "position of need" debate would you:
A. Draft a LT that had a 50/50 shot of being Mike Williams and a 50/50 shot of being Jonathan Ogden
OR
B. Draft a LB that that had a 100% shot of being Lawrence Taylor
But come on, not even LT had 100% chance of being LT. Brian Bozworth was supposed to be one of the best linebackers to ever come out of college... and instead was a $10+ million dollar 2 year bust

If Pittsburgh lets him go that means they think he's guilty, and I can't get too excited about cheering for a rapist.
What he said. If he is guilty, then and only then could I see him getting dumped by Pit. In that case no thanks, I'd rather see an 0-16 season than have a D-Bag that behaves that way.
-
I'm not a big Cody fan...but that block is re-god-damn-diculous.
Talk about sealing the corner... Maybe we ought to consider drafting him as a fullback...
-
As long as we get a big strong NT that can play on 3rd down occasionally, I don't care who we get. I expect the Scouting group should be able to figure that out.
Truly great personal story, thanks for sharing it from that other post.

Based on some quick web searching, it looks like the best Vet QB prospect out there is Chad Pennington and the best young but unknown prospect is Brett Ratliff.
I am not sure what you do with that... Maybe we stick with what we've got. I don't think there will be any QB worth drafting at 9... and my guess is the later the round the lower the probability of hitting a winner?

Any OT except Okung or Bulaga
C.J. Spiller
Dan Willams
I am not trying to contend your point here, but i am curious. Do you have a specific concern with Dan Williams or are you opposed for a general reason. I ask b/c I'd not heard anything negative about him.
I'll be annoyed if they pick any DB WR RB. I want to see the best availble of NT, OL and QB I don't think there are any worth a #9 pick for this team.
-
Was that rag dolls or egg rolls? Like I said before if we are lucky he will mistake Brady for a buffalo wing and eat him. When we had Ted Washington nobody could run against us if I remember right.
Washington and Pat Williams. What a duo...
All personal attacks aside, the qestion mark is will a guy that is that out of shape be able to compete at the NFL level. If he has the strength and stamina to last 60 minutes and keep o linemen of of our LB's, I dont care if he's got triple D's blow his knees.
-
Back when the Bills used to run a 3-4 the LB's seemed so critical. If Maybin can turn into the stud OLB we all hope he is, Poz can stay healthy, with Mitchell, IMO they are one more solid LB and LARGE STRONG NT away from a decent front 7.
Whitner/scott may actually be better suited as SS's in this D alignment than in tampa 2.
There is certainly enough pieces there to warrent some optomism about the defenses prospects next year if a few more moves are made...
-
After playing countless Madden Franchises as the Bills over many years, I feel like "we" comes as naturally to me as being VP did to Al Gore.
You may be on to something here. If the entire Bills nation could play the bills in franchise mode, and the most successful party would then provide the blueprint for success we would effectively use computer modeling to save the franchise.
-
I am just glad he's not on the Pats any more. Browns are making some nice moves...
-
Dennis Leary could narrate this one pretty well... YIKES!
-
You gotta go Dan Williams with pick 9 here if you want to nail NT right? You get a strong 330 lb'er who can run a 5.17 40. Wilfork like.
Cody was over 5.7 at 354 lbs... just plain heavy does not = good NT IMO
-
round1-Brian Baluga OT
round2-Terrence Cody DT
round3- John skelton QB Rising up draft boards
round4- George Selvie ( turn him to OLB)
round5- Eric Olson ( Center/Guard)
round6-Carlton Mithell WR
round 7- Kion Wilson LB
Looking at the youtube vids of Skelton, it looks like he can really zip the ball around the feild. I really hope to see that many picks bolstering the trenches.

The only DB we get a first for is Byrd... And i am not for that.
Are we sure Bell can't be a good OLT?

No huddle... thanks for reminding me. How drunk were they when they were sitting around thinking... Payton manning does it, Kelly did, why can't Trent? It sounds as crazy today as it did when they rolled it out. Do you think it was Rlaphs idea?
Harry Stuhldreher and the 4-horsmen had a heluva season in '25. I think they went no huddle... Lets give it a go...
