Free Agency News and Updates - around the league

I think he’s a good RT. He’s not even close to a 15M player, and if the Jets pay him that to be a decent RT I’ll be smiling knowing that we’re paying Nsekhe less than half that much. And for the record, on one of Jordan Phillips’ sacks, Conklin got housed by Trent Murphy on a spin move. No, that was Lewan. -

Good. He can bring that wonderful pass blocking that saw the Bills destroy the Titans’ OL to the tune of 5 sacks, 8 pressures, 5 hurries, and 4 QB knockdowns to a team we play 2x per year ? -
Cover 1 Ruggs is more than just speed

I don’t see how CeeDee gets past 17. Top 3 WRs almost have to be gone by then with all of NYJ, LV, Indy, Denver, and Dallas picking 11-17. -

I see 11 as the most likely landing spot for Chaisson since I think there’s a real chance that all of Becton/Willis/Wirfs could be gone. -

If they take either of those guys at 22 I will be very disappointed. -

Basically. They don’t have a starting OT under contract. Their best pass rusher had 8.0 sacks and is a FA; their 2nd best pass rusher is a FA. Their 3 best corners all allowed passer ratings of over 95.0. 4 of their top 5 tacklers were DBs. Almost have to get a WR1 before the draft; can’t count on such an important component coming from an immediate rookie contribution in an offense as complex as Daboll’s. -

Joe “The Show” Schoebert to hit the open market... -
I still ? at people that think Mahomes and Jackson—both of whom played 3 seasons for current/former NFL HCs in college—can be compared to Allen in the “project” department. Also, if Allen is “who the back of his football card says he is”, then I’ll go with “10-5 as a starter and 6th among QBs in TDs”

My R1 EDGE grades are Young, Chaisson, Baun, and Greenard.

Possibility of trading up to #16 (Atlanta)

For a QB yeah. WR and pass rusher are getting 20. Corner and OT are getting 15. -

So the Patriots didn’t trade up for Jerod Mayo, Chandler Jones, and Donte Hightower? There's no hard-and-fast do/don’t rules regarding trades in the draft. Go up when the value is there, go back when the board dictates that it makes sense. For teams that are close to a championship, it may not make sense to trade back and accumulate picks when only 4-5 may make the roster. Re: BPA, pure BPA makes sense on day 3. On day 1/2, it’s BVA—best value available. Positional value is critical—get the best players at premium positions so that you don’t have to pay $20M in FA. -
He doesn’t have a R1 grade from me He's got some flexibility as either a 5 or 7 tech, but he’s more of a complementary piece IMO. There’s more to squeeze from him too—he’s making plays on athleticism and instinct now, but there’s times he looks like a man without a plan. Once he gets comfortable in a scheme and gets himself to the point where his technique is 2nd nature, he’s going to be special.

What really irks me is how people want to complicate what’s a really simple situation. Ask yourself 3 questions: 1) Does Allen have an NFL skill set? 2) Has he shown clear and obvious improvements in most/all the areas of deficiency identified when he entered the league? 3) Is there any reason to believe that he will or won’t continue to improve from where he is now?

Guess the Browns and Jets should cut their QBs ASAP then. I mean, what’s the implication here, that a QB simply is who he is after year 2? Should we ignore all of the times when that’s not true like Brees, Brady, Rodgers, Garoppolo, Alex Smith, or a half dozen others we could all name pretty readily? What’s so wrong with taking player evaluations on a case-by-case basis?

Is Josh Allen A Good Quarterback??? (Good Film Breakdown)
thebandit27 replied to Scorp83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Um, yes, we were clearly and obviously better with Allen than we would’ve been with Case Keenum. I keep saying this for context: Allen scores more TDs than all but 5 other QBs. That on its face can be written off as “yeah but”, until you look around the league and see that it’s by far the highest percentage of scoring from any team’s QB. You want to talk about Daniel Jones, so let’s talk about the Giants. Their QBs scored a combined 32 TDs; the rest of their team scored 10. That’s NOT good. By comparison, Lamar lead the NFL with 40 TDs; the rest of his team scored (get this) 27 TDs! So you can easily say that Jones didn’t exactly get much help. Now compare that to Allen. He scored 29 TDs...the rest of the team scored 6. Total. All year. He’s not holding back the offense; he is the offense. Also, it’s just a bit disingenuous to say he had 1-1/2 good games all year. He had a great game in Miami, and played well against the Giants, Denver, Washington, and Miami @ home. He also had several other stretches of solid play throughout other games. I don’t mind anyone being a skeptic, but honesty is pretty important in the Allen discussion (because it’s somewhat rare). -

Nice thread! Your top-12 is probably all gone by pick 15 without question, so the issue becomes who rounds out the final 3 picks of the top 15? My best guess is Chaisson, Kinlaw, and (believe it or not) Jordan Love—gotta figure a team like Indy, TB, or Jax gets desperate and snags a QB. In that scenario, which looks plausible to me , Someone is going to 16 for Ruggs; my guess is Philly. -
I think he’s got a legit shot to crack day 2 for sure. Nice long arms, good first step, and he can bend and close.

Have you watched Robinson? Monster.

The only guy that makes sense for them to move cap-wise is Woods. I mean, I suppose it’s possible that they’d move him, but I doubt it. -

As for WR, I think there will be some vets available via trade that aren’t talked about right now. I have my eye on Marvin Jones and Allen Robinson. GMs with their butts on the line do odd things. -

I think so as well. For me the big questions are: how do they get their WR1, and what do they choose to do at LG? Getting Spain back at $5M or less would be a win IMO, but I really have my doubts about Ford at RT. Glad to have Nsekhe, but he’s going to be 35 and had a bad injury for a big dude. I would really like to put Cody at LG and sign a young veteran with big-time upside like Fant to be the swing OT. Bring back Waddle and you’re all set IMO. Long is a capable IOL backup, and if Bates is your #9 OLman that’s not exactly a tragedy. -

I don’t think that’s true. WR1 will be the hardest, but there’s plenty of volume at the other spots. I mean, there are 13 starting OTs slated to hit the market. EDGE defenders are in abundance. Off the top of my head there’s Clowney, Ngakoue, Addison, Fowler, Quinn, Armstead, Judon, Dupree, Vernon, Mercilus, Griffen, Beasley, Barrett, and JPP. LB us relatively easy to fill. So yeah, if they can manage to get AJ or swing a trade for someone else, then they can absolutely fill all of them in FA. -

Exactly. So make sure you get a WR1, EDGE, LB, and whatever OL spot Ford doesn’t play in FA/trade so that you aren’t trying to fill needs. -

I just can’t consider draft picks as filling a need. You can’t count on them to contribute.
