  1. One 5.5-sack season gets him the same money that Jerry Hughes got after back-to-back 10-sack seasons....amazing.
  2. This is more than simply filling a need for me; this is personal. I've been a Dumervil guy since his junior season at Louisville, and I fought the masses that said he was too small to be a good pass rusher in the NFL (despite 20 sacks as a senior). I watched Buffalo pass on him for Whitner...then for McCargo...then for Ashton Youboty...then for Ko Simpson...then Denver took him 2 picks later. When Denver hosed up his restructure and he became a FA, I wanted Buffalo to pounce. I am Hemingway's Old Man, and Dumervil is the Marlin.
  3. If that were a real possibility then I'd be on the phone now.
  4. I must be the only one on earth that doesn't think that Klein was a good player
  5. Elvis Dumervil released... That there's your situational pass rusher if you want him.
  6. If I'm reading Vic correctly, they basically converted $7M off his 2017 base salary to a signing bonus.
  7. There's nothing to build up... Try not being emotional about it and look at the numbers: 2016 Season Gilmore: 69 targets, 40 receptions, 627 yards, 2 TDs, 5 INTs, 67.7 passer rating against, 42 solo tackles Richard Sherman, Seattle Seahawks: allowed 44 catches on 85 targets for 624 yards, two TDs, four INTs, 64.0 passer rating against, 38 solo tackles
  8. He is a CB1 by every possible metric.
  9. That's probably where I am as well...mostly--assuming that 1) doesn't work out--I want a guy like Garcia/Johnson in the fold for when Kouandjio leaves in FA. Seriously, that guy establishing enough FA value as a LT to bring in a R3 compensatory pick would almost make me forgive the FO for drafting him in the first place.
  10. I'm of 3 minds: 1) kick the tires on a vet like Vollmer to see what he's got left 2) look for a guy like Garcia or Roderick Johnson in R3 3) if all else fails, move Glenn to RT and Kouandjio to LT
  11. I like mid-round picks for anything every year. I know it's a long thread, but I've already discussed my draft/FA philosophy here. In short: fill needs in FA as fiscally-efficiently as you can without assuming you'll be able to fill them in the draft, then draft the best players at key positions without worrying about filling needs.
  12. About the same as Wagner...if he's coming here to play RT, he's going to cost too much money. I know I'm being bullish about my approach, but I can't condone spending serious money in the FA market on a position that most teams manage to fill with mid-round picks. Exactly...now I suppose it's possible that they wanted to see if they could leverage his previous experience with Dennison/Castillo into a more economical deal, in which case I wouldn't be too upset, but I'm not ready to give them the benefit of the doubt on that.
  13. I feel like we dodged a bullet here. I think this will, in time, look like the Tyson Clabo situation from a few years ago.
  14. I didn't see the comparison on mockdraftable, but that's the guy he most reminds me of as well--so maybe I'm not completely nuts.
  15. Sure, it's all assumption at this point...maybe I'm overconfident, but I like my chances of finding a Garcia/Roderick Johnson/Taylor Moton type that I can groom into a serviceable RT enough not to worry about it. Then again, I'm not the GM--a fact about which you should all be angry...or grateful...or maybe a bit of both
  16. Nah, I'm also looking at it that way. I'm not nearly as opposed to it at $8M AAV as I was at over 10
  17. Right...so just get me Antonio Garcia in R3 and we'll move on
  18. I don't see why Cordy would care--the big issue with not moving to RT is wanting to be paid like a LT, and Cordy already is. As for Kouandjio, I'm totally fine if he looks good and gets LT money in FA. That gives me a year to groom a mid-round pick to replace him, and also gives me a very likely 3rd round compensatory pick in 2019. True...I'm approaching the entire situation as though they're keeping Tyrod.
  19. Neither. I wouldn't touch an OT in the first 2 rounds of this draft. I would kick the tires on a guy like Vollmer to see what's left in the tank, then look at a guy like Dawkins or Roderick Johnson in R3 to compete at RT. If worst came to worst, I'd explore moving Glenn to RT for a year and playing Kouandjio at RT. Let's remember, as we clamor for Wagner, that he was a 5th round pick.
  20. Not really. Gilmore is apparently talking in the $13M AAV range, while we have reports that Wagner is going to "blow up" the RT market. Maybe these reports aren't considering Lane Johnson's deal because he's the eventual heir-apparent to Jason Peters at LT, but if I'm Wagner's agent I sure would be...so we're probably talking in the $11M AAV range for Wagner. And in my plan of signing the type of guys I mention, this team has more than enough cap space to bring in impact FAs at positions of need.
  21. Henderson's release would only save $1.8M against the cap in 2017, and Felton is a UFA., so it's still pretty darn expensive.
  22. Yeah, like I said, they're just different philosophies. Obviously I disagree regarding good LT/serviceable RT. In fact, that's what most teams are doing now. You'll be hard-pressed to find any teams paying both tackles serious money. Where I think we differ the most is that I look at FA and the draft as mutually-exclusive team-building operations. I'm looking to fill holes in FA without any thought of what I'm doing in the draft. In that vein, I can more efficiently allocate resources to the combination of guys like Zach Brown, Bethea, Verner, and a situational pass rusher than I can to guys like Wagner and Juszczyk. I then go into the draft and take the best players at premium positions, without any regard of what I do in FA. Again, just my philosophy.
  23. While I'd rather pay that money to Gilmore, I think you're missing the greater point: I'd rather pay for a CB or pass rusher with that money than a RT. That's exactly how I feel, but only at the non-premium positions. When it comes to QB, WR, pass rusher, and CB, I'm all for paying the elites. JMO of course.
  24. I don't agree with allocating significant portions of the cap to certain positions (like RT or #2 WR). I'm not saying not to address the position, but I would handle it differently. I would keep the option of moving Glenn in my back pocket if necessary, and I would prioritize positions like LB, S, and CB in free agency (via cap casualties where possible as I've said before). I don't want to rely on the draft to fill critical needs, because that forces your hand in the early rounds. For the money that it takes to sign Wagner, we could also likely sign a combination of Antoine Bethea, Alterraun Verner, and a situational pass rusher. I've now filled 3 of the 4 needs you listed above, and can go into the draft without having to force myself to overvalue certain positions. As I've said, it's a different philosophy.
  25. And yet this team has lead the NFL in rushing 2 consecutive years, and had the #10 scoring offense despite a truly horrific RT situation.
