Has this really turned into a debate about Flutie being nice? I met him in New Orleans in 98 and he was very cordial.

Yesterday and today, there's been tons of status updates from friends on mine via facebook. Some of them are taking repeated shots at MJ. A death is a death and is tragic. For anyone's sake. Obviously he had some mental issues, but if you can't say anything respectful, be tasteful and keep it to yourself. Whether some kooks like it or not, he undoubtedly impacted a lot of people's lives for the better.

I agree, however, either way, I get turned off with an artist when they use their platform for their political beliefs. It seems as though every musical artist is almost required to do that nowadays. Whatever happened to just good ole rock n roll like from the 70s and 80s?

I think we've all made our points and we just keep re-making them with different facts. And I think this thread is continuing just for the sake of arguing and slow news period.

1. I'd take a little fiery-ness in the locker room today if it brought us some wins. Sometimes you need your own teammate to slap you in the face. 2. Just because someone thinks Flutie was the option on our roster and was better than RJ, doesn't mean they are his lover. All this Flutie bitterness seems to come from deep emotions of the opposers.

Where is all this divisive player information on Flutie coming from? Rumors? Word of mouth? Hearsay? Comparing him to T.O.? Oh brother.... Oh brother! Sometimes it's just best to let lying dogs lie. Obviously Flutie is in your head.

What do you think happened to Tony in the end? Did he get hit? I strongly advise getting the LOST series!

You were the ones saying that Flutie had no credible influence on the team making the playoffs. I'm just saying that's an asinine statement. And yes, Trent Dilfer was a journeyman quarterback who didn't have great mobility or improvisation skills, but had good managing skills and could make that one play that they needed. But if you want to talk about defenses carrying the team, Baltimore's defense during that team era did TONS more scoring their offense did. Dilfer only completed 48% of his passes in that Super Bowl and was sacked nearly 4 times. Talk about defense carrying the team. Maybe if you dropped the Jills obsession for a few minutes you could see that. Trent's completion percentage in those playoffs that led to the Super Bowl: @ Ten = 31.3% @ Oak = 50.0% @ New York = 48.0% I'm not saying completion percentage determines the whole outcome, but obviously those are low and for them to win something else was a factor (Answer: Ray Lewis and Co.). And furthermore, if you re-read my posts, I'm not ga-ga over Flutie, I'm just saying to dismiss his influence on making the playoffs in any fashion is insane and ignorant. And I'm also saying that just because RJ had the team winning in the first quarter against any team in 98 before he got his brain smashed doesn't mean s**t and it's a worthless point that some people are ignorantly making. I'd much prefer to watch a 5'10 quarterback with a chip on his shoulder than a wanna-be gangsta surfing kid who broke the NFL sack record at the time FOR A QB. Call me crazy. To top that off, the Bills didn't have a #1 defense til the 1999 season, not 98, but either way it was nowhere near Baltimore's defense in 2000. Hope this helps!

A. The "team" was NOT winning when Flutie was NOT the quarterback. Note: A 3 point lead in the 1st quarter before RJ gets his mojo hurt doesn't count or sustain any leverage. B. The "team" DID win and win often when Flutie was IN at quarterback. Note: 23-11 Record of Flutie vs 6-10 RJ record. C. No one's saying Flutie ALONE did it, but he also wasn't some Trent Dilfer who just stood around and managed everything, Flutie made things happen when things weren't happening. He was a good improviser. Note: Immediate reaction to bootleg against Jacksonville. D. Granted Buffalo had a great defense, it alone didn't score points. Flutie and the offense had to do some of that believe it or not. Note: 23-11 record of Flutie at the helm. E. Neil Armstrong was the the first to walk on the moon, NASA just sent him there. But you stagnant RJ supporters would argue that NASA walked on the moon, not Neil Armstrong. Technically, for you specific imperative dorks, Armstrong walked on the moon for NASA. Just like Flutie quarterbacked the "team" that made the playoffs. In which RJ failed countless times to do. F. Just acknowledge it was an exciting time and Flutie was much more fun to watch than RJ. Because it's true just like the holocaust. Quarterback = the most important position on any football team. HOPE THIS HELPS!

No he wasn't the only contributor. But neither was the defense. That was my point. Re-read. Debate all you want, but the bottom line is, and maybe it's a conspiracy , but when Flutie played the team won A LOT more often than any other QB on the roster at the time. People want to pull him out because he's not Kurt Warner or Tom Brady, but newsflash! He was the best we had. I honestly believe you Flutie haters have severe cases of Tall-Man Syndrome. Well I would think that would be a great trait to have, competitiveness. On top of that, Flutie commanded respect from everyone including Thurman Thomas and Bruce Smith. I remember hearing how the defense would stay on the sidelines after a series to watch Flutie. No he wasn't a prototypical quarterback, which isn't hard to figure out with 175 lbs, he did his best when he didn't pass more than 25 times a game. With our runningback by committee approach at that time, it should have been easy for the Bills to manage. But in 1999, they had Flutie throwing the ball 30-40 times a game.

To sit here and debate whether or not he was a product of the system or "got by with a great defense" is like talking to a pile of bricks. RJ had his shot, he failed. Flutie got his shot and made something of it. If you want to get specific and detailed about it, Flutie did about 100,000 times better than RJ did. He was the best option for the team, yet, some fans have a bitter regard for the man. Maybe they have tall man syndrome or maybe they have delusionitis. Whatever the case for them may be, when push comes to shove and when pen hits paper, Flutie rocked RJ's world upside down. Hope this helps!
