  1. Except we are not going to trade Lynch. None of the rumors concerning his trade are coming from OBD. Just a bunch of senseless speculation.

I assume you are referring to the comments by Nix, but if you look at the thread on that you will see that taking anything a GM says at this point before the draft is foolish. He is not going to say they are desperate to move him when they are trying to hold on to what little leverage they have to get any real value for him.

  2. With all of the upgrades on paper that our division rivals are making, things are starting to look rough for the Bills this upcoming year. So lets say the Bills have an absolutely perfect draft (for argument's sake, in everyones opinion). And lets say they somehow fill all possible needs via draft and draft day trades. How do we finish this year in our division?

Its not that simple...an A+ draft doesnt mean those guys will reach their full potential their rookie years. Last years draft was easily and A considering we got 4 starters out of the first 5 picks, and Maybin looks like he will be a starter at a position much better suited for him this year. Add to it that Byrd is Pro Bowl potential and Nelson should be a much bigger factor in the passing game this year and it looks to be like an A+ on its own.

Now, if we go out and have another A+ draft, that doesnt mean that all of these guys in this draft will be starting day 1 or really show their impact early in the season.

So, even if we do have an A+ draft, that doesnt really mean we will see a huge difference in the standings this year. It will really set us up for a big 2011, especially if previous drafted young guys like Maybin, Hardy, Johnson, Nelson, and Brohm (not drafted by us, but was a 2nd rounder 2 years ago) can come in and make an impact this year to go with it.

  3. I hope we keep Lynch. I just don't think he will bring much in return compared to his value to this team, but if he is traded Brown would be worth a shot. Injuries would be a concern, but if the price is right,he may be a nice fit. If not,I would love to see the Buffalo take Brandon Minor in the later rounds.

Sounds like Brown could be had for a 4th or 5th according to that report. So if Lynch does go as speculated, then grabbing a guy like Brown with such a low pick would be worth the risk to me too. Especially since we already have Jackson to split the load with.

  4. Lynch and a sixth for Scheffler if Scheffler is considered an above average blocking TE. I'm not sure he is.

Do people even think about these trade ideas before they post them? I doubt it...how does this make sense for either team?

    1. Den - They already have Moreno, so what value are they getting here? A guy at a position they already have talent at and a 6th rounder for a pretty good TE?

    2. Buf - What value are we getting? We lose a guy who could fetch us a valuable pick in this draft like a 3rd or 2nd potentially or be good player for us if we keep him. What do we gain? An injury prone player at a position that we already have a very promising young guy at.

How does this make any sense for either team? Even if we didnt give them Lynch and instead just traded draft picks (which would make much more sense for Den), how does that help this team? We need those picks to fill holes, not to acquire average players at positions that already have young up and coming players at them. Scheffler is a decent recieving threat, but isnt dominant or a good blocker, not to mention injury prone. For me, Nelson has way more upside as a playmaker on this offense.

  5. I am normally a very optimistic person. Especially when it comes to the Bills. However, knowing how many holes need to be filled on this team, I am concerned. Can we fill some in the draft? Yes. Should the Bills make relatively cheap moves in FA to get veteran talent or do they carry on with the trend of signing guys from other teams practice squads?

Sorry, I just think that moves can be made. If we're hoping everything can be fixed via the draft.... sorry I'm not buying it. To me that means a couple more years out.

Here is what you are missing though, we dont TRULY know what holes need to be addressed as we already have young guys at some of the apparent holes you are referring to. We have too many young unproven players with potential to really understand what holes we have. Guys like Brohm, Hardy, Johnson, Maybin, Nelson, Bell, etc. So its not relying on only the draft, its also about developing our guys hopefully under a potentially better coaching staff and schemes.

And we are a couple of years out, but thats the point and thats the plan. With a new staff and FO they are going to need to find out whats already on this team before they can understand what moves need to be made. 2010 is the year to answer questions, not return to glory. Find out what we truly have in our young inexperienced guys, draft well, and start building this team to be a real contender over the next couple of seasons.

  6. I keep seeing all over the place people saying we need to trade Lynch for a 2nd round pick. Never going to happen. Santonio Holmes showed what the market will pay for trouble makers (and Holmes is WAY more proven than Lynch is), so the Bills would be wise to keep him on the team as a 2nd RB or be willing to part with him for nearly nothing.

I wouldnt call Holmes more proven than Lynch...

More importantly, why is anyone actually taking what GM's pubicly say with any seriousness? Look at some implications...

    1. If we want Spiller at #9, why would we tip our hand or show any desperation to trade Lynch? If someone else wants Spiller, then that puts pressure on them to trade ahead of us.

    2. If we are going to trade Lynch, we need to hold to what little leverage we can. Looking to dump him kills what little leverage we have in any negotiation considering he has had off field issues, wants out, and we already have Jackson.

    3. If we try and trade him and dont find a taker willing to give us enough value back to make sense, then we have to deal with him still being on the team. So of course our GM is still going to be saying things like this publicly in case we dont move him since we are not so desperate to get rid of him that we would just dump him for nothing.

I mean come on people, anything any team or GM says this close to the draft is about as reliable as a rumor that sites "sources deep within" on these boards...

  7. Except that they missed on their top pick, a gimme pick, a player that could have been a foundation for years to come.

How do you know he was a miss? He played one season where he held out and was behind from the get go. How do you know he wont excel this year with more weight and playing from a position much much more suited for his style and size? Anyone who calls Maybin a bust at this point is jumping the gun and a little bit foolish in my eyes, especially given the opportunity he will have this year.

And to call our draft slot a "gimme pick" is about the dumbest thing I have ever seen about any draft slot. No pick, not even the first pick, is ever a gimme pick. Many many times the CONSENSUS #1 overall pick, the slam dunk guy of the draft turns out to be a complete bust. That list is a mile long...

Buffalo grabbing 4 quality starters out of its first 5 picks is a tremendous draft, especially considering one of those looks potentially like a pro bowler (Byrd) and the one not yet a major impact (Maybin) still has a lots of potential especially in a new system that fits his game much better than what he was asked to do last year.

  8. I read that he was with the Chargers in '08 as well. And I don't mean to piss in Cheerios, but I'm just sick of talking about Evans, Lynch, Tebow and Clausen.

I've been reading about Nix, Pete Carroll, Holmgren and yes, even Al Davis. I saw SD drafting Buster Davis and Jacob Hester and it told me 2 things:

    1. Nix knows how to sell his guy in the war room; and

    2. Nix had a few misses on his resume.

Let's hope Whaley and Modrak are competent and compete better in the war room. I don't want to hear who Modrak wanted over the last few years. If he doesn't have the conviction to sell his guy, then what good is he??

Bill Walsh traded up to get JJ Stokes and took Jim Drunkenmiller as the heir apparent in SF...every GM, bad, solid, good, great, or legendary has more misses on his resume than hits...thats the nature of the game. What seperates the greats from weak are the ones who can find value in the draft every year. They will have more misses than hits, but its the qulaity of the hits that make them effective GM's...

  9. The Bills didn't sign Marshall...The Bills didn't Holmes...The Bills are gonna be last in the division...Nix is not doing anything...The sky is falling...I fell down the stairs and my shoes fell off. STFU already!!!!!!

I didn't know the 2010 season was over with already?! So if everyone was to determine how well teams would be, just by what a team has done in free agency, the Washington Redskins would have been multiple time Superbowl champions since Dan Snyder took over.

Here is what I wrote to the doom and gloomers in another thread...

Lets be a little more realistic here, its not nearly as bad as people want to make it out to be, and this upcoming year isnt about rediscovering the glory of the early 90's anyway, its about getting this team back in the right direction and building this team over the next year or two.

    1. We won 6 games last year DESPITE completely ATROCIOUS QB play, horrible play calling, horrible game plan, injury plagued young OL, injury depleted D, our best young play maker not playing the first part of the season (Byrd), and playing in a tough division. With a real QB last year we would have been playoff bound, not even a question, despite all the other issues.

    2. Mia still has major QB questions...lets hold off annoiting them a power until we see if Henne can make a big step this year. He is promising, but still isnt there yet.

    3. The goal for 2010 is not to get us to the SB, but to solidify the holes with some young talent that can develop this team into a real contender over the next couple of years. This year will be used to evaluate and develop our young guys like Hardy, Johnson, Nelson, Brohm, Bell, Maybin, as well as the guys we draft.

    4. We need to find out what we have in Brohm (assuming we dont trade for Campbell or Vick, two guys we have speculated interest in apparently) and this is the year to do it assuming he can win the job. We also need to find out what we have in Maybin, Hardy, and Johnson so we know what we need to address in next years draft.

    5. Our defense on paper already looks even better than last year.

For me, this team is heading in the right direction with the most important part being the emphasis and commitment to get these guys some playing time. Doesnt do any good to draft guys with lots of upside if we dont let them play and let them develop. I dont hold high expectations this year, but I do look forward to seeing what these guys can finally do in a game.

So all these people crying and mailing it in already for the season, what the heck were you really expecting in 2010? This is a new staff who is coming in and building their foundation, evaluating our young guys, and building through the draft, and I dont see anything wrong with that. I am actually excited to see how they develop over the season.

  11. Ronnie Brown...Found this below on rotoworld just now...I know he has had some injury issues, but we already have Fred, so adding Brown for a 4th or a 5th to compliment Fred seems like a way better option than using a high pick in this draft on a RB which we can use to fill a lot of more glaring holes on this team.

In an effort to accumulate draft picks, the Dolphins are reportedly open to trade talks involving almost every player on the roster.

According to a team source, "everyone is in play" as the Dolphins attempt to add picks in rounds two through five. Ted Ginn and Justin Smiley are openly on the trade block, and reports have surfaced that Ronnie Brown and Tyler Thigpen are also being shopped. Considering his contract situation and Lisfranc fracture, Brown isn't likely to fetch more than a mid-to-late round pick.

  12. No. Campbell won't go for anything in the top three because the Redskins have no leverage. I would be surprised if they keep him around at his salary to ride the bench. And they need picks. That extra 2nd rounder could be a scat back depending on what they do at 9. Or that extra 2nd could be a nose tackle or OLB. Or that extra 2nd could be packaged with their original 2nd rounder to get into the 1st round to grab a LT, NT or QB.

I was basing that on Buffalos speculated interest in Campbell and Was speculated asking price for Campbell...If you read what I wrote, I said a 2nd or 3rd...There is no way that Was moves Campbell for anything less than a third. Snyder doesnt care how much he is making as a backup, especially given Was is clearly pushing for a major run right now and having a proven and experienced backup like Campbell in their system isnt the worse thing for them.

Just like we most likely wont give Lynch away for a low pick because he still has more value to the team than that really low pick.

  13. I think the rest of the picks should be used on the lines. QB would have to wait until next year and the other skill positions would have to be filled via free agency. If we use the "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" philosophy, we ought to hit on at least 2 or 3 of picks 2-7.

Spiller at 9 would be followed by a trade of Lynch for hopefully a second rounder to someone like Sea. I would be ok with this, espescially with the depth in this draft. We are not going QB at #9 regardless IMO.

The other factor is this...The extra pick from trading Lynch may be one we use to acquire Campbell or Vick. If we got a 2nd for Lynch, the FO may turn around and trade a 2nd or 3rd to Was for Campbell.

Personally, I would prefer to keep our picks and build our lines too and see if Brohm can win the job and show us he can be the guy before we go after another QB. I think Vick and Campbell could both be intriguing under Gailey though, so I wouldnt be pissed if we acquired one of those two.

  14. Ah yes, "Pro Football Focus." All you need to know about this "ranking" is that Josh Reed is listed a couple spots above Evans, and that Donald Driver compiled 1,061 yards receiving with over 15 YPC avg, and he was ranked number

    70.! :ph34r::lol::(

Driver was 70, and Malcom Floyd with his whopping 45 catches and 700+ yards was ranked #7...seriously this thread should just be removed...

  15. You should have scrolled down to post #13. But since you didn't, here's what I replied with:

    The excuses reign...

I just posted this to see how many people would make excuses for Evans, because there are a lot of them out there. Now, is Evans really the #56 ranked receiver? Hell no, we all know he is better than that. The Bills have been a dysfunctional mess for most of the decade, which is any reason for any player on this team to be an underacheiver, regardless of their position. IMO, Evans is one of the best #2 WR's in the league, but as a #1 WR, he's not in the top 20. Evans lacks the size to outleap and outmuscle DB's and is unable to shake the double-teams. Evans needs a big physical WR to compliment him, hopefully Stevie Johnson or James Hardy can be that guy. Maybe with having an offensive minded coach (Gailey), he can put Evans & Parrish is better positions to succeed.

Well, this is not how you presented this thread or your comments in your original post. You also lost me the moment I opened the list and read Vincent Jackson as #1, Floyd #7, Reed ahead of Evans, Moss ranked something like 22...etc, etc. Clearly, this is the stupidest WR ranking list ever created.

You definitely didnt present this as if you thought Lee was ranked way higher than that or that the ranking was absurd, so you have to expect these kinds of responses. And no, I didnt read any posts really once I saw this absurd list and your original post.

You want to know what I love about his board? I love how all these posters use the O Line to make excuses for Trent, then many of those same people bash Evans who is literally about 10 times more talented and valuable to this team than Trent. So, Trent gets all these excuses like the O Line and coaching, but then they bash Lee for not being more productive and completely ignore the fact that our QB's have been ATROCIOUS during most of Lee's career. People forget that he was amongst the leaders in TD's his first few years in the league, that was until Trent took over full time and completely stalled Lees career.

So the talent challenged Trent gets a pass, but the immensly talented Lee doesnt even though my mother could have been a more effective QB for this team than what we have had the last 2 years.

PS: Its not an excuse when its fact! Fact is our QB's have been so bad that they have been embarrasing, thats not an excuse, thats a fact. Look at how pedestrian Moss looked in Oak with younger legs versus how unstoppable he was in Minn and NE...Look at Welker in Mia and Welker in NE...not even comparable...

  16. http://profootballfocus.com/by_position.ph...&numgames=1

So, what are the excuses for Lee going to be? No QB, No line, No Coach, No Shoes, No Glasses....

HAHAHA...this might be the dumbest list I have seen...I love how you put this up when this list has FIVE players ranked AHEAD of Fitzgerald and A. Johnson who are easily the two best recievers in all of football.

I LOVE that Malcolm Floyd is ranked #7 and Lee is #56 considering there isnt a GM or coach that would take Floyd over Evans. In fact, if we traded Lee for Floyd we would also be getting a good draft pick in return plus Floyd...What is even better, is that Floyd is freaking ranked 7 when I guarantee not a single GM would put him in the top 30 and he would have a tough time making the top 40 or so even

This list ranks right up there with Southgeorgiabills fan trying to convince people that Trent pwned Brady week 1 last year and one of the dumbest things I have seen on here...

I mean seriously, the list has Floyd ranked 7th...geezus, this board never ceases to amaze me...

  17. How about Jairus Byrd? We wasted that pick last year on a non-need position, we can trade him for a first rounder and then get another player where we have a greater need!

Are you serious? You are calling Byrd a wasted pick? Now I have seen it all...oh, and by the way, it was a position of need going into last year at that point...not a dire need, but Byrd was definitely a big upgrade.

  18. we had almost 1900 yards rushing last year so adding a left tackle and with both backs available all year we could get close to 2500 yards. its tough but if we show a commitment to the run its possible

First of all, our rushing attack wasnt bad last year, it was our passing attack. TO claim we will get another 700+ yards by trading for this guy is a little bit rediculous. The first thing I thought of when I read this post was this by Wil Ferrel as Ricky Bobby: "No one lives forever, no one. But with advances in modern science and my high level income, it's not crazy to think I can live to be 245, maybe 300. Heck, I just read in the newspaper that they put a pig heart in some guy from Russia. Do you know what that means?"

Second, where are all these people proclaiming Gaither to be so great getting their opinnions. I doubt all these bills posters seriously watched the guy play, even if they watched Ravens games, I find it hard to believe all these people begging for Gaither ever even noticed him in a game. Some maybe, but not all these people in all these Gaither threads.

There is a reason he is available, if he was the second coming of Jonathon Ogden like some here seem to prop him up as, I seriously doubt the Ravens would be so quick to dump him for a second round pick. Especially since Oher struggled at times at LT last year.

He is available because the Ravens are tired of his lack of motivation...well if we trade for him we are going to have to pay him too...Sounds a lot like Peters who played at a high level until we gave him a big raise. Then he just dogged it, had down years, then wanted more money which he eventually got in Phi and then was a liability on that line.

I am all for grabbing a up and coming young tackle like him, but he is no sure thing and I dont think we should give up too much for him like some people here talking about a first rounder.

  19. I guess they have written off this year, the guy flat sucks. I am praying this is nothing but pre draft posturing to get teams to think they dont' want a QB they are really after.

Otherwise this team is playing for the 1st overall pick next year.

You get dumber with every post I swear...

  20. I dont think the video is too degrading to the Bills at all. In fact, its complimentary. Mortenson said good things about Nix and Gailey too.

Yeah, totally agree...I dont think any of these posters watched the video...what exactly did he do or say that was so bad or wrong? Everyone just has sand in their azz because its Mort. Seriously, calm down, he said nothing really bad or that wasnt really true.

  21. What do you want? Raven's GM Ozzie Newsome announces...

Of course it is speculation based on various sources etc. etc. etc.

Here's a Baltimore Sun blurb mentioning his availability for a #2.

I could find you 50 similar blurbs. Will that change your mind? Probably not because your mind is already made up.

My point is, no one really knows if he is available for a 2nd, yet posters here are piling on the FO for not acquiring him yet. If he is out there for a 2nd right now, then why havent the other tackle needy teams made the move? If he can be had for a second I am sure the FO is fully aware of that, probably has already inquired, and is exploring all kinds of options right now. We dont need 20 threads on how we havent gone after Gaither yet when no one knows if we have or not.

The side factor here is that the FO was trying to use our 2nd to get McNabb which they all ignore in bashing our FO in all these threads about not getting this guy yet. Of course no one seems to be taking that into consideration.

Now the FO is considering getting Campbell too according to reports, so who knows what kind of compensation they are considering there.

  22. From what I have found online, he is the starting LT for Ravens and a Restricted FA with a 1st and 3rd round tender. The Ravens are already preparing to lose the guy and most believe that he can be had for a 2nd round pick. The guy is also 24 years old.

So, a proven starter at LT for a 2nd round pick? Why are we not all over this? Right now, the majority of people want a LT with our 1st pick, why not get a proven guy with our second over a rookie in the first. Then, we could trade down, up, whatever we want. Hell, we could get Eric Berry, have a kick ass secondary and get Cam Thomas in the 3rd.

Does anyone know if the Bills have even looked at this guy? What am I missing?

Can someone please show me where the Ravens will take a 2nd for him? There has not been a single report ever stating the Ravens want a 2nd round pick, it has been just pure speculation and assumptions that we can get him for a 2nd. It will currently take a 1st and a 3rd, and teams who put that level of restriction usually do so because they want to find a way to keep him.

Secondly, how does anyone know that the Bills havent called about him already and were told it would take at least a first or the full 1st and a 3rd?

I love how if we dont hear about it in the news, which we wont hear about 85% of what teams discuss (especially no name players like him in terms of fame) it is just assumed no one has inquired. I mean can anyone honestly think that the Bills (or other teams needing a OT) wouldnt have at least inquired about him if he truly is currently available for a 2nd and was that good?

Also, if he can be so easily had for a 2nd right now why havent the other teams in need of OT traded for him yet so they can save their top 10 pick in the draft for another position? KC, Sea, Oak, TB, etc could all use OT...not to mention all the other teams around the league...Its either becuase he isnt available for a 2nd at this time or teams dont think he is worth that high of a pick given the contract he will command too.

  23. Dude, his team just traded him to a division rival. Get the feeling that even THEY don't think all that much of him?

Yet fans here like you still think he is this great qb. He was great in 2004, and he was a very good qb before that year. But since then he has been an above average qb that continues to get adoration as if he were still a top five guy. He's not. He's overrated and the Bills are much better for him not wanting to come here.

I would much rather have the unknown rookie qb in Clausen, then the known close to a has been and who never won the big one even when he was good in McNabb.

One, you just ignored the facts that he has had NO talent to work with...none...yet made 5 NFC Championships and one SB.

You also ignorantly ignore the business facts of the situation...they WILL 100% lose either Kolb or McNabb after 2010 for ZERO compensation as both contracts are up and both want to start. They had to decide now to invest in Kolb who they believe to be the heir apparent or lose him and keep McNabb another few years.

You also ignore, that Reid diligently wanted to keep McNabb but the FO decided to make a decision for youth. Reid is the guy who has to go out and win games and he still feels that McNabb is his guy. But the FO also believes in Kolb and feels they have to make a move for the future now or risk losing Kolb next year for good.

You also completely disregard why the Eagles traded him to the Skins, which was in appreciation of McNabb to give him what he wants. They had plenty of trading partners with plenty to offer, but they allowed him to go to the Skins because they wanted to accomodate him as much as they could.

But you keep your simpleton point of view that it wasnt about losing one of them next season for no compensation...
