  1. THANKS FOR NOT DRAFTING SAMMY!

Though if they had drafted him then the Bills probably still would have gotten a pretty good Tight End and kept their 1st round pick next year -- which with Kiko missing the year may end up higher than it would have been. So there really are no winners.

  2. For years the defense of the name was basically people talking about how their best friend the Native American didn't care about the name and said most Native Americans don't care about the name.

Now since the ad aired during the NBA Finals there is conclusive evidence from one of the biggest Native American organizations that many many Native Americans do care about the name very much.

And now it's been changed to bull **** "Freedom!" or "It's not that offensive!" or my favorite "Fix everything else that is remotely offensive in society and then come back and talk about the name." arguments.

I wish people would just say they don't care about Native Americans or what they want. At least that would be honest.

  3. So another team could change its name to the Redskins and there's nothing Washington can do about it. Or even all other 31 teams. Redskins @ Redskins (every game)

Not exactly what the protestors wanted !

Not a chance in hell. What's more likely is there will be cheap unlicensed product with the team name on it and if Snyder wants to protect himself he'll change the name to something he can trademark.

  4. Interesting that you bring that up because with both Golisano and Pegula, when their intentions to bid were reported it was immediately coupled with or followed by stadium plans (Congel partnership for Golisano, Jacobs for Pegula). The Congel info was swatted down by Golisano afterward and not sure if Jacobs is directly tied to Pegula or if he is independent, but still notable that occurred as if maybe it has been told to the Bills and/or potential bidders that is necessary. It was reported that Jacobs/DN was in talks with at least one potential ownership group.

Yeah, I mean I know about the same as everybody else right now which isn't much, but I doubt the league wants the team sold to someone and then still have to deal with stadium stuff near the end of the current lease. Not saying a new owner needs to break ground the day they take over, but I could see the NFL approval being based somewhat on what will happen with the stadium.

  5. Yolo, I read the same tweet and listened to same reports and I don't get it either ? --- a lot of NFL stadiums are not owned or operated by the team's owner --- sometimes the team owner owns and/or operates the stadium, but in many cases it's neither --

(edit): BTW, if Pegula buys team, I don't believe he's under any obligation to have a specific new stadium plan to get approval, nor is any owner at this stage -- so, all of his could be worked out post-sale

The NFL has been vocal about the Bills needing a new stadium to stay. It's possible they will require a firm stadium plan to approve any ownership.

  6.

It's tough to hate Bryan Cox since his teams never really had any success against the Bills. He was like the heel in professional wrestling that is always antagonizing and talking trash but then gets his in the end to the satisfaction of all. He played this role to perfection.

Except for when he signed with the Patriots and won a Super Bowl.

I don't see this as political correctness run amok. Names matter. Labels matter.

My dad fought in WWII. His generation used words like "Kraut" and "Jap" to refer to their enemies. I fought in Desert Storm where many of our soldiers called our enemy, "rag-heads." It's easier to kill an enemy you have first demeaned. None of us wanted to kill "Mo" who had a wife and three children waiting for his return back in Baghdad, but we didn't mind killing rag-heads.

It's not just political correctness to avoid using works like "Sp*c," "N*gger," K*ke," "Go*k," "Redskin" and so on. The more we use pejorative labels (and, yes, many find the "Redskin" name pejorative), the more likely we are to mistreat the group so labelled.

Mexican farm workers used to be called, "migrant workers." Now the people in favor of deporting them label them, "illegal aliens." This is no accidental change of verbiage. It's hard to be in favor of deporting a family of migrant workers. It's much easier to get behind deporting illegal aliens.

A significant number of Americans feel the word "Redskin" is demeaning and racist. As such it promotes certain negative behaviors and mindsets in certain people. America becomes a better place for everyone when the pejorative labeling stops. Change the name!

Confucius observed: "A superior man, in regard to what he does not know, shows a cautious reserve. He knows if names be not correct, language is not in accordance with the truth of things. If language be not in accordance with the truth of things, affairs cannot be carried on to success... Therefore a superior man considers it necessary that the names he uses may be spoken appropriately."

This is such a good post.

  8. Interestingly, the ad itself states they never refer to themselves as, then they show the helmet but these quotes seem to indicate otherwise:

This, I think, hurts the validity of the ad some.

Is this a real post? Citing anecdotes from over 100 years hurts the validity of the ad today?

I'm shocked at how low people will go to justify something so ****ty.

  9. LOL, good point. Maybe if we lose the Bills to Canada, we can get a CFL team and finally get Tebow here to bring home a Championship (Ouch, did I just say that?)

Only if we can call the team either Rough Riders or Roughrighders. Otherwise what's even the point of having a CFL team?

  10.

I think Toronto would lose a great number of current seasons holders. But just over the border in Hamilton, I just don't know.

Just over the border in Hamilton? It's not exactly Fort Erie. It's about the same distance as it is to Rochester. For that matter Toronto is only another half hour so drive from Hamilton, so if Hamilton is no problem then not sure why Toronto would.
