  1. OK, so he is cut. There should really only be a period of a suspension, in reality. He was not arrested.

This is his livelihood. It is bad PR for him to be hired by someone, but seriously, it bothers me that some people think he should be cut off from working.

Nobody is preventing him from working. He can work anywhere that will hire him OTHER than the NFL. The world is his oyster. In fact, someone with his qualifications would have no trouble finding a top-flight job in either the food service or housekeeping industries.

  2. Whether he slapped her or punched her is ridiculous and doesn't matter.

    Did he hit her? Yes.

    On purpose? Yup.

    Is that ok? No.

Did he hit her hard enough that she fell and hit her head on a metal railing and was knocked unconscious? You betcha.

Is alcohol ever an excuse for violence? Nope!

In either video do we immediately see him on his phone to call an ambulance or showing really any concern whatsoever for her well-being? Nah.

Are these the actions of a piece of ****? Absolutely.

Does he have a right to continue to play in the NFL? Not at all.

  3. what goodell did was look at the last decade of punishment, and hand out a punishment in line with what the offense has previously gotten on a consistent basis. he then said this will no longer be the standard that we use.

it may now be the strictest policy on the books. is anything else mandatory 6 games first offense, and very rare have i ever heard the words lifetime ban used by the nfl?

It's not even a mandatory 6 game suspension.

    From Goodell's letter:

Effective immediately, violations of the Personal Conduct Policy regarding assault, battery, domestic violence or sexual assault that involve physical force will be subject to a suspension without pay of six games for a first offense, with consideration given to mitigating factors, as well as a longer suspension when circumstances warrant.

Which really means "Six games is the starting point, but if we decide she really had it coming we can lower it." It was a wishy-washy statement that meant nothing to get people to stop complaining about the suspension by making it seem like they were doing something. Based on this, the NFL could hand out another 2 games for the next first offense and still be following their Personal Conduct Policy.

  4. I would be cool with a one year suspension for the first offense and a ban from the league if it happens again. I think this is the new domestic violence law Goodell instated, and now he should go back and give Rice a full year suspension if he had any gonads.

I would be cool with him never wearing an NFL uniform again. Most employers would fire you on the spot if they had video evidence of you doing something that was illegal and/or made the company look bad. No second chances. He plays a child's game for ridiculous money. He can go away now. And if Goodell saw the video before he handed down the suspension then he can go away too.

  5. For the record: James Fenimore Cooper is considered one of early America's finest writers. If you ever take a class where you're required to read American classics, odds are pretty good you'll be assigned something he's written. He wrote The Prairie in 1822. Below is a quote from page 581:

    *******

But as little does he know of the temper of a Red-skin, who as seen but one Indian or one tribe, as he knows of the colour of feathers who has only looked upon a crow."

    *******

Consistent with that sentiment, The Prairie featured multiple tribes. The Pawnees were portrayed in an extremely favorable light; with their chief portrayed as a hero. Their enemies--the Sioux--were shown in a negative light. But it's not as though Cooper portrayed every Sioux as being bad. The reader got to know several members of the Sioux tribe; some of whom created a favorable impression. Others not so favorable.

Cooper clearly wanted his readers to root for the Pawnees in their war against the Sioux. And to admire the Pawnees' chief. The latter is described as physically perfect: well-muscled, athletic, handsome. Not once did the Pawnees' chief--Hardheart--flinch or show fear--not even when the Sioux were planning his execution. "Look at that noble Pawnee, Teton, and see what a Red-skin may become, who fears the Master of Life and follows his laws." (The "master" that Hardheart followed was not the Christian God--it was the Native Americans' great spirit.)

At least in the eyes of Cooper, the term "Red-skin" was descriptive, not pejorative.

Twain uses the n word a lot. Let's change the name to that.

  6. I disagree completely. Anyone with Kelly on the team has not only a shot, but a good shot in my opinion. Look at who the trustees are and their relationship with Kelly.

As to why Kelly would, one guess is he asked Pegula and Pegula said no. Or Kelly thinks Pegula would not be a good owner for the Bills. Only guesses of course.

Another wildcard is Golisano. He could hookup with them as well which would give this group more than enough bank to compete with Pegula.

    The permutations are endless :)

Regardless, this group would keep the Bills in Buffalo as well so all is still well.

Jim Kelly has endorsed pretty much every QB the Bills have had since he left. I don't trust his judgement whatsoever.

  7. According to a source Kryk reported in his most recent article that Toronto's plan was to relocate as soon as possible as recently as June.

    http://blogs.canoe.ca/krykslants/nfl/toronto-group-bidding-on-bills-rate-chances-as-slim-they-can-match-pegula-source-says/

Bon Jovi’s background investors are Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment chairman Larry Tanenbaum and the Rogers family that runs Canada’s largest telecom empire, both of Toronto.

Sun Media has reported that until some point in June, the group’s plan had been to relocate the team to Toronto at first opportunity.

    So there's that.

  8. Equally puzzled about the trusts' actions; if Pegula's bid is indeed that much higher, they should accept his bid and take the money and run -- he would be terrific choice and as Kirby points out, "checks all the boxes". I can't imagine the trust would prefer Trump, and I don't get the interest in Golisano, since he's stated since day one that he is a safety net for BUFFALO and not overly interested. Lastly, we all know the issues with JBJ. Let's just get this thing done, so we can move on already.

I have no idea, but I think It's possible they are accepting more bids just to make the process seem more legitimate. If the only real candidate going forward is Pegula it might make the whole thing look suspicious and put the trust into question. Adding at least one other bidder could make it more acceptable for Pegula to win.

Or maybe they just want to drive the price up.
