Ron Brooks to Start at CB
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to FutureBillsGM's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would like to see Brooks on Amendola, which is what I'm hoping they mean with him as #1. Brooks on the outside is a NIGHTMARE, but he's small and quick, and ot would seem that he matches up well on the small and quick Amendola. McKelvin and whoever is on the outside should be an average match against whoever the Pats put at WR and I can see Rodgers on Sudfield. -
Matt Flynn loses out to Pryor
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to prissythecat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Remember how people were talking about how we should take flynn for a draft pick? maybe should offer one for him now to be a backup...or wait for him to be cut. -
Stevie Johnson: Pats can't 'stop me'
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to Stevie's Johns0n's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
this does seem like the formula. if the pats are without gronk amendola is their biggest recieving threat and our safeties and nickel cb's have a good shot against him. burton is apparently good at jamming at the line of scrimmage. it actually seems as if the bills depleted outside corners actually match alright against the outside wrs of the pats. for years brady has done his best work over the middle with welker, gronk and and hernandez. -
Stevie Johnson: Pats can't 'stop me'

That sounds a bit more grassy knoll than I'd like to give credit for. But at this point, we've been waiting so long for the season to start any hype is something. -
Stevie Johnson: Pats can't 'stop me'
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to Stevie's Johns0n's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, why should Stevie say anything that would make the Patriots spend extra resources to shut him down! It's not like we have two incredibly fast receivers who can take the top of the defense and a running back who almost demands 8 men in the box. What will those three do if Stevie gets locked down? -
(Update) Jim Leonard back in Buffalo
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeesh, lotta hate on here. I can't say that the signing lights the world on fire for me, but if it means that Aaron Wilson (who looks at home at SS) can take a quick spell back at CB, I'm for it. He should go back the moment Gilmore is healthy, but considering the condition of our secondary, I don't think we're in the position to be picky. -
Bills to sign K Dan Carpenter
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Initial Reaction: "...what? You gotta be fu*ckin'" kidding me!" Modified Reaction: "...oh. So, we're likely to cut one of them once Hopkins is healed and we have a half decent option come Sunday. Carry on." -
EJ is going to practice today
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to Bangarang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know it's not certain, but I simply can't imagine a situation where Jeff Tuel is the only healthy QB on the roster. It sounds like an incredible amount of risk -
Bills roster cut down to 50 (-18 then -5 more)
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to zazie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have to be looking for a CB in the trade. I can see trying to catch a better guard from the castoffs, but the Bills were in dire straights for CB even before Gilmore as injured. Scott doesn't blow people away, but he's decent depth, and I would take that caliber of player at CB right now. Hell, they might even beat out McKelvin for number 2. -
Yeah, no. Look, if EJ isn't ready, let's sit this one back, take Game One in the teeth and come out swinging for game two. But if EJ is healthy, if the reports of "two weeks with physical therapy and he's ready with a week to practice" are true, then you start him Some dark part of me is hoping that Tuel is getting the tentative nod because they expect EJ to be back but want NE to expect nothing. Mostly because most people think it's a bad idea.

Manuel Update(Rumor)
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to Braedenstearns's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Coach, how is Mario's toe?!?" Thanks! I know it's just idle speculation, but the wait is killing us. -
You know, I don't know if it quite is overstating things. There's blood in the water and we all know it. Tom Brady did not look 100% last night. Most of his recievers from last year are gone or injured. We are playing a home game season opener, where (if EJ is starting) the Pats will have to gameplan for a QB they've barely seen. The fans will be going ballistic. Even if losing won't be the worst thing ever, it means that even in the worst adversity they've seen in years the Pats are still the better team than we are. Winning means that we get a win against a division leader, and those wins are vital if we even want to contend for a wild card..
-
Again, preseason, but I have to agree with you. Only a fool diminishes Tom Brady's skill, but there is a major drop of from "elite" receivers, "good" receivers and capable ones. The Bills have a lot of good recievers this year. Last year, the Pats had a lot of elite ones. Now... Toss in Brady reaching the final years of his career, I don't think they are going to be the dominant force of years past. Of course, knowing our luck...

I haven't heard any one solid report confirming it. Even the initial report seemed to hedge its bets and say, "man, there's no way the two sides weren't just playing hard ball, hittting the point of no return, with Byrd come back the instant that the risk:reward ratio swung back into his favor. They must hate each other. Therefore Byrd must be open to a trade" Of course, any player who wants to get paid more money, and is locked into a contract, would be open to getting paid more.

Defense needs a name

Look's like this name has some wings now. -
1) That's good to hear. From what has been said, he may very well be ready to go Week 1 if Kolb flakes during the next preseason games. 2) Agreed. This isn't just a game against New England. It's going to be a game against New England, played at home, without the Pats having any video on our full offense, and with Gronkowski likely out, that means that they will not be fielding any of their top five receiving targets from last year against a revitalized (we hope) Bills defense. This is suddenly looking like a winnable game, and if you take even one on the pats it's worth doing.

To be honest, my first thought was: "Well, what does that tell you about the draft?" But really, that's a pretty impressive assemblage of talent, much of which has underperformed or remains untapped or untried. To me, this is the big question. I think that, without a doubt, there are a great deal of talented players here. Unlike last preseason, they actually seem to be effective against other offenses. But the real question seems to be whether or not Pettine can bring everyone together. Even if we have a few disappointments, if the scheme works, this defense could be really nasty.
