If that is the case, how many alcohol-fueled events/shenanigans do you think Pacman had that his bodyguards were able to get him out of before police, and subsequently the media, were called? I'm sure there were plenty of times Jerry Jones gave tickets to certain people or cops to keep their mouths shut.

If by the desert you mean Vegas, I don't think the NFL would think about Vegas for even a split second. Vegas has always been hands off to all sports leagues, until the NBA all star game last year. Even then, do you remember all the violence and arrests that happened? All of Pacman's beef went down that weekend too. Vegas would be way to much of a headache for any league, let alone owner, and I don't think a tough guy like Goodell would even give an idea like that the light of day.

You guys ever notice that Forbes just doesn't like Buffalo? Also, they don't know anything about the stadium, nor have they probably ever attended a game at the Ralph, or the Rogers center by that matter. They keep calling the stadium "outdated" (I keep hearing this all over), but have these "authorities" ever visited the Ralph? I've been to about 6 different NFL stadiums and I have to say, if I knew nothing about football or stadiums I would guess that the Ralph was one of the newest. Erie County drops like what, 5 mil a year or something into stadium improvements, and lets the Bills take all the gate from a stadium they dont own? What other sports team has this kinda stuff? They just put in that sick new scoreboard, have the ribbon one around the bowl, and lets not forget all the improvements they made (ie jim kelly club, new suites) about 8 years ago. I've brought plenty of out of town friends to games, and every time they compliment how nice the stadium is compared to what they hear. On top of that, the Rogers is "spiffier?" Sure it was nice when it opened as the skydome 25 years ago, but now its a dump. Spiffier, give me abreak. I'm sick of the pile on buffalo mentality, but i guess that's not going to change anytime soon. should we mass email forbes or something?

Yeah but it might also stop potential owners that want to keep the team here from buying the team too. The only way I see a team staying here is if they get a massive loan. Now this probably means that super rich guys that have the cash assets will buy the team IMO.

I don't think they're ready to give up on him yet. The guy still had 50 catches, 500 yards and 4 TDs in his second season battling injuries and missing some games. He's played less than 30 games, so I don't think that SF is ready to give up on him yet, and if they are, it couldn't be for less than a 2nd or maybe multiple picks. I would take the guy in a second, but I don't think he's on the table.

I've heard plenty of articles that say he is the 3rd highest paid guy in the league, but there are others that say that Marvin Harrison is ahead of him by a half mil. That makes him the 4th highest paid receiver in the league. By the end of the offseason, lee won't be in the top 5, let alone top 8. Remember, Roy Williams is a free agent at the end of the year, and the dude will almost certainly make more than Evans. Hoosh in Cinci is older, so he probably wont get a top deal, but I wouldn't be surprised if he got something comparable to Lee, maybe a little less but for the same years. TO is also going to be a 34 year old free agent - probably get a Moss deal of 9 mil for 1 2 or 3 years. This is just the nature of the game. Bernard Berrian, with numbers a lot crappier than Lee Evans, got a 7 year 49 mil deal. He set the bar for the explosion in WR contracts last spring. And can anybody say what the guy has done for Minnesota this year? Absolutely nothing. Donte Stallworth signed for 5 years 25 mil, and he has shown to be nothing more than an average number two. D.J Hackett got a 2 year 7 mil deal - the guy is no more than a 3rd stringer. What should his market value be then? He can't get under 7 mil - that would be a slap in his face if Berrian is making that money now. Lee was only one of a few elite WR on the market in the upcoming offseason, and those guys get a ridiculous amount of money thrown at them. If he had become a free agent- he would have received 9 mil or more - but for AT LEAST 6-7 years. We got a deal. You can't discount the number of years in the contract - 4 years. It saved us a lot of money to not sign the guy for 7 years....those contracts usually never last, unless you are a perennial pro bowler. After 4 years, Lee will be 31, and there is no telling what the future holds - he could break down like Moulds or he could still be in his prime. You never know. We minimized the risk of having him under contract for only 4 more years. After that, we could probably sign him for under market value at that time - which certainly will be more than 9 mil a year - making this contract a lot more advantageous. Let me compare this to Reggie Wayne. Back in Feb of 2006, he signed a 6 year 39 mil contract - 3rd highest paid receiver in the league at the time. A lot of people thought that was wayyy to much, and that he was just riding Marvin's coat-tails. There's no complaining about that contract now. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised that once Marvin leaves, Reggie will be clamoring for a new contract to put him in line with the top receivers. It might take a year or two, or it might just take until March 2009, but a lot of people will realize how much of a bargain this deal is.

The foreskins are looking to get a new stadium. Yes, they built one in 1998, but it is in Maryland, not in the district. The Nationals just built a park down in Anacostia, and Synder has had preliminary discussions with city officials about building one in the district. I went to the stadium for the bills preseason game, and I have to say, I was not impressed. I thought the stadium was a dump for something that is less than 10 years old. Moreover, they have seats behind large concrete pillars, PILLARS people! They call them "obstructed view seating" right on the tickets. I thought they did away with this stuff in the 1940s and 50s. The stadium was built before Snyder bought the team, and even though they have the best revenue streams bar none in the NFL (Cowboys will pass them with their new stadium), Snyder still wants to milk as much money out of stadium revenue as possible. I also know FedEx field also gets labeled as the worst fan friendly stadium consistently almost every year. Hence, new stadium talks.

Yeah I get what you're saying. I think that is why the policy is in the hands of Goodell, where it's not necessarily one size fits all, but more of a case by case basis.

$100,000 was just an example. And as I clearly said, that money like this is a drop in the bucket for Jones. Make the penalty stiff enough where it would discourage owners from taking chances on these players. Draft picks also sounds like a good idea. And in case you didn't read the articles, they said the trip was already planned beforehand to talk about the CBA, and Goodell looked suprised when reporters told him. His visit had nothing to do with Pacman, since the incident occurred only about 6-8 hours before his arrival.

If the NFL really wants to crack down on players doing crap like this, owners must also be held accountable. Everytime a player gets fined or suspended for violating the personal conduct policy, the owner should also face the wrath of the commish. I don't think Pacman will get suspended, because it seems Goodell likes to slob on the Cowboys star too much. But imagine if he does get suspended, and the NFL levies a 100,000 fine on Jerry Jones. And if Jones knew that such a penalty would have occurred in August, do you think he would have still taken a chance on the kid? Maybe (with all the money he's throwing around), but maybe not. Maybe you can also fine a GM - its not like the GM has owner money, and such a fine would impact his decisions and financial landscape much more than it would an owner. In Jerry Jones case, it should be double (since he is both GM and owner). I don't see how a policy like this would be much different than Kraft getting fined for the actions of Bellicheat. Until owners or general managers are also held responsible for the actions of the players that they take, they will keep picking up these players in their paternalistic and egotistical fashion, thinking they are the ones, the ONLY ones, that can treat turn the deadbeats around.

God, that game. Anyone remember how great Clemens was in that game? Fumbled a punt return but then returned a pick for six? Completely redeemed himself on that play. But yeah, I ended up hating Lindell for that kick too, and I have to say, I still do. Now I know that might be seen as irrational, especially with Lindell and that streak inside the 40, but I don't think I can forgive the guy for that miss, no matter how much time passes. Every time he lines up, I think back to that kick, and get nervous. I'm still uncertain if he can make a 40 plus field goal in crunch time (proven wrong in Wash last year but I still don't like him). I need to see him hit a game-winning playoff kick before he's great in my book. I know, I know, completely irrational, but still....he shoulda made that F'N kick!

Steely Dan you seem to LOVE to take things out of context. In my entire post, I wrote how I believe Schobel is a good Defensive End, and that what he does for this team is more than just the stupid measure of sacks. Moving on from that, I mentioned that who in their right mind wouldn't take 7 mil a year. He might (emphasis on MIGHT) been offered more on the open market, but I can't imagine much more than 7 mil a year. It was right in front of him, a long term contract, and I'm sure he preferred the insurance of having the money than playing out his contract and risking injury before free agency (or having a poor statistical season). I don't see how you could say (or guess) how Schobel took less money in this situation to stay in Buffalo. What I was saying in my post before you totally FRAMED my argument (must be election season) is that I don't think he is happy to be in Buffalo. I think it came down to money, and he would probably have been happier to leave. I feel that if the relationship ends with Schobel early, he might take cheap shots on the Buffalo organization out the door, a la Miro Satan. But of course, it seems that having a discussion with you is like talking to a brick wall.

ESPN.com says he had 10 total tackles last year. So I guess it was more than 5 plays, but I still don't remember him playing all that much in a "rotation." I also remember Schobel and Kelsay playing almost every snap in the first 8 games. Too bad they don't keep those kind of stats.

Yes I remember, but I would hardly call it a "rotation." I watched every game last year, and I don't remember him on the field for more than 5 plays. Could be wrong of course.

I like Schobel. He's a high motored guy, usually pretty good against the run, and when he's hot, he's hot. Last year, him and Kelsay played almost every snap of the first eight games because we didn't have any backups. His stats were low for a reason. And just because he isn't getting sacks doesn't necessarily mean he's not getting pressure. That being said, I don't think I would put Schobel up there in the top 5 DE category; I don't know if you could put him in the top 7. The top guys consistently get pressure on the quarterback game in and game out. With Schobel, it is a lot of streakiness in his game. I consider him more of a Phil Hansen guy, but obviously better. I've been saying for years that I think the Bills need that crazy, big and nasty compliment to Schobel that terrorizes quarterbacks and allows him to not be doubleteamed. Granted, you have to give a lot of credit to the guy for being the only name on that line the last couple of years. My other criticism of Schobel is leadership. There's a reason why Chris Kelsay is a captain and Schobel is not. You can pass it off that Schobel is a soft spoken guy, but you expect the guy that was the highest paid player on your team (that goes to Lee now) to at least take some sort of leadership role. I've never once (correct me if I'm wrong) heard Schobel shoulder any blame in one game over the past eight years. What I do hear is jaded talk and a defensive attitude about his play. I'm not quite sold on the fact that the other players on the defense like the guy too much. I think sometimes he can take a petulant childish attitude towards the game. I'm not sold on the fact that he wants to be in Buffalo either (other than the fact that he's making 7 mil a year (who would turn that down). He's seen so many tough years, I wouldn't blame the guy. I wouldn't be suprised that when the two sides do (if they do) part ways, Schobel might take some cheap shots out the door (a la Miro Satan).
