  1. All excellent observations. Congratulations to one and all. One of the best threads I've read all season. I'm proud to be a member of TBD and a fan of the Bills since their inception. Now it's time to turn my focus to the Sabres.
  2. +1 -- one of the few threads I've read all the way through.
  3. Very eloquent and ever-so clever. However, it doesn't address the fact that the local fans didn't sell out the stadium. You'd think the game was in Jacksonville or something.
  4. The fact that a local businessman had to fork over the money for 7,000 to 8,000 seats that local fans wouldn't buy tells the world a lot about the "dedication" of Bills fans. Consider: It's a holiday weekend, it's the last home game of the season and it's a game against (arguably) the best team in the league. Yet it wasn't a sellout until a businessman decided to buy one of every 10 seats in the stadium. Way to go Buffalo.
  5. Actually, I'd love to see Fitz get 30 TD passes to see if Sully will live up to his boast to run down Elmwood in his skivvies. Yeah, I know it's unlikely that Fitz will hit 30 but I'd still love to see it happen.
  6. I see -- he gets his information from a wide variety of drunks. Now everything makes perfect sense.
  7. Someone started a thread earlier with a link to the photo. And, no, I didn't click on the link. But giving the matter all the thought it deserves (about 0.3 nanoseconds), should anyone be surprised? After all his name is Johnson.
  8. I'm sure his son, the offensive coordinator, thinks he's a genius. Especially for getting rid of a perfectly decent QB that he didn't like. Yeah -- I swear I saw this thread in the morning.
  9. Agreed, they were all challenging kicks. That's not at issue. But it seems that 50-yard kicks are not that uncommon in the NFL these days. You'd think the law of probability would have given the fins at least one field goal.
  10. Before the season started, I thought the Bills were good for 6 to 8 wins (8 if they caught a break). But I have to admit, by the time they hit 0-8,I thought they'd be lucky to squeak out 2 wins.
  11. Didn't realize the fins' kicker was 0 for 4 until the end of the game. I'm sure glad he picked today to stink up S. Fla.
  12. Some thoughts from the Washington Post on the owner's impact on the 'Skins: "In the last eight years the Redskins have traded away 22 draft picks for high-priced free agents, most of whom were busts." It's hard to overstate the reverberating effects of those lost drafts, and the pressure they still create today, on the field. The Redskins have pressing needs at offensive line, defensive line, linebacker, secondary, wide receiver and running back. Name another team in the NFL with that many downright needs. And they have exactly seven draft picks." "As this so-called rebuilding season wears on, it becomes more apparent each day just how much damage owner Dan Snyder and his playmate Vinny Cerrato truly did with their Toys R Us buying sprees." However, the columnis inexplicably goes on to polish Shanahan's knob by saying what a wonderful evaluator of talent he is.
  13. However, they cut their losses as soon as they realized their mistake.
  14. Yes he does. The other week, Sully asked Fitz if he would join Sully if he got the 30 TD passes. Fitz said no way. Here's the link to Sully's blog: http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sully_on_sports/2010/11/fitz-out-of-the-running.html
  15. I wasn't defending Shanahan nor his management techniques. The column I mentioned pointed out (correctly) that the 'Skins problems began percolating a decade ago when Danny Snyder and his "fantasy league" mentality took over the team. I was saying that Shanahan used Fat Albert (who was wooed by Snyder) to make a point, and that point was for Snyder to stay out of personnel decisions. (It didn't hurt that Fat Albert was totally unmotivated after signing that obscene contract.) If that is the case, then I comment Shanahan for having a big set of stones to tell the owner to butt out. That said, I hope the Skins suck till the end of time.
  16. It took an awful long time to make your point, but I gather that you think the Bills MUST draft Cam Newton, otherwise the team will wallow in mediocrity until the end of time. I'm curious. Why? Please offer some statistical reason, or sound logic. Saying that Bills fans don't want Cam Newton because he's not "Irish Catholic" is not a compelling reason. And it's insulting. Also, "elephant in the room" is an English idiom for an obvious truth that is being ignored or goes unaddressed. It is based on the idea that an elephant in a room would be impossible to overlook; thus, people in the room who pretend the elephant is not there have made a choice to concern themselves with tangential or small and irrelevant issues rather than deal with the looming big one. A "white elephant" is an idiom for a valuable possession which its owner cannot dispose of and whose cost (particularly upkeep) is out of proportion to the possession's usefulness or worth.A burdensome possession; creating more trouble than it is worth. Since Cam Newton is not yet a "possession" of the Bills, he can't be the "big white elephant in the room." Just saying.
  17. The 'Skins decade of mediocrity can be traced directly to the owner. This column (link below) does a good job of describing how the owner and his "Toys R Us" mentality has damaged the team: "In the last eight years the Redskins have traded away 22 draft picks for high-priced free agents, most of whom were busts." (in an tangential matter, I wish the Post has columnists as good as this, instead of Sully.) In Shanahan's defense, however, I've come to the conclusion that the nearly season-long melodrama between Shanahan and Fat Albert Haynesworth really was not about Fat Albert. Rather, it was Shanahan's way of telling Danny Snyder to keep his nose out of personnel decisions. If that's the case, then I have to give props to Shanahan for giving a big F-you to the owner. WaPo column
  18. Just heard on the NFL Network that the Metrodome roof collapsed under 17 inches of snow. You'd think that a city up there would have a roof that could deal with more than 17 inches. It's not Houston, for pete's sake.
  19. No freaking way, but thanks for thinking of me.
  20. It's all image -- and Buffalo has an incredibly lousy rep when it comes to winter. Not that winter in Buffalo is without its challenges, but jeez, give us a break for Pete's sake.
  21. I've got a lot of Pats fans as Facebook friends. They're insufferable.
  22. About 7 or 8 years ago I was in Minneapolis for a conference. After one of the sessions, I stopped at the hotel bar for a burger and beer. The barmaid asked me where I was from and I said that I'm from the Washington DC area, but originally came from the Buffalo area. She said, with a totally straight face, "Oh it gets cold there." My jaw dropped when she said that.
