  1. It'll be curious to see if the depth-chart changes now. I get the impression that Trent practices very well but, at least since his concussion, doesn't play that well in actual game situations. I will say that it looks like Chan has been working with him a bit. He doesn't look as scared in the pocket and his delivery looks better (so did Fitz', for that matter). But I will be very interested to see Brohm play. I suspect he'll get a nice, long look in the next game.
  2. Yep, that's what I thought. QB sneak time. I mean, come on, it's the preseason for crying out loud. I thought for sure that Chan would go for it. Maybe there's some league-wide "book" like the 2-point conversion one that tells you when to go for it or not (though I still wouldn't have pegged him as a "by-the-book" kind of guy).
  3. There's also the T, the power I, Wishbone, Flexbone, Wing T, full house, etc.
  4. Honestly, as good as Marty was, he never won a Super Bowl and he had a maddening habit of tanking in the playoffs. The jury's still out on Nix, but, so far, I'm liking what I'm seeing out of Gailey. As for Shatz' comments, he lost me when he started talking about how out-of-position everyone on D was going to be playing in the 3-4. I think they were all out-of-position in the 4-3, to be honest. It almost seemed like the Bills kept picking up people better suited to the 3-4 and sticking them into the 4-3. JMO.
  5. Well, right or wrong, it was a welcome change from what everyone else is picking. Win or lose, I'm just hoping the Bills aren't as boring this year. Hopefully with Gailey's attitude they will at least be interesting and will play some tough football.
  6. Um, everyone signs when they come to mutually agreeable terms. That's the point of a contract.
  7. Yeah. I don't know about all these other dudes in this thread, but I just don't get tired of watching Spiller run. That one play against BC where he caught a pass near sidelines, surrounded by BC players, and somehow deked his way out for a TD was just unreal.
  8. Kelsay from the D&C article: "Coach Gailey and his staff bring more of a disciplinary feel to the entire atmosphere around the organization, and I think that's what we need." The jury's still out on Nix (still worried about tackles on the O-line), but I think Gailey's got the right attitude. The more I hear about how he runs things, the more I like him. I just hope it turns into some excitement on the field.
  9. And he made the Pro Bowl, tying for the league lead in INTs. Could a healthy (and non-rookie) Byrd actually be better? Scary thought for opposing QBs, IMO.
  10. I honestly don't remember who I traded for them, but it wasn't anyone of consequence. Recall that in '06 both were backups.
  11. So in hindsight it seems like the Bills might have been headed in the right direction until Marv and Dick(less) showed up.
  12. After four years I finally got around to buying EA Sports' NFL Head Coach (the original, not the updated one). I took the Bills job, drafted Ngata instead of L'il Donte, traded for Phillip Rivers and Michael Turner, picked up Roman Phifer, Dan Neil, Givens, Gbaja-Biamila, Chris Simms, and re-signed Clements, Sam Adams, and a few others. Switched to the 3-4 on D and got Roscoe more involved. Won all 4 pre-season games and last night had this beauty: Bills 21, Patriots 0 (in Foxboro) Brady's QB rating was 19.8 (Rivers' was well over 100). Roscoe caught 2 TDs including a 70+ yard bomb. McGahee had a 72 yard TD run. The D had 3 INTs and several sacks. Bills O-line gave up only one sack. Pats had a tad over 100 yards in the air and less than 40 on the ground. So, the conclusion is that the Bills should have hired me instead of Dick(less) Jauron in '06. Oh, and my starting fullback is Kevin Everett.
  13. We always have a tough schedule. We play the Pats twice a year. This is a legitimate concern, but with the discipline Gailey brings, I have confidence it won't be as big a problem. This happens every year. Does the name Pat Williams ring a bell? Reed hurts more than TO, but Johnson might be able to fill his (Reed's) shoes. Again, this happens every year - and we still somehow manage to win 6-7 games. Plus, the NFL these days has become a league dominated by younger talent. Rookies are having a greater impact than they used to. Again, this happens every year. Gailey is the OC. How is he inexperienced? George Edwards is the DC, a job he's held before with the Redskins. Could be, but a number of guys have said they feel more comfortable in the 3-4 so far. I think the 3-4 is easier to adjust to than the 4-3 because it has much more flexibility. We led the league or were a close second in players on IR every year under Jauron so, again, how could things actually get worse? Our point is that most of these things have already happened - simultaneously - and we still won 6-7 games under Jauron.
  14. Been sayin' it for weeks. If Jauron can consistently win 7 games with this team, how can they not be better with Gailey?
  15. Guess that's a good thing, eh? I'm not sure how we feel about zombies on this board...
  16. Wait. The Rams are listed at 32 but it also lists their change as +1. How is that possible? Nevermind. Still, there's no way the Raiders under Tom Cable are better than the Bills under Chan Gailey.
  17. As bad as the Bills are, I refuse to believe they are worse than the Raiders and Chiefs. The Raiders are truly incompetent.
  18. Born in Buffalo in '74 Grew up in East Aurora Graduated from Canisius HS and U. of Buffalo Spent four years in the DC-area Have lived in Maine ever since, but have always commuted out of state for work - three years to Boston, and now going on seven years to New Hampshire
  19. You'd be surprised how many people think that getting paid to do your job suddenly takes away your objectivity. Someone essentially accused me of not being objective in a report I wrote because I was a "paid" consultant. So I asked them if they did their job for free.
  20. Yeah, but it implied he was a waste of a pick which I disagree with. If Adrian Peterson hadn't come into the league the same year, Lynch could have made a run at rookie-of-the-year. He was arguably the second-best rookie that year. His production tailed off last year partly because he's a bonehead, partly because Fred Jackson proved his worth, and partly because the entire offense was a complete and utter mess last year.
  21. Oh, and I'm willing to give Edwards another shot with Gailey grooming him. If you watch the game film closely, he had much better pocket presence prior to the blind-side hit in the Cards game in '08. He had his feet firmly planted and seemed to ignore everything around him. When he played that way, he played quite well, actually. Since the hit, he bounces too much in the pocket which tells me he's nervous about another hit. If Gailey can give him back his confidence, I think he'll be an excellent QB. If not, I honestly think he'd be better off out of football.
  22. Well, Kelly was clearly one of them since we did draft him even though he took off for the USFL for three years. I'm guessing the other is Joe Ferguson? If I recall we didn't draft Jack Kemp.
