Ultimately people have lessons from parents, siblings, peers, religion. A lot of things. To the extent that most of us have a guy on our shoulder that knows what is right or what isn't right. Most of us don't ever think of hurting people for no reason. Those that do and do so for political reasons aren't representing anybody's political beliefs. No morally decent person condones this stuff. I hate how all this stuff is just political ammunition at this point as it just increases the already big divide, but that's just the nature of internet with no accountability for what is said.

I'm trying extra hard here given the gravity of the situation. It's also rare that @Royale with Cheese shows up here.

I know how lucky I am. I'm the exception, not the rule. The change starts within. I knew the environment I grew up in wasn't right and I did whatever I had to to break that cycle. I wish people knew how powerful they really are.

Do you feel your own personal experiences are reflective of all people? I'm glad you tuned out ok. That doesn't mean the probability that you did is as high as somebody who had a more conventional upbringing. I can call out things I have done that very few people have. Should I expect they all should be able to do so?

1. Good for you for overcoming and getting out of that BS. Well done, man. 2. You and I agree on violent crime. But we disagree on whether addressing underlying issues can reduce nonviolent crime. Addiction, poverty combined with stupidity, and sometimes just bad hands in life lead to things like petit larceny, CPSPs, drug charges, etc. Those can be stopped before they get worse and mature into more significant criminal activity.

I'm happy you made a good life for yourself. Statistics are pretty conclusive you had a higher likelihood than other people to not turn out ok. Does that mean they shouldn't be held accountable? Not all. Does that mean we should throw away a clear statistical pattern when trying to understand our environment? I hope not.

I was abused by both parents. Knives were used in fights inside my house and there 3 times family members had to go to the ER for treatment. We have had to lie to CPS. Im not a scumbag and I had a rough environment. No violent crimes in my past.
