PTR Or we'd hear about what poor financial planning the investment was in the first place and how it's all because our scouts suck, our coaches don't know their own talent, and the FO just wants to GIVE away money. Even if they have a bad season they still are hailed as a pro-bowl player. Sounds like a player from last year, but I forget his name... If we make that analogy to coaches and team personal decisions. The Patsy's just get the benefit of the doubt. We just have to prove people wrong. For a team that was once built through the draft, their picks have been slacking lately. Brandon Merriweather is a starter, and his stat line is run-of-the-mill for a starting safety. Maroney got beat out by Sammy Morris. Chad Jackson got cut. Wheatly is a backup. Well, Garrett Mills was marginal enough to be put on the practice squad, claimed by the Vikings, and put together seven receptions in three years. So I'm guessing he wouldn't stand out on the Bills either. But I mean, I'm not looking for the Pats to start going 7-9 or anything in the near future, but they're going to live and die by the same corps they have all the way through: Brady, Wilfork, Seymour, and the line. As they start aging and acquiring more injuries, it's not clear the replacements have arrived, and the Pats may fall back into the pack with 9-12 win seasons. PTR As good as Watson is, he isn't a pro bowler and NE has plenty of top talent elsewhere in their roster who deserve a larger piece of their salary cap than does Watson. On the other hand, our roster is bereft of top talent and we just let one of the few legit top 5 in the league guys we have go to philly. That seems to explain rather obviously why we are perpetually mediocre and a prime candidate to replace the Lions as the biggest joke in the league. We have some good WR's, a promising QB and good special teams though our PK is a bit shaky at times. That is about all we have to hang our hats on. We just have to prove people wrong. Jeeezus, you do realize it was the Bills that were 0-6 in the division last year and not the Patriots? Don't you? It isn't the benefit of the doubt at work here, it is actual, honest to goodness, on the field results. Facts, not conjecture. People don't unfairly think we sucked last year, we really and truly did. And we "fixed" it by dumping our one pro bowler. And really, the point isn't what they pay this or that player, the point is winning and the Bills don't do that. When you regularly lose and spend the post season on the golf course, your personnel decsions, especially when it involves dumping a two time pro bowler in his prime, are legitimately going be called into question. The Patriots let go of players but not guys in their prime, for them they break the bank. The guys they let go are the guys on the backsides of their careers like Lawyer Milloy. The Pats would have traded Peters, but they would have his replacement on the roster before the trade. They resign players they need, let walk players they dont.
