Bo Scaife....

Recommended Posts

Scaife is definitely an upgrade - he's a real, NFL-level starter, the likes of which we haven't seen since Jay Riemersma. But probably not worth a whole lot more than that. He finished 13th among TEs in yards last year, and 7th in receptions. Definitely respectable numbers.

I'd say he ends up getting around 4 years, $13M.

Will he leave Tennessee or will Tennessee let him walk? The one thing I remember about the guy is that every time I picked him up for my fantasy league he didn't do jack squat. Other than that, he's DEFINITELY an upgrade over "stone hands".

What's he proven, and what's that worth?

58 catches for 561 in 2008, 46 for 421 in 2007, 29 for 370 in 2006, 37 for 273 in 2005 as a rookie.

In 2008 we had Royal going for 33 and 351, 2007 Royal and Gaines for 25 grabs each, 2006 Royal 23 for 233, 2005 Campbell 19 for 139 and Royal 18 for 131.

This guy gets open for ONE, and he cathches the ball for Two on a RUN first team. He has yet to disappoint in his short career!

So, over the past four seasons, he has averaged 165 yards a season more than Robert Royal, who we can all agree sucks, and has actually caught one fewer TD passes. Yet, he is universally seen as the top TE on the open market, and any team needing one will have him at the top of their lists. A bidding war will ensue. That's why I want to know, what has he proven, and what is that worth?

I think a player like scaife would free up guys like Freddy and Josh reed, but not necessarily stretch the field. Forcing defenders to respect the underneath and mid routes will allow more single coverage on our deep threat receivers on the outside. Safetys would now have to cheat more towards the 5 and 7 routes which tight ends occasionally run from the slot, and that means more single zone, and 1/1 coverage for Evans.

Yes, I'd definitely go for him and not waste another pick on the TE position which, in my opinion is the most "hit or miss" position in the draft.
