If we cut Drew now, we could take the salary cap for that signing bonus this year so we'd be free and clear next year. But you can't go into a game with just Shane Matthews at QB. You need someone else. Someone who has Neil O'Donnell's ability to avoid key mistakes. But you also need to get the guy at as cap-friendly a figure as Neil O'Donnell would represent. He should be a proven veteran who has Neil O'Donnell's ability to pick up the offense quickly. He should be able to manage the game as well as Neil O'Donnell. He should also be able to open the offense up the way Neil O'Donnell can. The purpose of this post is just to mention general qualifications for QB, not to talk about any names in particular. Names like Neil O'Donnell. TD should choose the best QB for the team over the next few weeks, even if it means bringing a player out of retirement. Seriously....when JP Losman gets ready he is going to be in their....so maybe allowing the backup QB to take over the team for a couple of weeks is the SMART thing to do.....it allows for a easier transition from Bledsoe to Losman....Mathews knows he is the backup.....and if he plays well we can keep him around to be back up next year as well.....Drew will surely be gone...... I just have this feeling in my gut that this team would put points on the board with Mathews in their......since the O Line is not protecting well we cant throw deep anyway......Mathews makes smart decisions with the ball even if he doesn't have a strong arm...... How about a change when inside the red zone? DB is obviously OK at moving the team down inside the 10. Its from there he sucks.
