Bills @ Chiefs

Hey guys,

I'm starting to think about swinging out west to catch the Chiefs game. Roundtrip flight and tickets are pretty reasonable, much better than @ Denver. Wanted to know if anyone has ever been to Arrowhead/KC and how the overall gameday experience was. Any comments, tips or suggestions, ie where to stay, what there is to do would be much appreciated. Thanks (I know this should be posted on the Tailgaters board, but I know I'll catch more eyes over here, sorry!)

I have been to Arrowhead before in 2003 I believe when the Bills were horrible and the Chiefs won 38-5. The Chiefs fans were pretty nice to me there because um well they won by a lot. Tailgaiting looks awesome around the stadium and its right off the high way. Tickets aren't that hard to come by either especially this year. Dont know where to stay but overall a pretty good experience. Only away game i've ever been too

I won't be going to this game but I was there in 2000 around the same time when the Bills were playing there and Rob Johnson was our starting quarterback. Kansas City was a pretty good team then and we pulled off that game at the end to win and I think we had a 7-4 at that point, however we did not make the playoffs that year. Anyway, Arrowhead is a great stadium and Kansas City has very good fans. It can get very loud in the stadium. It definitely is a great place to see a football game.

They tailgate well and are pretty classy, dedicated fans. I went about 12 years ago for a preseason game (!) -- I was in town visiting my grandfather -- and the place was absolutely packed, a sea of red. I understand why visiting teams have a hard time there. But visiting fans should be okay. I did get flipped off by a middle-aged woman while walking through the parking lot. I gave her the old Scottie Norwood "get that tomahawk chop out of here" gesture back.

I've never been - so I'm really excited about going this year. The hotels next to the stadium are quite pricey. I found a room at a Best Western for $75 about 2 miles from the stadium.

Tickets are still available from the Chiefs web site.

There will be a Saturday night party I'm sure. The local Bills Backers will probably post something in the Tailgate section of the board.

i've been there twice now, had a great tailgating experience each time. since the nfl won't let you into the lots until 3 hours before kickoff, chief fans literally start their tailgating while driving into the stadium. no kidding, we saw numerous grills and smokers being fired up in the back of open bed pickups while idling in the lines waiting for the gates to open.

i lived in KC for a year - would not really recommend downtown as this is a city that defines midwest urban sprawl... there is frankly not a lot of action right downtown unless you like overpriced shopping at crown center or on the plaza (which is actually several miles from the big buildings)

gates barbecue, however, is well worth the trip to main street in downtown (best working class bbq in the city). also the negro league baseball HOF and the jazz museum at 18th and vine are good to visit (one ticket gets you into both) if you get into town early and have time to kill on saturday

The last time I was there was in the early 80's and Buffalo got killed. It was a brutal game, but the fans were respectful and pretty good about it. No fights, no drunken brawls, just good clean fun. My wife and I driving down from Minneapolis, and spending the night in Des Moines, then driving to the stadium on Sunday morning. Its only about 3 hours from Des Moines. See you there, and hopefully the Bills will wipe TG's ass and make him really sorry he didn't choose to come to Buffalo!

Go BILLS!

I would suggest that you stay more downtown area. There is not much near the stadium. Overall, the city is fun and I would recommend a car so that you can hit the casino's. I believe we stayed at the Comfort Suites and it was a good hotel since there were a large number of bars in the area.

The fans were really fun...I hooked with some folks that I worked with in KC and joined their tailgate...very cool Buffalo like community. The stadium is good and the fans were good overall...I did not talk to many jerks....

We lost the game, but it was fun...When we were there someone left a grill to close to their car and the car blew up into flames...a few cars got messed up from the heat.

Have fun.

Anyone know if there are buses from downtown to the stadium? That way you can see the city itself on Saturday and still get to the game, as it looks like Arrowhead is a ways out of the way from downtown.

Busses from downtown are available. They are a pretty good deal. There is a lot of construction around Arrowhead so the bus definitely takes the hassles out of driving.

Here's a link.
