I wasn't expecting a lot from him when we signed him, as he was relatively undistinguished and a 'rotation' guy. FWIW, I see the 'starting' competition as between Williams and Johnson too. Not that McCargo is failing, his presence strengthens the whole D-Line overall and he's not going anywhere ('til his contract's up anyway..). Spencer and Kyle are simply outperforming him. I would have thought Dick would not move so quickly on Johnson. He has played well though. Dick's more concerned about plugging up the holes. Primarily it’s been Kyle Williams and Spencer Johnson rotating in and out sometimes day by day with the first unit, but for the first time in a while John McCargo was given his shot with the ones. With the pads off during the 11-on-11 portions of practice it’s more difficult for the defensively linemen to truly make an impact, but it’s clear that competition is far from over.
