"Going limp" isn't a threatening move.  You can try and justify this any way you want, but you're wrong.  There was no reason to repeatedly taser a person who is already on the ground.  You also don't get to taser someone because they don't have a student ID.  You don't get to taser someone who won't get up off the ground.

As a cop, I can most certainly answer this question. Even though my department has chosen not to issue tasers, I am very familiar with the use of force matrix that all police departments use.

Going limp is most certainly not a "threatening move", however it is considered passive physical resistance. Most departments have a policy that passive physical resistance can be dealt with by the police utilizing physical tactics, such as a taser. Most often, a simple armlock will do. Sometimes, it will not, which is when the taser gets used. Again, this depends on each departments policy, and I cannot speak for UCPD policy.

Just thought I would throw my two cents into this discussion

Perhaps a case of a rent-a-cop abusing his power.....BUT if a man with a tazer tells me to leave because I am violating university policy by not showing my ID, I leave. Then I complain about it later. The kid was making a martyr out of himself on purpose, shouting all the nonsense about the Patriot Act. He knew someone was taping it, he knew there where lots of witnesses. He was over-dramatizing it for some personal vendetta he had against campus security, probably for busting up his underage drinking party/date rape fest at his local frat house a few days earlier.

According to the transcript you posted he was leaving.

You escort him out of the building.  You don't escalate the situation by using force when none is necessary.

Conversely when told to leave, you leave, you don't stand/sit there saying I'm leaving.....I'm leaving.....I'm leaving when, (in the first three minutes of the tape alone ---- I couldn't take anymore) the police told him to leave at least 100 times.

Yet, he was still there. How many times should he have to be told to leave?

OMG that was awesome!

How much clearer could the officer have been there? The stupid cow didn't follow directions. He TOLD her he would do it. She totally deserved that.

So how bout it leftists? Did this poor, innocent woman get brutalized by the evil cops here too?

As many times as it takes. Because that's what a nation of pussies does. We tolerate everything so we don't hurt anyone's feelings.

The dude obviously pushed the buttons to have this happen, and I would not be surprised in the least if we find out that the person shooting the video was a friend of his who just "happened" to be walking by.

"Oh, look. Whosyourmomma is getting tased. Lucky for me, I am ready to start rolling tape."

Ah yes, the inevitable has happened.

A real class act, this guy.

Sorry Johnny and the rest. I believe that the guy was acting like a jerk. He didn't follow the rules. He got tazed for not following directions. After he got tazed, he still refused to cooperate.

I am sure the people watching got upset. It didn't look like a pretty scene. I bet none of them try to buck up to the police in the future either. And as far as giving badge numbers and IDs? Sure, the people have a right to have them. Once the perp is subdued. Does anyone really think the cops are going to stop in the middle of an arrest to comply with citizens requests to have thier badge numbers? Please.

This jerkoff totally got what he deserved. But at least he got the attention he so obviously wanted...

Can you believe this crap?

That's right. We're going through university libraries looking for you towelheads now.

Unfortunately, the kid will be set for life and a hard-working low-wage dude will get canned.

I wonder how long Whosyourmomma was waiting to pull the "racial profiling" card to pay his way through life.

What an ass!@#$. From reading the name, you kinda figured the race card would be played for too long. I still think the use of force was a bit excessive. But the kid is a douchebag for playing the race card.

You could not see what was happening each time he got tazed.  Also, some people can be quite violent and fight extremely well on the ground in handcuffs.  This guy was an idiot.  Why don't we convict these Police Officers without all the facts.  Until you have been in thier shoes, you have no idea how hard a job it can be, and how uncooperative and combative an idiot in handcuffs can be.

840149[/snapback]

Some people in the thread already have.

Anyone with half a brain can tell you that once you start disobeying the cops when they ask you do something, they're going to get physical and that's going to suck for you. And I'm sure this kid has a really sound mind when the first thing he thinks to do after getting hit with taser is start screaming about the Patriot Act.

The same people always see police brutality and basically have no appreciation for police officers in general (look at all the "stupid rent-a-cop" blasts in this thread). I'm not really surprised some UCLA college students think this is the worth crime against humanity of all time.

It doesn't really matter. This kid is going to win a $2 million dollar lawsuit (*at least*) and the cops will probably lose their jobs for trying to get this jackass away from where he wasn't supposed to be.

I didn't even see that before my last post but this is exactly what I was expecting.

The big tip-off was right at the start of the audio "THIS is your Patriot Act!"

This big !@#$ing !@#$ is gonna rake in the money on this one. Congratulations, America. If you didn't think you were a victim before, it's just because you haven't noticed yet. :(

I know, isn't it awful? The nerve of the Stormtroopers to actually expect you to obey their commands. How racist!

And for the record, University PD are definitely NOT rent-a-cops. They are actual Police officers, which means you might want to not piss them off and do what they request of you.

The sad part of this story? None of this would have happened had this innocent soul just followed Chris Rock's advice:

Goddamn those videos are gruesome. The one in florida was just, but seriously if they are down on the ground, let them regain themselves. Seriously, that is some crazy sh** for them to do it more than once. The case in LA is no surprise since cops in LA have a bad reputation to begin with. But there is not reason the use that much force three more times on a kid that was laying on the ground
