About the Draft

Morris probabaly gave us the most quality plays.  Polk was a good special teamer/ backup.

I was disappointed when they let Sammy go.

I think successful teams have those four or five or six players on the roster, who don't possess the best speed, or moves, the best of hands, or blocking technique and so on.

But they are worthwhile NFL-caliber players. They fill in when needed - not performing this or that stellar play, but do well enough for a team to get by with them because they generally have a good grasp of the game and use their abilities as well as possible.

They keep themselves in game shape, and pay attention even though they don't get into much action. Regardless of their positions, I think they are students of the game on both sides of the ball. No kabuki dances if they happen to make a big play; back to the offensive or defensive huddle for the next play.

i noticed there were a lot of posts saying how great this draft class is already based on roughly 2 weeks of TRAINING CAMP and 1 PRESEASON game. Im all for hoping but im also a realist. remember six years ago Buffalo had one of the worst, no screw that, THE WORST draft class in team history, if not the worst in the NFL the past 15 years.

1. Erik Flowers

2. Traveres Tillman

3. Corey Moore

4. Avion Black

5. Sammy Morris

6. Leif Larsen

7. Drew Haddad

8. Dashon Polk

... Christ that makes me laugh and gag at the same time and lets be honest, most of us were feeling pretty good about that class at the time of training camp...

Of the first three picks, two (Flowers and Moore) are no longer playing as far as I can tell, and the third (Tillman) looks like he's just about done. Though Morris has shown himself to be a servicable backup in Miami, the most productive player out of that draft is arguably the last one picked. :D

My God...we're the !@#$ing Bengals. :)

Obviously way too soon to tell, but this draft has a very solid look to it, not so flashy, but likely to yield good football players who contribute to the team. Looking back at some of the other mentioned drafts is pretty sad. If we can get a couple very solid drafts in a row, hopefully with a lower draft position every year, we can lay the foundation for an eventual #32 overall pick, which is what we are all after in the end.

Bottom line about the 2000 draft is that those players should be the veteran leadership on this team right now and should be in the prime of their careers. Every other team in the league has atleast one player from that draft that panned out in one way or another; so they automatically have an advantage over the Bills.

2000 was by far the worst draft.

And If I remember vaguley, Mr. Kiper thought we reached for Tillman in

the 2nd round and thought we got a diamond in the rough in Corey Moore...

He thought he would replace Bruce as the pass rushing specialist having

beaten Bruce's sack record in the same university......

Does anyone know what the most rookies to start for the Bills during a season?

I have know idea and no clue as to how to find out, but it would be interesting to see how the "best" draft compairs to the 2006 (so far).

2001 should be a good bet.....We had Schoebel, Clements, and Henry start

(I think).

Leif Larson is the starting DE for the NFC champion the Seahawks.

Well a bunch from 2003 might be starting this year. McGahee, Kelsay, Crowell, McGee. Aiken has a way outside chance (injury maybe?) to do so as well.

2001 had Clements, Schobel, Henry, Jennings, Sullivan who all started at the same time I think. Thats 5 as well.

Drafts prior to 1993 shouldn't really be compared because of the fact that there were 12 rounds in the draft or more.

I wouldn't go that far. :D

During their 10 years of wandering in the desert in the nineties, it came to light that then-1st-rounder Ki-Jana Carter purchased towels for the team because Mikie Brown wouldn't provide them.

There was no training table; friend-of-the-family HC Dave Shula used to chow down his personal brown bag in his car 'cause he hated the players and they hated him. The certifiable wr Carl Pickens would MF the (small) home crowd and the club, and for some reason had a paticular dislike for PGH's cb Woodson, and would fling dirty insults into Woodson's face about his wife two times a year.

Their bargain-basement practice field during the season was what we now call an unremediated brownfield site that caused the players to complain about itching and respiratory ailments.

After cadging Eisason to return to active duty and seeing him win 3 of 4, putting up stellar numbers and garnering Player Of The Month honors, sat him down so as not to pay incentive $$$.

Hired the front-man county commissioner who rammed through the bond issue for the replacement stadium - stupid voters - and the sales tax revenues meant to service the bond issue are waning so there is currently a dance around default. Said commish remains on the staff, of course, being paid hefty six figures.

The current B'gals front office is a study in nepotism.

Brown snuck one by the IRS (they are still gunning for him) over the way he "lent" two of three shares of the B'gals corporation to a family friend to avoid paying tax on the franchise appreciation after daddy Paul Brown's passing (pay attention, Ralph). Local judge saw no evidence of constructive receipt. Oh, that long-time family friend is on the staff and is paid a bundle.

Brownie claimed that Sam Wyche walked into his office and quit, so Mikie refused to pay his contract. Wyche had to go to court.

Charming, all in all, eh?

Sort of like Wade Phillips going to court because he "quit" when he told Ralph he refused to release special-teams coach Ronnie Jones? I know people get upset if Wilson gets bad mouthed but the truth is Wilson is far from a great owner IMHO.

Glad to see someone else has taken up the banner.

Is it any wonder that Ralph and Brown were the only two owners to vote "no" during the offseason owners meetings??
