When times are tough, one can hunker down, get tough, and try to figure out a way to deal with it, or one can whine and cry and get someone to threaten a congressional hearing and find a bogeyman.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Unless you are getting gang-hosed by Daniel Snyder and his cronies. Maybe they are more pissed Wilson shined a light on these cockroaches?

Look, I'm sick of seeing Ralph on the news crying about the injustices in the world because of his inabilities to find a staff to put butts in the seats going forward.

It's not Dan Snyder's fault that the Bills suck and they are going to have a hard time selling out this year.

It has nothing to do with ticket prices or revenue sharing, or anything else.

If he had a product like he did in the early 90's then people would be willing to spend $75.00 per ticket to come to a Bills game. But, he doesn't. And the bottom line is that it was Ralph's poor decisions in staffing that has led to the crappy sales he's going to be seeing except when a popular team comes to town.

No one picks on our team's owner or hometown paper but us.

Funny, I think that's why a Redskins "writer" was writing an article on a Redskins website defending his owner after an attack from the Bills owner.

What the heck, it's the off-season, lets do a little Hatfield-McCoy battle :P

That's funny, because I used to go the games in the good ole' days ('90-'94) and tickets were a lot cheaper than they are today, and they STILL didn't sell out until the week of the game! So the level of support today isn't any less than it was back then.

I know it's hard for people to keep facts straight, but ticket sales have nothing to do with what Ralph is crying about. The Bills already sell out. The problem is that the Bills can't keep up revenue-wise with these large-matket teams. There aren't enough big corporate sponsors in WNY.

This wasn't a problem when the NFL shared revenue equally. But the new carpetbaggers like Kraft, Snyder, and Jones, don't believe in fair play. They believe in "us first, screw the rest of ya!" They want the NFL to be like MLB: 10 power franchises, and 22 punching bags.

THAT is what Wilson is sounding the alarm over. The fundamental change in the NFL revenue formula. It looks like either you don't get it, or you like to twist the truth so you can have a laugh at Ralph's expense.

Screw the Skins and Snyder. Buffalo can support a team as it has proven. It just may not be able to compete in a revenue war with teams in a megalopolis such as Washington, N. Va or Dallas-Fort Worth. We'll see how in favor of a free market Snyder and Jones are when the NFL proposes new franchises in N. Va or in Fort Worth.

Where does this come from? What have the big bad new guys actually done that makes you think they want 10 power franchises and 22 punching bags? There is a salary cap. You cannot spend over the cap. The TV money, that everyone gets equally, is BIGGER than the cap. The big guys can't outspend Ralph now or in the foreseeable future. And he's just lying when he says he can't pay large bonuses, he easily can, he just won't.

The big guys changed the power structure to INCLUDE the little guys not shut them out. The old deal DIDN'T include sharing local revenues but now does. Ralph has a few small potential beefs that haven't even been shown to be legitimate, although they very well may. The small teams can compete on the field with the bigger teams and will be able to. Right now, the only difference is how many millions in profit they will make compared to the bigger cities.

cash over cap.washington was said to spend 100 million last season on a 85 million dollar salary cap!...teams like washington and dallas are already allowed to spend over the cap.now that the cap was raised alot .its just that much more over the cap they will be able to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!! remember before the new labor agreement everyone was joking how the redskins would have to cut half the team to meet the cap????????????/who did they cut? lavar arrington and he waived his 4.4 mill so that was kinda crazy fishy too.i have no problem with a big market team keeping some of the extra spoils like a luxury seat or naming rights or if they go above and beyond to make extra cash, but the cap should be a hard cap that shouldnt be allowed to be circumvented with cash over cap upfront bonuses being paid out.

this new deal may mean the end of the bills in buffalo. that is a big deal to a lot of people. wilson just wanted to make people aware of it. he wasnt whining about it, he was making it clear to everyone what was at stake and what could happen.

i consistantly read articals that say we should be happy with the deal because it keeps the salary cap going. but whats the point of having a cap, if you move the bills to L.A.?

Nonsense. The amount of "cash over cap" they just don't spend down the road. Cash over cap simply means they spent more up front and spent that same amount less on the other end. Yes, they keep pushing their problems into the future year in and year out but Ralph could do that, too, if he wanted. It's not really circumvented.

I sent this guy the following e-mail:

Rich,

I really hope that you are not just being a shill for Dan Snyder.

The NFLPA took the NFL to the cleaners in this agreement. Most people seem to agree on this point now even though only two owners were smart enough to vote against it.

It appears that owners like Dan Snyder and others were desperate to get a deal done for fear that they would have to cut numerous players to stay under the cap. Tags was desperate to get a deal done to further his legacy. He knew that he was going to retire and did not want any labor strife on his watch. In an attempt to push the multi-billion dollar deal through without any meaningful deliberation or analysis, team owners were given minutes to vote on it.

Now we face the issue of qualifiers. One of the qualifiers being floated around is to preclude teams that are sold from participating in revenue sharing. It appears that this proposal is directed specifically toward a team such as the Bills to create an incentive for anyone purchasing the Bills from Mr. Wilson or his estate to move the team to LA or some other city.

Criticize Mr. Wilson all you want. It seems that you and Dan Snyder are just upset that Mr. Wilson is using the tools at his disposal.

It would be wise for all of the owners (and you) to remember that we are talking about the National Football League. The NFL is not 32 distinct and separate corporations. The success and unprecedented growth of the League has been premised on a revenue sharing arrangement and cap given that they allowed each team to be successful and compete. This includes Green Bay, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo as well as the New York teams, Washington, Dallas, and Philadelphia.

As a Buffalo Bills lifelong supporter and season ticket holder, I am glad that owners such as Wellington Mara had the foresight to appreciate that the League is greater than the sum of its parts. I can only hope that owners like Dan Snyder, Jerry Jones, and others will realize this as well.

Whether he's right or not, it's a sh-- article. A real sports writer would have focused on the CBA, and said "Wilson's wrong because..." This bozo just wrote a thousand words of "Wah, wah, wah...Wilson's picking on my favorite owner!"

The guy's obviously clueless when he says college football doesn't have a revenue sharing plan. Has this clown ever heard of the BCS? It's what allows programs like Vanderbilt, Duke and Baylor to be self-sustaining, largely because they're guaranteed several million in bowl payouts every year from their conference brethren.

What a f-----g idiot.

Hey Folks,

I'm the one who wrote the article, and since at least one of you and possible more have emailed me in resonse, let me just answer to a few points raised here:

No one picks on our team's owner or hometown paper but us.

Right, I agree. Had Wilson not called Snyder out by name I would have left him alone.

Maybe they are more pissed Wilson shined a light on these cockroaches?

Believe me, Wilson did not need to shine any flashlight. We've seen what Snyder has done in regards to jacking up prices, turning game day at the stadium into a 4-hour trip into Ad World, and making a hash out of the football operation for five years before hiring back Joe Gibbs. Those of us in DC know Snyder all too well and are scared to death of what he might do when Gibbs retires again, for good.

Wow, someone who writes for his own website calling a Buffalo News reporter and the AP hacks. This guy is about as bright as a half watt lightbulb

As to the first part, the site that the article appeared on is owned by, and I am paid by, FoxSports.com. That doesn't make it better than the Buffalo paper, but it's not my own website. As to the second part, my wife probably would agree with you sometimes. :P

And an out-and-out theft of TQM's comment about Farve a year or so ago... angel.gif

The cheating generation marches on..

Don't have any idea what TQM is, I've never read it so I couldn't steal from it. Not that I'm above borrowing a good one-liner from time to time, but this was not one of those times.

It appears that owners like Dan Snyder and others were desperate to get a deal done for fear that they would have to cut numerous players to stay under the cap.

Nope, not the case for the Redskins anyway. The stuff you read about them having to play with 20 rookies turned out to pure nonsense. They got enough veterans to redo their deals so that they wouldn't have had to cut any more players than they ended up cutting anyway. True, they would not have been as active in free agency as they were, but Snyder did not go along with the agreement to avert cap hell.

Criticize Mr. Wilson all you want. It seems that you and Dan Snyder are just upset that Mr. Wilson is using the tools at his disposal.

I can't speak for Snyder, but I'm not upset. Kind of sad, really, but not upset. And Snyder is just using the tools at his disposal, too.

Once again, I will point out that Jones and Snyder--along with 28 other owners--did ultimately vote to keep the salary cap, the main driver of parity, and to share what to them will be tens of millions of dollars annualy with the leagues other teams.

Whether he's right or not, it's a sh-- article. A real sports writer would have focused on the CBA, and said "Wilson's wrong because..." This bozo just wrote a thousand words of "Wah, wah, wah...Wilson's picking on my favorite owner!"

I have written many, many articles on the CBA and what is right and what is wrong about it. You can do a Google search, they're out there. This particular article focused on Wilson's comments on Snyder.

As to the first part, uh, did you read the article? Because this was in it:

Sure, the conferences share TV and bowl revenues among their members.

So, yes, this "clown" has heard of the BCS. But the disparity in revenue between, say, Michigan and Wake Forest is much, much greater than the disparity in revenue between the Redskins and the Bills and if you don't believe that I think we'll have to reevaluate who is cluess. As to the second part, again, my wife would probably agree.

I put my email address at the top of such articles and find the boards that link to my articles because I want to hear what people think about them. I appreciate your comments, even the disparaging ones :P

Thanks for letting me visit your board, it looks like a very classy place.
