Different time.  The portal and NIL have changed how things work. Cignetti turned my alma mater IU into a winner, Kiffin can do the same at Ole Miss with a little financial help from boosters.

Ole Miss doesn't have the brand or money LSU has.

Kiffin got Ole Miss to where its at because of booster money.

Ole Miss doesn't have deep pockets.

I can’t figure it out either. Dude has never won anything.

He won 2 C-USA conference championships (their only 2 conference championships) in 3 years at FAU.

He had a great thing at Tennessee. He has a great thing at Ole Miss.

LOL!!!

Kiffin took over after Fulmer.

Fulmer drove that program into the ditch.

Looks like Kiffin's off to LSU and he's already complaining that Ole Miss won't let him hang out with the team if they reach the finals..........that's like breaking up with your high school sweetheart and then still trying to take her to the prom.

I don't blame him for leaving Ole Miss........LSU has the higher ceiling for NIL money (25 million, i think) and he's going to build a customized roster and throw cash around to get players he wants into the portal. He'll also bring some of his coaching personnel, so take a good look at Ole Miss right now cause chances are real slim that they'll be in this position again any time soon.

He's an egomaniac who chases the greener grass.  He's not about developing kids or building a legacy at a program (which he could have done at Ole Miss).  He sees bright, shiny LSU with their recruiting prowess, no in-state conference rival, and rabid fan base.  It's obviously not about the money because Ole Miss was going to pay whatever LSU offered.  I've heard some SEC apologists say it's more than his own income, it's the income for his coaches, but I've not seen that verified anywhere and again, Ole Miss was willing to do whatever it took.

I get it when a coach at a lesser program dreams of making it into the big time, but Kiffin has lived in the big time.

He's another Brian Kelly; a sanctimonious ***** who only cares about himself.

Players on Ole Miss' leadership council have already come out and said Kiffin's statement he released is "not what happened" -- i.e., the players weren't crestfallen that he couldn't continue coaching.

As someone who grew up in MS I will say this, Ole Miss has recruited well and gotten top national classes long before Lane Kiffin arrived and I think that will continue without Lane. I'm more of an Mississippi State fan (I got to watch Eric Moulds there as a kid), but that LSU job isn't the same as it was a decade ago. And even tho I don't care for Brian Kelly, LSU tried to screw him over on his contract, plus the Louisiana governor is trying to run the program now, never has a school fallen so far after a Natty 5-6 years ago. You have a melodramatic narcissistic diva of a coach who has burned bridges everywhere he's gone and a dysfunctional University in LSU, I totally expect Lane's exit from LSU to be the most dramatic exit of a college football coach in history.

This is false. Ole Miss has money and they matched LSU's offer. That's why they consistently had top 10 recruiting classes over the last 15 years.

All that said, I think he took it bc LSU has more National Championships and is more iconic in college football. I don't think he handled his exit professionally, but I don't blame him for taking it. Sure he could have won a Natty at Ole Miss this year, it will be funny if they do without him too, but I think he's looking at it from that perspective, even if he is unprofessional about it.

While he doesnt have any Championships, he does have a proven (and recent) track record of building and legitimizing programs. His work at FAU and Ole Miss is undeniable.

Plus, he's apparently hilarious in the SEC Head Coach group text, which I am still willing to pay money to join.
