HoofHearted Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Tabor did a great job showing multiple returns in the Bills game this weekend. Below is a breakdown of two that popped because of fantastic execution by the entire unit. This first one is the one Mecole Hardman returned. The Bills set up a sideline return where they doubled the 3 to the return side and kicked out the 1&2 with our widest guy and the off-returner. The natural cross-block that occurs creates an extra gap and widens the lane for the returner. Everyone else up front is working to reach the guy aligned head up on them except the furthest guy away, he will work to pick up #3 away and the unit will burn #1 & #2. This second return was to Davis. As you can see they came out with a different alignment. This return is designed to go to either side based on which way the ball is kicked. Ultimately it worked very similarly to the first one where you get a naturally kick from the off-returner as well as the widest guy to the side of the kick on the 30. The other two are just looking to scoop the most dangerous man coming free inside them to create the natural lane for the returner inside 1, 2, & 3. Like the first scheme, the front line with look to reach the man head up to inside of them, and will burn the backside #1 & #2. It's interesting the Buccaneers didn't adjust their numbers on their coverage team, something we clearly took advantage of. 2 4 1 Quote
Buffalo716 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) He has had some diversified looks in the kick return game all year they just haven't always popped Buccaneers also have terrible coverage unit... Realistically if you can't draw up a kick return scheme like this you shouldn't be an NFL special teams coordinator It was a massive bright spot though... Probably the best starting field position for the bills in a long time Edited 1 hour ago by Buffalo716 1 Quote

Allen2Moulds Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Sorry, I don't mean to rain on the parade, but the Bucs have a horrible coverage unit. I live in Tampa and watched the game with local diehard friends, and it's a known weakness on the team. Not saying we still can't be encouraged by some things, but I would temper expectations a little bit, unless we see it again Thurs. Edited 1 hour ago by Allen2Moulds Quote

It's hard to win games in the NFL when you are basically letting a team start at midfield all game long Quote
Charles Romes Posted 42 minutes ago Posted 42 minutes ago Great coaching up of Hardman on fielding the punt when we had no return team. Quote
