hate the name and the concept. ridiculous. it was/is a violent game. its why we watch it. announcing the onside kick...if you're going to keep this rule, get rid of onside kick completely.

am 62, the game is so drastically changed, its borderline unwatchable. it will  be flag football in 3 years. just sad

"But the rate of concussions per 100 kickoffs through seven weeks rose from 0.09 in 2024 to 1.18 this season, according to internal league data that was shared with teams and viewed by The Athletic. The concussion rate per 100 kickoff returns climbed to 1.48 through seven weeks, compared to 0.29 last season. The data shared with clubs indicated that it is roughly five times the league’s baseline concussion rate on run or pass plays."

im curious to know for the receiving team. What is the difference in concussion rates between the blockers and the returners.

I'm not a fan of the new kickoffs and use that time to do other things for a few minutes. (My eyes aren't watching those commercials) I liked the old kickoffs that I've watched for over 50 years.

At this point I say just give it to them at the 20, but wanting to increase scoring they'd probably give teams the ball at the 50.

The new kickoffs have too many rules on where the ball goes etc... They still haven't figured out what a catch is yet.

I mean is the new kickoff really that exciting?

Most times we see the player tackled somewhere around the 30 yard line and it's a very unexciting play.

Sure, every now and again they break one, but they did that on the normal kickoffs too.

With the new safety data, is this allegedly "exciting play" that really isn't, more safe than bombing kickoffs into the endzone 80% of the time for a TouchBack that has them starting at the 30, which is around where they are starting now anyway?

Per Joe Marino the Bills are 31st in starting field position this year. Eagles are 32nd.

I know many felt Cordington was a waste of roster spot but to me he was good return man last year, this year he wasn't as good and obviously nobody stepped up based on those stats.
