2023 they relied on guys like Toney and Moore to step up and become starters. They had a serious case of the dropsies and flamed out

I fail to see how this is much different than us relying on Coleman, Samuel and Moore to step up?

2024 they had the injury issues at wr that, again, curtailed their offense. Yet they still managed to have a functional offense.

15th/16th in points/yards is like bang on average. If that’s “functional” with one of the best QBs in football, I’m not sure what your definition of dysfunctional is.

Well, the season is not over so I’m holding out  hope that our guys would not be as bad by season’s end.

How is average not functional? Because they do have one of the best QB they were still able to be successful. If you think KC was dysfunctional, yet made it to another Super Bowl then the AFC should just give up. They lost 1 game in the regular season. lol.

No, this doesn’t make me feel better.

400 of these yards were week 1

Meaning he’s averaging less than 180 yards passing the last 6 games.

And the INTs

He’s been good.  Just not anywhere near his best and if it’s bc the WRs are really terrible, no I’m not confident we will “turn it around.”

Which is Dan admitting here in his own tweet he hasn’t been as good as 2024

Kind of funny how that narrative started a few years ago.   Apparently no OC in the NFL knows how to beat it either.  Its full proof.

It's also funny looking at the formations from back then.  They are almost identical to what Brady is currently doing.   Daboll just used more motion, had multiple outcomes for the same look, and had better personnel.

The way to beat the Cover 2 has always been seam routes and corner routes that go in the sideline pocket between the safety and corner.  A good running game always compromises it by compressing the box which should make the TEs the best targets if the right route combos are called to exploit it.  It helps to have speed to get the safeties deeper, but it isn't necessary to exploit it.  The Bills have all the tools except the speed to get the safeties deeper.

I'd like to see them call more passes from the Heavy TE sets, especially Play Action quick hitters on the seams where defenses are selling out on the run.  We've seen them do it only a handful of times this year, but it should be more of their bread and butter and it would have Defenses guessing.  There are also other concepts from this formation where they could have Hawes block and release opposite the flow of the play action as teams see him as a key to where a run is headed and would think they got past a key blocker.  The Chiefs do a good job of that type of design.  It's all right there for them to utilize.  They have strengths that they can build off of, but for some reason get too cute and don't.

The thought I keep coming back to it is if this year's lack of offensive production is bc we haven't gone deep into the playbook? Mostly we've been doing zone runs, low routes, or jet sweeps, a few basic screens but that's it. In year's past folks people have talked about not showing too deep into the playbook until after the bye week or major games like this coming up.

I'm still on the fence about Keon's development and feel that has turned into more of a mob mentality driven wave of negativity. I like Steve Smith and believe some of his points on Keon, but Keon has almost as many yards less than 1.5 seasons into his career than Steve Smith did in his first 2 years, it's still early, I think his issues with the team are more conduct right now than anything, considering the recent benchings for conduct. They always talked about his jump game anyway and he runs a 4.7, so I never had any expectations of him being a YAC guy, just a red zone possession type WR that go get the jump ball, and if it doesn't work out then it's Beane's fault for drafting a 4.7 WR imo.

Anyway, I'm just curious if some think we haven't rolled out much in terms of playbook compared to past years, which has been a trend to try to get on a streak.

This is why the game Sunday is so interesting.  I tend to agree with you that from a player and playbook standpoint the Bills have been load managing the team.  Giving guys that extra week off to get fully healthy and not going to deep into the playbook.  But for a variety of reasons this is the game to go full bore and forget about any load management. We'll know more Sunday night.
