He got OC gigs because of his time with New England's staff. He was downright awful in other places (outside of NE) before Buffalo, and besides one magical run in his first year with the Giants, he's been just as awful. Josh is probably going to make a lot of guys look good at their jobs, but don't forget Daboll's beautiful playcalling with designed shotgun QB sweeps on 3rd and 7 or two route short-side roll out pass plays on 3rd and short. Josh succeeded in spite of Daboll more than we all might have realized. So Daboll looked good with Brady and Allen, hmmm.... In somewhat defense of Daboll, he had some awful teams to work with as OC. Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson under Eric Mangini with the Browns - ugh. 2011 with Matt Moore on the Dolphins, he managed a decent offense. 2012 Chiefs, he had Matt "Noodle Arm" Cassel who thought his excrement had no odor and the team as a whole has all kinds of stories about putting the dys in dysfunctional under Scott Pioli. There's a reason Romeo Crennel and Eric Mangini haven't gotten head coaching opportunities since (though I guess Crennel did with Houston in 2020). I've had people argue with this POV, but I think Daboll got a bit full of himself in Buffalo with Allen. I think he got to believing he could mold any QB with an arm and some running ability (like Daniel Jones) into Josh Allen. Allen could handle Daboll's form of coaching; not every player can. Daboll in Buffalo managed to have a good offense (with some spectacular failures like the Jags loss and the season opener loss to Pittsburgh) even though he seemingly said "Lalala" with his fingers in his ears any time McDermott told him that the Bills needed a competent run game. Then, when Daboll went to the Giants and had success his first year 2022, it appears his ego just exploded. There's a saying "nothing fails like success" and I think winning COTY in 2022 led to a feeling of entitlement. Daboll's staff felt he'd stopped listening and there was constant "finger-pointing," multiple team sources told ESPN. "It was like, 'Are we on the same team?' It sure doesn't feel like it," one coach said. ..... "We were all trying to get out of there," a non-defensive coach said. Special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey and offensive line coach Bobby Johnson were fired on Black Monday. Running backs coach Jeff Nixon, tight ends coach Andy Bischoff, assistant offensive line coach Chris Smith, and director of strength and performance Craig Fitzgerald also all willing departed. I wish Jaxon Dart the best. On 9/23/2025 at 11:45 AM, Buffalo03 said: I was thinking about picking up the Chargers D in fantasy this week since they play the Giants this week. But now with Dart, I'm kinda having Justin Herbert vibes from his rookie year when he made his first start at the last second after Tyrod couldn't play. Of course, the Chiefs who I believe Herbert played didn't prepare for him. The Chargers will have a weeks worth of prep for Dart. So I am torn Do you think Wilson was the sum total of the Giants offensive struggles? Edited September 24 by Beck Water Quote
