Feels like the ravens bait you into short throws and then they close at an absolutely absurd rate and tackle insanely well

an extra yard or two of yac on a lot of those short throws would’ve changed a lot but the ravens were stopping receivers in their tracks in the open field most of the night

wonder what the plan will be next time because quite a few games in a row against them they’ve been well prepared for that

Thats how McDs defense used to work. They wouldnt let anything over the top. They would dictate to throw short and rally to the ball fast and make the tackle. They just dont seem to rally to the ball anymore and even when they do they miss tackles.

Agreed, defensive players are not allowed to shove the receiver out of bounds unless they are in the process of catching the ball. They can shove the receiver and have some physical contact within five yards of the LOS, but the back of the end zone was well past that.

Technically, they can shove them while the QB is scrambling outside of the pocket up until the qb throws the ball.  I remember I think it was Richard Sherman shoved McKenzie to the ground in the endzone and this board, including me, was in an uproar about it for no flag but it turns out that was a legal play because the QB was scrambling outside the pocket at the time of the shove. I'm not saying thats what happened in this case as I don't know where Josh was at the time of this shove.

As a unit they're average at best.

Shakir is a baller and a reliable target. I'm still not sold on Coleman. The knock on Gabe Davis was his limited route running ability. How is Coleman an improvement in that regard?

I can only imagine Josh with an truly elite receiver that requires constant double teams.  And yes, Diggs was really good, but elite? I don't know.

Gabe Davis isn't running this tree. Nor does Davis have the hands if he did.

Allen's passing chart. They didn't chart any other receiver besides Coleman.

Compared to Lamar

Lamar still like that middle of the field a lot.

Coleman was getting an avg of 7.7 yards of cushion and averaged 3.7 yards of separation. That separation was good enough to be 13th in the league. Tyreek Hill was averaging 3.8.  Flowers was getting 5.3 ugh.

I know this is so last year, but last night’s game was an example of “everybody eats”.  5 different players had at least 4 receptions, with at least one of each receiver’s reception being over 20 yards.

9 different players caught passes, 4 WRs, 3 TEs & 2 RBs.

We don’t have any superstars at WR, but as a complete receiver group (including TEs & RBs), we are pretty good.    Coleman, Shakir & Palmer all look capable of getting 1000 receiving yards in a season.

Even if the defensive player is not penalized for shoving the receiver out of bounds, that receiver is eligible to catch the ball.  Coleman was shoved out, so the catch should have counted.

Yeah and teams do this crap all the time. Stop playing the defense that has been successful and start playing soft to chew clock. Ravens fans have to be livid

I don't believe they were playing soft though. I believe we just opened our playbook up and let Allen sling it. Something they didn't do earlier.

?????

Is this based on Josh throwing for 400 every week?

Section 1 - FORWARD PASS

ARTICLE 6. INELIGIBLE RECEIVERS

All offensive players other than those identified in Article 5 above are ineligible to catch a legal or illegal forward pass thrown from behind the line of scrimmage, including:

Players who are not on either end of their line or at least one yard behind it when the ball is snapped;

Players who fail to notify the Referee of being eligible as required by Article 5;

An eligible receiver who has been out of bounds prior to or during a pass, either by his own volition or by being legally forced out, even if he has reestablished himself inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; or

A player who takes his stance as a T-Formation Quarterback unless, before the ball is snapped, he legally moves to a position at least one yard behind the line of scrimmage or on the end of the line and is stationary in that position for at least one second before the snap.

Still feel we need a deep threat. We have a big arm QB and no speed threat. There were a few times in the game nobody could get open. and for some weird reason the Ravens decided to play soft coverage in the 4th quarter.

Enter a speedster like Zay Flowers...

I’m not predicting all 3 of Palmer, Coleman & Shakir will get to 1000 receiving yards this season.  That would be remarkable & record setting.    I just think they each have the potential to get there.

In other words, I wouldn’t be surprised if any one of those 3 receivers had 1000 yards this season. This would be assuming Josh will get close his last 5 season average of 4200 passing yards.

We’ll see.

Josh’s passing totals have dropped significantly with Brady at OC. He missed that 4200 average by about 500 yards last year.

I think the odds that none of them get 1000 are pretty high and the odds that Palmer has 1000 to be approaching 0.
