Bananas at Tops were 55 cents per pound. Now they’re 59.

You are either not arguing in good faith or you’re flat out lying

Most grocery items as you claimed, or some grocery items?

No thanks, I’m not playing this game you like to use to deflect.

Tariffs are taxes on consumers. T’was always thus, and always thus shall be.

They are a tax on producers - who still need to sell you stuff at a price you’re willing to pay.

They could be an indirect tax on consumers - who can just choose to buy something else.

In 2025, options aplenty.

This is your admission that you spoke falsely when you said “most grocery items”. Happens a lot.

So if they're a tax on producers, how is that not "theft" too? It's only theft if it is a tax on consumers?

You sound like one of them communists.

You’re either lying or you don’t live in the U.S. as most grocery goods, especially bananas and coffee, have increased in price due to tariff surcharges. Tops even has it on their signage.

Ok, come on. "Especially bananas and coffee"?  What kind of freaky stuff do you city folk have going on that an increase in bananas and coffee causes such stress?

Roundy to partygoers:  "Ok people, listen up!  Banana prices are through the roof, so a maximum of 5 per pairing!"

@B-Man Let's just say that while I don't know what kind of economics they taught at St. Bonaventure c. 1970, I do now have some insight into how Bob Lanier died bankrupt.

Is this an attempt at wit? It can be hard to tell with you.

Maybe you have Lanier confused with someone else as you did George Scott and CC Sabathia.

Uh, producers don’t just eat the costs. They get passed directly to the consumer.

I don’t like or dislike the tariffs.. it feels kind of haphazard to me at the moment, but we’re told it’s a tax on us and this and that…

Maybe Tops should stop gaslighting you because gas is definitely down and we don’t have any price hikes down here at Publix.

Wish I was blest enough to have a Publix near me. I’d even take a Kroger

You ain't lived until you shop at a Piggly Wiggly.  It is second only to the mighty Buc-ee's, but only if you live on roasted nuts & beef jerky

Is Food Lion still around? Nothing said "you're in the south" like the Food Lion meat fridge.

Yea.. there are some Food Lions in the Carolinas.

Dont think I’ve seen any in Georgia though.

Publix, Ingles, Kroger (Georgia) and Food Lion (Carolinas) is mainly what I come across with Harris Teeter’s and Aldi’s starting to pop up a good bit.

So you oppose all taxes?

Good.  Me too.

Create a tax free environment for all.

Between income taxes and tariff fees I’ll take much less of the former.

Not ONE NYTimes or Market Watch alerts for this today.

It’s a soul crushing narrative for the commies can’t have this out there.

Imagine 12 straight months like this.

Please excuse my ignorance, but would someone please explain what government surplus means? What's the importance of it?

In June, for the first time in 20 years, the Federal Government took in more revenue than we spent.
