JM Smucker becomes latest food manufacturer to remove artificial colors from popular brands

The J.M. Smucker Co. joined a growing list of food giants that are pledging to eliminate FD&C artificial dyes from its products within the next two years, aligning with the Trump administration's goals of removing artificial colors from the nation's food supply.

Smucker's said this commitment, announced Friday, will affect its sugar-free fruit spreads and ice cream toppings as well as certain products from its Hostess brand portfolio. The company also said it's working with its distribution partners to no longer sell products with FD&C colors to K-12 schools by the 2026 – 2027 school year.

Smucker's, whose family of brands includes Folgers, Dunkin', Café Bustelo, Jif, Uncrustables, Smucker's and Hostess, said most of its consumer foods are already free of FD&C colors, including a majority of its products currently available to K-12 schools.

Hershey to Remove Synthetic Dyes From Its Snacks by End of 2027

Hershey Co. will remove synthetic dyes from its snacks by the end of 2027, the latest in a string of major food companies that have announced similar moves.

The Pennsylvania-based maker of Hershey’s chocolates, Jolly Ranchers candy and SkinnyPop popcorn cited the challenges of navigating the profusion of new state legislation around food dyes.

“There is a patchwork of state regulations emerging that is creating confusion and will ultimately increase consumer costs,” a Hershey spokesperson said Monday. “Removing these colors is a natural next step in our program to ensure consumers have options to fit their lifestyle while maintaining trust and confidence in our products.”

Cool. So we will get rid of Red Dye #3 and bring back Measles. That’s a fair trade. Thanks Bobby!

Edit: to be clear, I do agree with removing those insane dyes in everything - compare US Fruit Loops to UK, for example - but I loathe this man for his anti-vaccine rhetoric.

Weird. Did I misspell “measles” as “covid?”

Checks note… nope.

if he wanted to eliminate the covid vaccine that Trump rushed to market with operation warp speed, I’d be fine with that.

To imply vaccines, including the ***** measles vaccine, causes autism? He’s a danger to children.

After watching Big Pharma's behavior during Covid I think there's a good chance vaccines ARE contributing to autism.

It's a lot easier to recover from Measles than from Autism.
