HOWARD STERN E! R.I.P.

Howard Stern = David Letterman.

A generation ago, they were "hip", "relevant", "edgy" etc. and college kids and 20-somethings went nuts for them.

Now they're both pushing 60, and the college kids and 20-somethings look at them and what do they see? A person of "Dad's age" trying to be "hip".

Embarassing.

And when all else fails...let's have some chicks show their breasts and make out!!!

And you can hear the Stern 'repeataphraseometer.'

"Wow. Look at that. That's a nice ass. Really nice. If I had that ass, you know what I'd do with it. Yeah. I'd spank it, that's what I'd do with it. In fact, I like being spanked myself sometimes. I even like to spank myself when no one's looking. In fact, allow me to spend the next ten minutes ignoring the guest and making this all about me."

As Ralph Kramden would say: Har-dee-har-har. You're a real riot, Alice. A regular riot. <_<

diff't strokes for diff't folks...I find DOn Imus to be a step below root canal surgery...but some like his monotone, lack of humor, try my salsa style....I think he is terrible...sometimes Howard gets boring, but IMO, some of his bits lately have been funnier than ever..Richard Christie freakin kills me....I have been listening to Stern since the early 1990's and find his show as funny as it has ever been

That is terrible analysis. Letterman has never "tried to be hip" in his life, which is the base of his comedy. That fate is much more likely to fall on Conan in his old age, and earlier time-slot. Letterman is still the best network talk show host...Conan is pretty damn funny, but after all this time, is still a terrible interviewer. I think that is why they are sure to have a skit between each guest.

As far as Stern goes, I have always had a love/hate thing with his show. I think often, he is capable of much more than he does...and is a pretty sharp person, but all too often he stoops to "lowest common denominater" humour (not always bad, but bad if it is always), or bitterness. That said, after losing interest in him years ago, I found his show compelling during the most recent presidential campaign...I am all for anyone that cares about our govenrment sticking its' proverbial nose where it doesn't belong. Ultimately it didn't do any good, as he has now been chased off to satellite radio. I remember the good old days when radio was free...

At this point, Stern has more in common with Bill Moyers than David Letterman...

Amen tater. I love folks who think they are "above" Sterns type of humor and knock those who enjoy it.

Exactly. Get over yourselves. To each their own, live and let live, etc. Please don't preach to me or bestow upon the rest of us your wisdom and how we all should think. As for more and more people tuning out, the numbers just don't back that up.

While his E! show was OK, I wish he'd surface somewhere with something more like his old channel 9 show. Those were classic!

Preferably on a pointed fencepost off a 30-story high-dive.

Of course, I'm the only person in the world who thinks Stern is a waste of oxygen and revels in bringing everyone down to their lowest common denominator, so don't go by me. Hell, I don't even have an iPod. How can Generation iPodless even begin understand how to appreciate the genius of Stern.

I have said this before and I'll say it again...

You sir are a funny FUNNY man!

Thanks for the laugh... from one Generation IPodlees to another!

It's because the Channel 9 show had more bits and less people on soley trying to make a name for themselves, promote a website etc. Not to mention back then there was no Jerry Springer, Maury etc. Throw in there was a certain writer that was still on the show that shall remain nameless <_<

I give Howard credit but just the same he's become stale and boring in part because is it has lost some of it's edge. As today's culture isn't as shocked by lesbians or pornographers or talk about sex/drugs etc. inpart because of Stern and society on the whole is not nearly as conservative as it was 20 years ago. It's not saying I don't enjoy watch him on E! from time to time but more often then not it gets repetitive and boring. I understand Stern's genius is he doesn't take himself or the showtoo seriously in it can satire itself yet at the same time it did rely on a very strong cast of charachters that have moved on in either death or tiredness of the show or just aren't as funny now as they were in more conservative times or just moved onto other things.

Sure it does.  There's a lot of controversy that goes with having Stern on your channel.  Add in the fact that there was a recent changing of the guard at the top of the network and I think it adds up to an executive looking to put their mark on the network and start by getting rid of programming that they didn't generate.

oh yeah...shows like "Party at the Palms" are much less sexual <_<

Buddy Hackett was put off? He may be the only dirtier, sicker, more repulsive entertainer in the country ahead of Stern.  <_<

365346[/snapback]

Buddy Hackett (RIP) was the funniest comedian I ever saw. He did not play blue for the shock effect (which is what Howard does). He did it as part of his routine. You either love Buddy or you don't. You either love Howard or you don't. There is no middle ground here.

Good riddens to his, no class, moronic show about sluts and idiots. They can all crawl back under the rock together.

I am definitely not knocking anyone's taste or "preaching".

But go up to any 20-year-old male and mention 3 things:

1. Howard Stern

2. David Letterman

3. "Adult Swim"

Chances are, (1) or (2) won't even show up on their radar screen.

But (3) does.

I think the term is "generation gap".

My apologies if I insinuated that I'm above Stern's humor, and I particularly don't want to leave the impression that people who find Stern's humor funny have no sense of humor, because that just makes me a mutated version of Stern himself.

It's just a personal choice. Besides, if he didn't suck so bad, people wouldn't pay attention to him. <_<

That's the funny thing, shows like that are allowed to air without comment, but there's something about Howard that attracts an impassioned response. It's much easier to get attention for yourself or your group if you attack a known name rather than just some random show.
