Non profit status enables up to 10% for the specific charter of the Red Cross. The business entity of the red cross takes in 10%. They also make money on the resale of. I'm going off of memory here but I know it's over $1.5b that the red cross makes by selling free blood to hospitals. Over 75% of their operating budget is produced from selling blood.

Well, I guess they give you donated oranges, a sticker, and some water...

bitter oranges.  wtf man, they're are good people other than your favored helpers.  And I'd wager they're more effective.

elitism to the max.  but still a crying shame.  It's a monument to capitalism and greed.  Open to the public again who knows when.

It's way too expensive. I just have no interest in going. Ever.

And responding to your other post the $2b operational cost all made back by volunteers giving blood to be sold back to us in a hospital for 10x the rate. ... That's your capitalism.

dude, plenty of people give blood gratis.  red cross is not the only source.  but go ahead, make altruism bad.  unless you own a helicopter...I saw the Chilhuly exhibit weeks before the flood.  f'in spectacular.  Lots of everyday folks did.  I'm hoping the glass wasn't broke but if so I'm sure the artist will make it right.

The mansion wasn't badley impacted. The video I shared above is above lake lure, mostly in bat cave below chimney rock. Check that out if you haven't.  Not much from swva has been show yet.

It’s bad enough for sure. People have lost their homes and businesses. I think most will stay. Where is safer?

In less than 16 hours there was more than $2,500 of material donated at my wife's hospital for her to take up on sunday. I'm hoping this momentum doesn't abruptly end.

Make that $5,000. My mother-in-law's neighborhood dropped off a whole bunch of stuff at her house.

“They’re being treated very badly in the Republican areas,” Trump told Fox News, ignoring reports and photo and video evidence of recovery efforts underway throughout the region. “They’re not getting water, they’re not getting anything.”

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones endorsed Trump’s fact-free allegation. Jones, the founder of InfoWars, popularized the idea that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut that killed 20 children in 2012 was faked. “Exclusive: Victims of Hurricane Helene Confirm The Federal Government is Purposely Blocking Rescuers and Stealing Aid In an Attempt to Keep Deep Red Areas From Voting,” Jones posted Thursday on X.

Ya'll are in good company with Jones and trump.  be proud....

Oh the irony coming from a fake doctor.

Black.  White.

Up. Down.

Yes. No.

Waters wet. No, that's Russian disinfo

JFK was an inside job, Nancy Reagan did it. No it was Lee Greenwood.

Seriously, the blinders are funny. Half of everything is right that's being said. Aid is there. Logistics and supply chains are hard. More than enough volunteers. Even more up there to pose on social media they're "heeellppping."

The fake Dr Joe's even going to help. Not with doctor stuff, but he's going to do a crayon by numbers with the locals to cleanse the vibe, of course.

This is just annoying as ***** seeing everyone run their mouth. It's a disaster. Not enough can be done right now. Efforts were screwed up at first, sure. But now is where the rubber meets the road and ***** needs to happen and all I see are people running their mouth everywhere.

Except for "Dr" Joe. He's said he's going to be helping but probably  just sniffing all the glue donated to make sure it's non toxic.  That's more than about everyone here. Commend him for that, at the least.
