A Few Thoughts about the Ravens Game, in no particular order

The difference in the game, two big plays:

  1. The non PI call, and for the life of me I do not know why McD did not throw out the red flag. TO are overrated, that took at least three points off the board. But, as Fouts ranted, Foster got mugged, a red flag should not have been needed. There were two official there, I cannot see how they didn't call it.
  2. The long TD pass. The only passes the LJ can make are over the middle and to TEs. Why was he running so open? Take away that play and the game is tied.

Ugh.

Coach McD did not throw the flag for every other time he threw it with as much or more evidence referees refused to overturn.

The only way to really get their attention is to start using zebras in pick plays and maybe if opposing defense hits zebras enough they will start making calls.

Individual tiebreakers go out the window when there's a 3-way

According to Buffalo Rumblings....

Thanks to a host of tiebreakers at their disposal, the Buffalo Bills would clinch at least the number five seed with a win Sunday night over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Buffalo wouldn’t just clinch a Wild Card spot, they’d clinch the top Wild Card spot and still be in the race for the AFC East.

That’s because of the tiebreakers at their disposal. At 10 wins, the Bills would be certain of a 10-6 season or better and the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers would be the only two teams that could join them in the Wild Card with that record. Buffalo would own the head-to-head tiebreaker against both teams, thus securing the five seed. (In any scenario, where the Houston Texans are 10-6, they would win the AFC South over the Titans and not be involved in the conversation.)

Buffalo would also be alive for the AFC East division crown, and could jump as high as the number 1 seed with help. That means they would be playing their butts off in the Week 16 game against the New England Patriots. A loss to New England following a win over Pittsburgh would mean Buffalo could rest their starters in Week 17.

All of it is in front of Buffalo with a win on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, starting their third quarterback of the season.

I agree with you.  But when are are going to be able to start games without having to build up our starting quarterbacks confidence.

He should have been ready to roll after his last three games.  I think that’s why I am so disappointed in how he came out of the gate.

Usually the scripted plays in the beginning are designed to get a QB and the whole offense in a rhythm.  This is not something special for Allen.  All teams do it.  How often do you see a team come out on their first and second series with run, run, bomb?

The worse thing Allen did today was constant bail out of the pocket when he didn't need to.

That's what happens when you are blitzed 30 times with blitz 0 being 16 of them.  You are pressured so much you see ghosts.  Especially young QBs.  Older Qbs throw the ball at their feet or go into the fetal position before being touched.

I remember when Bledsoe was QB for the Bills, I remember reports that they did a drill where he threw deep passes into garbage cans and he became very accurate at it. I wonder if they do that type of drill with Josh.  Also, does i connect on deep passes in practice but gets too jacked up in games?

I think its still just the speed of the game.  He plays well when he has a comfortable pocket or escape routes.   He gets the jibs when he is pressured a lot.  Hopefully with time he gets better.  I think he will.

yes. Only way that happens means Texans get division

Steelers win the Tie break for 5th seed

we win Head to Head tie break for 6th seed.

One win out of 3 and we are in.

I think we would win the tie break for the 5th seed by beating the Steelers next week?

Texans get division. 3 way tie is Titans, Pittsburg, Bills.  Bills have the head to head against both so there is no way we would be the 6th seed.  We would be the 5th.

Well, Virg.  I think that you nailed it again.

Indeed, and outside of what you wrote, I wonder what it will take (I'm excluding poor QB play at the moment) for the Bills to have guys who can consistently catch the ball again.  I literally just watched the game against Miami (from 1990) on YouTube Saturday afternoon (mercifully my wife was at a craft fair) and I could not believe how "sandlot" Jim Kelly played the game.  It was sloppy, and JK has easily been my favorite Bills' QB, but still... if Lofton can't catch and Reed can't catch then this game was over.

I'm not bringing this up to trash JK because he's The Man.  I'm bringing this up to say that that man rolled the dice, and he would lose.  Sometimes.

I am a little disappointed in him. Considering the weather conditions and the Ravens slight weakness stoping the run, I cannot believe we didn’t pound the running game more. It’s not all on Daboll but it seemed like they were not ready for all the blitzing that the Ravens did.

I will probably watch it 5 more times tonight after I get off work. I think Allen missed on a lot of big plays with some of the blitz packages the Ravens used. Knox needs to be better, I know TE/WR’s take time to gel and learn the game but a lot of offensive players had bad games.

Feed Devin Singletary the football,

until his legs fall off...

I agree...

The play where we were on the 1/2 yard line and the run started from 5 yards

back. Why not Allen under center and just push the pile.

I can’t be expected to remember things 24 hours later. I know a game was played, but not against who or the score
