LSHMEAB Posted April 10, 2019 Share Posted April 10, 2019 The logic behind the term "edge" is that so many players are now utilized as a DE/OLB hybrids. "EDGE" is a simplification for exterior pass rushers who are neither true DE's or OLB's. Shaq Lawson is DE. Matt Milano is an OLB(a great one by the way who doesn't get the credit he deserves.) MLB's aren't the answer to everything on defense, but they're the ones I want setting the tone. Outside of great roles played by great players, Bruce, Deion, Reggie, the truly intimidating defenses have been anchored by the linebackers.
