Is No. 1 Ranking Legit or a Mirage?

If they're holding opponents to 50% TD's on those possessions, it actually makes the overall 67% rate look even worse.

They need to fix that.

The 67% is kind of meaningless. The red zone is arbitrary. Take for example the Chicago Bears. They have a rate of 68.4% which is worse than the Bills yet they are given up  2.1 TD's/ game to the Bills 2.4 TD's /game. The Houston Texans have an even worse rate of 73.9% and are giving up the same number of TD's as the Bears, 2.1 TD's/ game. At the other extreme is the Raiders with a 51.4% rate while giving up 3.33 TD's /game.

It may be arbitrary, but it's far from meaningless. You're clearly cherry picking teams.

If you want to play that game, Tennessee and Minnesota have the number 1 and 2 ranked RZ defenses. There's a reason Tennessee is 5-4 despite an atrocious offense and Minnesota is Minnesota.

New England hasn't had a great defense in years, but they're always among the best in the RZ. This season has been an anomaly for them as they're giving up a terrible 60%. That's STILL better than Buffalo. It's not a coincidence that their RZ defense generally outperforms other defensive metrics. It's important.

The Bills need to get better there. It's really that simple.

I think they need a few things before they become 'great'.  A second CB is a must, Hughes is old and will need to have his pass rushing skills replaced, a pass rusher inside to replace Kyle and a 3rd young linebacker.  They are close but not quite great.  Need more firepower in the pass rush which will help to cause more INTs.  Very encouraged to this point though.  All of the young players seem to have made strides and are developing.
