Offensive identity

Call it prehistoric, outdated, or whatever. This is not a run and gun offense, we just don't have the guns for that yet. This is still a ground and pound offense and that's what works for them. We have Shady and now Chris Ivory who is a major upgrade over Mike Tolbert. This is the strength of the offense, and just what Allen needs to help in his development. He's nowhere near ready to carry the offense yet - and he really doesn't need to. The identity of the offense remains bang away with the running game, work the short passing game, and wear down the opponent's  defense.  That's what's going to work for them while Allen continues to learn and develop. Let's just hope his accuracy gets better over time

It's honestly the best situation you can give Allen - alleviates the pressure of having to always carry the offense. That being said, he still needs to lead these guys to win games, and establish himself as the QB moving forward. But in terms of development, if Shady and Ivory can manage positive yards on every drive and be the foundation of this offense, Allen has the opportunity to really focus in on the passing plays, and make progress. Two caveats, one being the OLine. Shady and Ivory can only consistently perform behind a dominant run block OLine. To this extent the OL has been successful, but nothing to lean on by any means. The ability for this moving forward entirely depends on our OLine.

The second caveat of course being we don't want to develop Allen into a game manager QB - we still want him to develop a feel for throwing the ball the majority of the time, as this is a QB driven passing league. But everything in time.

I wouldn’t mind seeing more bubble screens to Ray Ray and Zay.  Basically an extension of the run game.

I don’t trust any of these guys to run slants.  All I see are balls bouncing off their hands straight to the defenders.

Run game, bubble screens, short outs, deep posts, seam routes, bootlegs and a few playaction deep shots.

I really hate some of the routes they run. That route Holmes ran on the INT was not crisp at all. I'd like to see them run more of the Packers type of routes. Some picks to help them get open. Some quick outs and more dig routes. Benjamin in particular should run more quick outs toward the sidelines and digs across the QBs face.

With the talent we have at the skill positions I'd say this was a good call.

For right now, from a passing standpoint, his accuracy needs a lot of work so he's going to have to nickle and dime defenses to death with quick short shots that he can hit easily just to keep the chains moving and the defense off the field.

Teams are playing a lot of press coverage against us.  Bubble screens don't really work in that situation.  Slants are tricky too since timing is off.

Really have to attack the deep boundaries since its likely 1x1 coverage with the single high safety.

True.  I think “pick play” bubble screens could get 5-10 yards here and there but complete agree with you on attacking deep boundaries.

If im Allen and Benjamin, I’m spending an hour every practice this week working on back shoulder throws.

The pick plays should work, but its a timing thing.  Ball needs to be there at a specific time - etc.  It may take a few weeks to install something like that.

The backshoulders have to improve - its a simple 1x1 play, and whether contested or not, benjamins size advantage should win the majority of those plays.  Hitches and out looked better this week, but i really do think they need to start connecting on some deep balls too.  This includes benjamin.
