ACID! Somebody please help!

Recommended Posts

You forgot the salt.  Can't get by without salt.

Then chase that with an espresso.

On a more serious note regarding a serious problem, I had problems with heartburn, but not to the extent that you seem to have. As soon as I cut coffee out of my diet and replaced it with tea, I need my caffeine, I no longer had problems.

That being said, go see a doctor, preferably someone recommended by someone with a similar problem. There are serious medical issues at hand here.

Don't focus within. Get outside and focus on nature and take your mind off of it until the acid wears off. Or see if you can eat some food to bring you down. They don't make blotter like they used to. I suggest in the future use shrooms instead, they are much MUCH smoother on the way down.

If you know what I mean ...

Yeah man I headed down to Portsmouth Medical Center today. They gave me the crazy pink pill and it did the trick. Got a nice refill thingy on it also, all I got to do is call. I hate going to medical!

They said it could be a number of things. I eat dinner about 6 and then run about a hour later. He said that can cause things to roll around. He said my body's reaction to running after dinner may cause my system to not want to shut down when im sleeping. He has some crazy name for it. No more running in the evening. Ill just take a nice walk or do some yard work. I might as well leave work now that im on shore duty and work out on my work hours. Everyone else does! Shore duty is so friggin nice..... Bills games for the next 3 years! Thanks for the advice guys. Nice to see there are some good people on this board.

As far as Motrin, Man I got LOADS and LOADS of it sitting here. 800mg and they hand the crap out like bubblegum!

I have the same problem - it goes away completely when I reduce carbs.

Also consider dairy products a possible culprit.

I echo the other suggestions about avoiding coffee (I'm down to one cup) and aspirin.

For some people changing diet doesn't work, but I am pleased to say that for me, if I keep my carbs low I can actually eat jalepeno-stuffed olives without a second thought.

Good luck.

What the heck do I do about Acid reflux?  Its so dang bad that it wakes me up in the middle of the night with the worst taste in the world in my mouth.  I had it come up the other night and it was very stong, some went down the wrong tube and I though I was going to die!  What causes this?  I went online and read about the medicine, the side effects from the medicine sound like the same crap im having!

My diet is simple, I really dont eat spicy stuff.  I only drink Crystal Light Ice tea and water.  I never eat after 6:30pm.

What causes this and How do I stop it!  Does the medicine work well for it?  Gosh please respond!!!!!!

For the night problem, make sure your bed is level or inclined so you aren't worsening it via gravity.

Hey Navy...I don't know if this will work...but it's why the other cat recommened OJ....and I thought it was crazy at first too...until I tried and it worked for my heartburn. Eat a dill pickle. No joke. Why? Because just like the OJ it's acidic - and that's actually what your tummy wants.

See what's ussually happening is your body is still trying to digest FATS and feels it doesn't have enough acid allready to do the trick (the mess hall food could be causing it- I'm sure it's not gormet quality)...so it keeps producing acid trying to breakdown the remainder of your dinner.

I used to use tums too...but try this before the pink pill next time...worth a shot.

failing that a three day fast and cleanse might help...

(my heartburn is caused by cheap vegatable oil...switched to olive oil and I could drink the stuff without any problem)

oh yeah...excessive salt causes heartburn too

Good luck!

Simple: You probably have GERD - Acid Reflux Disease.

If you find acid coming up at night, and you also find yourself popping antacids like skittles - you most likely are a member of the club.

There are several factors that can lead to GERD. Diet, weight, and other factors can lead to the weakening of the esophageal sphincter a vital piece of our anatomy that is supposed to keep the acid where it belongs - in our stomach. Another possible cause for the malfuction of the esophageal sphincter is a hiatal hernia.

The best advice I can give you as someone who has gone through this, is that the best medicine out there is PROTONIX (pantoprazole sodium). I tried herbal suppliments, antacids, changes of diet (heck I got to the point where I didn't want to eat anything), and over the counter drugs like ranitidine - they all didn't work, or had equally bad side-effects.

I hate being dependant on any drug, but the Protonix helped me period. I also took my doctors advice (after finally going to a specialist) and slid a board under the top of my bed to raise that part up when I sleep. It has worked really well.

Good luck to you, and I hope my experience will help you avoid the long road I took to getting help that worked.

i had acid reflux for a few years.  and it got to the point where i couldn't take it anymore.

first thing i suggest if it is really bad is see your dr.

my dr. scheduled an upper gi for me.

then prescribed something called Protonix.  Works great and have had no problems in two years.

i will also add...when i went on the low carb diet last year....it took all my acid reflux away and i didn't need to take the medicine.

I didn't see your post, or I would have saved myself some typing. I just got through telling him about Protonix, and how it is helping me get back on my feet again. I am getting a better handle on the diet piece, but I do believe that the medicine is giving my body a chance to heal from years of just "dealing" with the acid.

You give me hope though, that I will be able to dump the pill requirements someday down the road.
