If by "game" you mean a contest between two teams....

Yes, the game ended on the TD pass.

The PAT was a silly formality.  By rule, there was no way possible that the Saints coudl have won on the PAT kick.  Therefore, the contest was over after the Vikings scored onthe TD pass.

So the criteria for the actual last play(in this case the PAT) is dependent on if any result of that PAT or other last play can change the winner?????

So if the PAT can not change the winner it does not count as the last play??

But if it can change the winner of the game it does count as the last play??

That just makes no sense.

A contest/game or whatever you want to call it is not over until the LAST play is played. In Vikings case it was the PAT. If the game was over after the Diggs score than the Saints should have stayed in the locker room and avoided the humiliation of a play that did not count.

As you said the winner was decided. But the game had not ended yet.

Most great offensive plays wouldn't happen if defenders just do their jobs.  The HRTB may or may not have been legal, but it wouldn't have mattered if the Bills ST players had stayed in their lanes.  The Cinci miracle finish that put the Bills in the playoffs wouldn't have happened if the Ravens DBs had played their positions right.  The Minnesota miracle depended on a spectacularly bad play by the Saints DB.

I guess this is why you try those plays.  Usually they don't work but when they do it's a special event.
