The "Just Give it to Them" Game...

That game was the beginning of the "screw the Bills, help the Pats" era of officiating, I believe. Not long after that game, there was the "unconscious player" on the sidelines fumble/non-fumble call that bailed out the Pats and cost the Bills yet another significant game. Can anyone shed some light on that?

NE's first super bowl I believe.  Bills were awful that year playing a late season game against the upstart Pats.  Tie game late in the 4th quarter, BIlls cornerback(I believe it was Thomas Smith, not sure though) knocks the Patriots wide receiver out, Bills pick the ball up that is just laying on the ground for an apparent go ahead TD, the football laying on the turf barely grazing the NE players leg, the knocked out NE players head rolls on the out of bounds line.  Refs review it & said because the NE players head was touching the out of bounds line the ball was ruled out of bounds.  Game goes to OT, & NE RB & former bill Antwan Smith runs a 50 yard TD run for the game winner.

That's same old to me!  The BILLS were 0 for the 70's against Miami.  It's not as bad as it looks but every close play went against the BILLS.  Don Shula was on the "rules committee." so they were pretty much immune to close calls going against Miami.

I was not alive for the 70s but my Dad distinctly spoke of a Bills Phins game where Buffalo had the lead we punted and the Miami player never called for the catch or something like that, Buffalo made a clean hit that forced a fumble but the ref threw the flag anyway. Miami proceeded to go down and score for the win. It was something in this regard I am sure someone know better then I what happened and utter BS to the level of Benjamin or "Just Give It To Them"

Yes

In my mind this is when i started hating the pats and boston in general...

It ended up costing buffalo a home playoff game and momentum for the div title...

Ralph Wilson and up writing a letter 2 Paul taglia boo about how disgusting he was with the officiating

It was a pretty public and disturbing letter in the NFL ended up finding Wilson like a quarter million dollars it was pretty bad

My stomach was ill for about 2 weeks after that game total con job

exactly spot on! I remember Andre Reed going crazy on the sideline, after the game, he said as the two zebras conferred, one said to the other, "just give it to 'em." Kinda when all the crap in New England started, moved onward with the tuck rule game. God I hate those cheating pricks!

It's the biggest reason I CANT STAND watching the NE games (besides losing all the time, of course).

I told my wife at the time of the KB TD that their was FULL EVIDENCE that it was a catch, but since it's NE, there is no doubt it will get overturned. I blanking hate being right.

I am getting sick of this crap and it makes me root for something I don't want to do..,........

root for a player, or players on NE to get hurt.

My frustration over this BS is at an all time level now.

Don't know you folks feel, but, I think you guys might in the same boat as me.

EXACTLY how I feel!

The play against Miami was brutal.  They had come back and were on fire, and Morris was upended, and the ball came out before he hit the ground.  He was called "down by contact," no fumble.  And Toomay, who recovered the fumble, was penalized 15 yards for bumping the ref as he went for the ball.  The team was going nuts.  On the next play, they ran a draw play to Don Nottingham, the human bowling ball, who ran right up the middle for 55 yards.  The ref's name was Pat Bergman, and after the game Wilson declared he would never call another Bills game.  Wilson was fined, but Bergman never called another Bills game.

The next week, there was a ref hanging in effigy in the Rich tunnel.

I was there.  It was the famous Chuck Foreman snowball game.

Yep. there was also the 1978 game where Roland Hooks made a catch late in the game that would have put the Bills in FG range to win the game. The ref behind Hooks called it incomplete. It was a clear catch. The Bills lost 25-24.

Ralph Wilson got fined after that game for berating the officials.

Miami definitely got their share of shady calls back then, kinda like the Patsys do now!

I don't, however, think it was anywhere what N.E. has benefited from the last few years, especially this year! Without officials help, they could have 4 more losses, and we could be fighting for the division this week.

Man, that was some definite BS.

Also, it's crazy to think how many times Flutie threw for 300 yards in one season... The NFL wasn't even the passing league it is now. If we had a QB like him right now we'd be killing it :)

He had a  total of 3 games over 300 yards of throwing
