No, he played the comic book guy chasing the lesbian Joely Adams.

Dogma was outstanding as well, and I thoroughly enjoyed Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. In fact, if I recall, isn't that the movie where Affleck and Damon are standing around in the movie studio busting each other's balls about the crappy movies they were in?

Oh.  I don't think I've seen it.

There is one he was in w/Sandra Bullock that my wife likes.  I just can't remember the name of it.  I guess I could just check Google and stop being so damn lazy.

Found it. It was called Forces of Nature. I didn't see it, but my wife says it's good.

That was the one, including Bob (Kevin Smith) lamenting that the guys that he launched are bigger than he is.

BTW, Rich, even though I hate turning people off google, here's the movie bible.

Of the nominees for Best Actor that year:

Russell Crowe -- A Beautiful Mind {"John Nash"}

Sean Penn -- I Am Sam {"Sam Dawson"}

Will Smith -- Ali {"Muhammad Ali"}

Denzel Washington -- Training Day {"Alonzo"}

Tom Wilkinson -- In the Bedroom {"Matt Fowler"}

I had no problem with Denzel winning it.  I also would've been okay w/Russell Crowe getting it.  Will Smith was great in Ali, but I thought Jamie Foxx was just as good playing Bundini Brown in that movie and should've been nominated.  Speaking of the supporting actors, I saw Iris and thought it was a good movie and Broadbent was good in the role, but I thought he was better in Moulin Rouge that year.  I also thought Ethan Hawke was great in Training Day and was just as good as Denzel was.

As far as the actress race went:

Halle Berry -- Monster's Ball {"Leticia Musgrove"}

Judi Dench -- Iris {"Iris Murdoch"}

Nicole Kidman -- Moulin Rouge {"Satine"}

Sissy Spacek -- In the Bedroom {"Ruth Fowler"}

Renée Zellweger -- Bridget Jones's Diary {"Bridget Jones"}

That one could've just as easily gone to Renee Zellweger for Bridget Jones' Diary or Nicole Kidman for Moulin Rouge.  All 3 were very good.  Judi Dench was okay in Iris, nothing special though.

I can't say I agree with you on either take. In that group and for those films, Denzel would have finished last on my ballot. For that reason, my feeling is they gave him the award as kind of a "sorry about being really wrong about Malcom X" while at the same time flipping the bird to the much more deserving though anti-establishment Russell Crowe. I saw the film the day it came out and didn't leave the theater thinking Oscar.

As for Halle Berry, I don't think she deserved to be nominated either and about the only thing memorable about that film was Peter Boyle's portrayal of the racist father and the infamous living room scene - which looked like low budget porn.

Awww, you can say you agree with me. Go ahead. I'll let you.

No problem. That's the beauty of free thought. Crowe was awesome in A Beautiful Mind, as he was the year before in Gladiator and the year before that in The Insider, which is a great movie. Never would've thought it either, after seeing him break into the biz in that stupid Virtuosity movie (which, ironically, starred Denzel Washington). The boy done good.

Halle was deserving, I thought, for Monster's Ball. There's more to that movie than Peter Boyle's performance (he was very good, as he often is) and that awkward love scene ("make me feel good"........ewwwwwww!!!). Sean Combs was surprisingly good in his role, as was Mos Def and the kid who played Halle Berry's son.

Any of you guys a fan of Adrien Brody? He was amazing in The Pianist......he was also in a film I saw recently called 'Dummy'. Kind of a quirky film about friendship and maturity. Not a great film, but I definitely found it worth the 90 minute investment.

It left such an impression on me that I had forgot those 2 were in the movie.

Have to agree with you on this one. (But, low budget porn? seen many high productions?) Berry was fantastic in Dorothy Dandridge. I thought the casting was terrible for her Ball role. After all, she still looked like Halle Berry in it, and not like what Charlize Theron did in Monster.

For all you Tom Wilkinson fans, you have to see him in HBO's Normal.

Well in my experience it's pretty much only low budget porn that has an old balding white guy hitting a hot woman. Though my understanding from one "news" report I saw is today that's considered fresh in the industry.

I stayed away from Monster's Ball because the idea of freakshow Billy Bob Wifebeater doing the nasty with Halle Berry was repulsive even in thought. I did not know, unfortunately, that Peter Boyle was in it...and that definitely has my curiosity up.

That was a pretty hot scene. Billy Bob is one lucky man. because he is uglier than a shaved dog's ass , and would never get a sniff of Halle in real life IMHO

Watch (Murphy's law) they get married next week ?

I guess you put Anglina Jolie in the (bad) bow wow category?

Though I find Halle Berry quite the babe, Angelina Jolie is a goddess.......and Mr. shaved dog's ass sure got more than a sniff of her.......lucky bastard

Great lips that could be useful, but the tats kill her for me.

253967[/snapback]

I was fine with her...until she and Billy Bob thought it a good idea to keep a vial of each other's blood hanging around their necks. I love my wife and would gladly give up my life for her if need be...but I'd hafta draw the line at "Let's draw blood and make a necklace out of it."
