Just spitballing here, but wouldn't/doesn't a true leader cut out the middle man and talk with the Republicans himself? Watch the video and see POTUS just gleam when the audience applauds his comments; this "adulation" appears to be the objective for him rather than the hard work of fashioning compromise.

 

Dear Leader, tossing something on the floor and waiting a year for the response you want isn't found anywhere in the lexicon of leadership. Pick up the telephone, make a call, set up a series of meetings and engage in the process leading to a compromise on the issue rather than hurling grenades over the wall. In the long run you denigrate the office of the Presidency plus look petty and ultra-partisan yourself.

Wouldn't a real party like the GOP have a viable alternate plan developed, put in the spotlight of the public to generate support, put it on the floor for debate, vote on it and send it to the Whitehouse?

 

Why doesn't he call? The GOP has NO designs to do anything about immigration - in fact the GOP has no designs to do anything that involves collaboration with BO - after all he is "not their President"....remember?

 

Still waiting for Congress to act on POTUS request for approval and financing to fight ISIS...it is a threat to the Republic and world stability....!

For starters, the numbers of allowable legal immigrants has not kept up with the economic & jobs expansion. There is no provision for temporary worker visas. You fix those things, you will fix a lot of the illegal people smuggling (you know, the evil Bush #43 plan)

Nothing that I've seen is actually attempting to address or reform immigration. This is all simply a way of legalizing the status of people who have entered the country illegally, or are here illegally by overstaying their visas. This is a problem that obviously needs to be addressed one way or another, but real immigration reform should extend to people from Europe, Asia, Australia, etc, and not only to Latin Americans.

In the first sentence are you referring to actions like with the pipeline, consequent veto, and now plan to re-send to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave?

 

Again, a leader will take actions to move his detractors along toward compromise. For example, in one of those meetings, POTUS would say something like this, "You know my position, let's look at your position on the issue." and wouldn't take no for an answer. Meeting after meeting until the intransigence of the opposition became the issue for the public. Meetings that take place between real people. not shots across the bow launched from the Jimmy Kimmel show.

 

And once more, don't assume the opposition has no intention of acting upon [fill in the blank]; set meetings, set the agenda, persevere until compromise is reached. It works in business and works in government when a leader chooses to proceed in that manner.

 

List the issues whereupon POTUS has invested time and effort to reach a point of action by working with the opposition, just type them into your next response. (Don't start your list with the ACA 'cause we'll all laugh out of here.)

The Tea Party is a handy whipping boy for whomever chooses to ignore/deny that the present opposition party puts forth solid positions only to be rebuffed by an intransigent administration. The Republicans won the 2014 elections in a landslide and POTUS will make them pay each and every day for the rest of his term. His legacy will be characterized by tunnel vision focused on punishing those he doesn't like, the vast majority of the public who disagree with his "policies."
