The Bills are not moving to Canada....

Recommended Posts

After reading all the posts about the NFL saying they would like to play a home game in Canada (Toronto), its amazing how people jump to the conclusion that the Bills are moving north....

Its a well known fact that the Bills are one of the more profitable teams in the league (see Forbes magazine article showing the finanical picture of each team).

The Bills have no debt as a team (compare to other teams that owe over a hundred million dollars on new stadiums), a strong fan base, and a great stadium deal.

If you look at current NFL teams, the Vikings and the Saints are in a much, much more precarious postion for remaining in their respective cities. The most important thing to watch in terms of the Bills long term health is the upcoming talks between the player's union and the league regarding revenue sharing. Luckily, (unlike the NHL players), the NFLPA understands that revenue sharing and "cost certainty" (salary cap) is a good thing for players, the smaller market teams, and the NFL as a whole. The Bills are lucky to have Troy Vincent on its team and as a key player in these talks, as he has stated publicly that increasing revenue sharing is a priority for the players in their talks with the owners.

In general, we as Bills fans should welcome more efforts to market the team to Southern Ontario; its now well known that the efforts to reach out to the Rochester market have been a huge success and helped save the team in the late 90's.

There are two fairly probable occurrences that we should worry about. First is that they put a team in Toronto through expansion and it hurts the Bills financially enough that they move to somewhere else. The second one is that the Bills actually move to Toronto, pushed by Tags to do so.

i don't foresee any nfl team in canada... ever. the canadian dollar, the expos mess, and the raptors aren't doing so hot as a franchise. When a player plays there they end up getting less $$... yada ,yada... and I guarantee you when it comes time to buiild an NFL class stadium... the folks (taxpayers) up there will not be held hostage and accept footing the bill forthat like us kitty ass americanos do.

When I asked a psychic in 1992 whether we'd ever win a superbowl, she said 'no'........ She then proceeded to predict that the Bills would one day play at least half their games in Toronto and would be called the Toronto/Buffalo Bills. She said what she actually "saw in her head" was the standings in the paper where it was listed as Tor/Buf.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger.

I would think that the Canadian Football League would have something to say about this...

Where do you put the Toronto Argonauts, who are the CFL's strongest team? They are supposed to be moving out of the Skydome/Rogers Centre in the next couple of years, but the CFL needs a Toronto team. The CFL is much stronger than it has been in recent years (the strong Canadian dollar probably has something to do with this), but if Tags tries to put an NFL team in Toronto, expect a nasty court fight.
