What OBD Defenders Can Learn from Sanders Acquisition

Recommended Posts

They re-signed Kyle Williams, Aaron Williams, and Leodis McKelvin, all of which are major contributors to their defense.

They also brought in Boobie and Bryce when Fred is getting older CJ is in a contract year and not living up to expectation. They are both going to be significant contributors.

Or how about the Hughes trade? Saw a player not producing, identified a better fit, and made the trade.

The FO has totally mismanaged the o-line and QB situations, but done very, very well in other areas. Let's not forget that. Sheesh.

While the premise is correct that a UFA is probably not going to be worth what they get on the open market, the Broncos are in a far better situation to sign a suitable replacement than the Bills. The Bills mistake has not been deciding that a player isn't worth the $ it will take to resign them, a la Jairus Byrd. It has been using an inferior player that they already have in the fold or a low round draft pick as a replacement. yes they are at a disadvantage luring UFA's and willbe until they win and / or have a good QB. Winning begets winning. It just means the FO has to be better at heir jobs than most. Not sure they can learn anything from the Sanders signing except what most already thought. A. Decker falls into the category ( as do many) of " made by Peyton Manning" and B. it's easier to sign talented FA's when you have Manning as your QB.

This is EXACTLY wrong and completely misses the point.

The Broncos did not decide "hey, we have Manning. We can let Decker walk and just elevate some scrub." They decided Decker was not worth $37M/5 and SIGNED SOMEONE ELSE.

The Bills are really great at not re-signing their players. They are not very good at going out and finding replacements at more affordable salaries.

Just take a deep breath Gabe, as some just won't ever get the point. That the Bills let Levitre go, and then tried to replace him with utter garbage for two years now!. Here it will be going on 3 off seasons later, and we still don't know if this regime would ever replace him properly.

Just look at the talent the Bills have used top draft picks on only to let them leave for one reason or another or traded them away. for Byrd, Levitre, Poz, Whitner, Lynch, and over the years it goes even further in Pat Williams, Nate Clements, Antoine Winfield. The idea that the Bills tried to trade up in the 2nd round Carlos Hyde tells me that Spiller was a gonner if they make that move. Who cares how or why they left, it just diminishes the team when you let a player go and don't immediately replace them with equal talent. Jason Peters is another example, as the team pulls off a miracle to find an all pro LT out of a free agent TE. Then trades him away, and then takes years to replace him with viable talent.

That's the bad news. That storied history could very be on the verge of being just that, history! A complete reversal with new ownership that doesn't need the team to make a profit is on the horizon for next year, and the years of incompetence in so many aspects should be changing. Imagine if you will, an historically bad team like Buffalo turning into playoff team like the Broncos.

It all starts at the top! This is an exciting time to be a Buffalo Bills fan.
